    Abstract Jian-Ti-Kang-Yi decoction (JTKY) is widely used in the treatment of COVID-19. However, the protective mechanisms of JTKY against pneumonia remain unknown. In this study, polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)), a mimic of viral dsRNA, was used to induce pneumonia in mice; the therapeutic effects of JTKY on poly(I:C)-induced pneumonia model mice were evaluated. In addition, the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative potentials of JTKY were also investigated. Lastly, the metabolic regulatory effects of JTKY in poly(I:C)-induced pneumonia model mice were studied using untargeted metabolomics. Our results showed that JTKY treatment decreased the wet-to-dry ratio in the lung tissue, total protein concentration, and total cell count of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) and Masson staining indicated that the JTKY treatment alleviated the pathological changes and decreased the fibrotic contents in the lungs. JTKY treatment also decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)] and increased the levels of immunomodulatory cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10) in the BALF and serum.     Abstract The rice flower carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Quanzhounensis) is a bony fish (superclass Osteichthyes), with very soft bones that is a significant feature unlike the other carp species. In this study, we analyzed the mRNA and microRNA (miRNA) transcriptomes in the intermuscular bones of rice flower carp and Jian carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian) (a typical member of common carp in China), using Illumina RNA sequencing. We identified 55,340 genes (including 47,541 known genes and 8231 predicted new genes) and 662 miRNAs (including 595 known miRNAs and 67 novel miRNAs) in the two species. By comparing the transcriptomes of the two species, we identified 1523 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (including 576 up - and 947 downregulated DEGs) and 352 differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) (including 85 up- and 267 downregulated DEMs). According to the Gene Ontology (GO) annotation, 7 DEGs and 12 DEMs were found to be involved in the regulation of bone mineralization. The results of this study improve our understanding of the mRNA and miRNA profiles of carp bones, particularly those of the rice flower carp.

    Abstract 【Objective】The study was carried out to screen new varieties (lines) of flue-cured tobacco with high quality adapted to ecological conditions in Ji'an tobacco production area.【Method】Five flue-cured tobacco varieties (lines) including CC400, PVH2233, PVH2343, 1604 and Xiangyan 7 were introduced from the imported varieties and domestic self-bred varieties, and the main conventional varieties Yunyan 87 and K326 were used as control varieties. A community comparative trial was conducted for two consecutive years from 2019 to 2020. The growth period, agronomic traits, disease resistance, economic characters, appearance quality, chemical composition and sensory quality of each variety (line) were analyzed.【Result】The Xiangyan 7, which showed a good balance between quality and benefit, had better color and oil content. The output and yield of Xiangyan 7 were higher than those of Yunyan 87 by 305.85 kg/hm2 and 4 837.95 Yuan/hm2 respectively. The sensory quality was obviously better than the main variety Yunyan 87. However, attention should be paid to the prevention and control of common mosaic disease in field at early stage. The PVH2233 with good interannual stability and medium sensory quality had 3-4 pieces of leaves more than the control, and the vigorous growing period was 5-7 days longer than that of the control. It was necessary to strengthen the researches on supporting cultivation techniques. The 1604 had the advantages of early growth and rapid development, largest pitch and lumbar leaf area, better appearance quality and economic character, and better sensory quality than Yunyan 87. The CC400 was similar to K326 in field growth and had better leaf opening, but the occurrence of bacterial wilt was relatively severe and the economic character was not prominent. The PVH2343 had thicker leaves, but the incidence of climatic spot disease was more severe, and the sensory quality was slightly poor.【Conclusion】The comprehensive performance of Xiangyan 7, PVH2233 and 1604 was better, which could be further verified ...

    Abstract In order to evaluate the protect effects of γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) on the growth, serum biochemical indexes, immune‐related signalling molecules of Jian carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian), fish were randomly divided into 6 groups, which fed six diets with different GABA levels (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 mg/kg) for 8 weeks, respectively. The results indicated the following: body weight gain, specific growth rate, feed intake, feed efficiency ratio and protein efficiency ratio were significantly improved by dietary GABA supplementation, the levels of total protein, albumin, glucose and the activity of superoxide dismutase in serum responded same trend; whereas, the activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and malondialdehyde contents were opposite. Moreover, the activities of lysozyme and alkaline phosphatase and the content of nitric oxide in head kidney and spleen showed significantly increased under GABA pre‐supplementation. Furthermore, GABA pre‐supplementation had significantly higher expressions of interleukin‐2, interleukin 10, interferon γ and lower expressions of nuclear factor‐kappa B, interleukin‐1β, tumour necrosis factor α in head kidney and spleen when compared to the control group. These results indicated that GABA pre‐supplementation improved the growth in Jian carp, which could be related to the activation of serum biochemical indexes and immune‐related signalling molecules, showing the potential of GABA as a novel feed additive to prevent stress. The recommendation dietary GABA level for Jian carp, estimated by quadratic regression analysis based on BWG and FER, was 99.01 mg/kg and 96.75 mg/kg, respectively.

    Abstract The study was to explore the effect of the extracts of Angelica sinensis (EAs) on lipid oxidation in fish feeds compared with ethoxyquin (EQ) and the effect of dietary EAs on growth performance of carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian). Firstly, fish feeds were respectively added with EQ, and ethyl ether extract, ethyl acetate extract (EAE), acetone extract, ethanol extract (EE) and aqueous extract (AQE) of Angelica sinensis, except for the control. The results showed that EAs and EQ inhibited lipid oxidation in fish feeds (P < 0.05). Of all of the examined EAs, EAE showed the strongest protective effects against lipid oxidation (P < 0.05). Moreover, EAE at high concentrations showed a stronger effect on lipid oxidation compared with EQ (P < 0.05). Then, 7 experimental diets respectively supplemented with 0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 g/kg of EAE were fed to the respective treatment groups for 30 d. Four replicates were performed for each treatment group; 20 carp (mean weight: 12.10 ± 0.13 g) were in each replicate. The results indicated that dietary EAE improved the growth performance in carp (P < 0.05). The appropriate concentration of EAE for carp growth was estimated to be 3.643 g/kg diet. Thus, EAE could be used as a natural antioxidant in feeds for Jian carp.

    Abstract A total of 80 cases of advanced schistosomiasis were selected and divided into an experiment group and a control group, 40 cases each group, by the random sampling method. The patients in the experiment group were administered with Jian-gan-le, and the patients in the control group received compound purple granules. In the experiment group, the curative rate was 25.0%, the improving rate was 70.0%, the inefficacy rate was 5%, and the efficiency rate was 95.0%. In the control group, the curative rate was 12.5%, the improving rate was 75%, the inefficacy rate was 12.5%. There was no statistic difference between the 2 groups (P all > 0.05). The expense was cheaper in the experiment group than in the control group.

    Abstract Introduction: Visceral pain is one of the most important pains caused by cancer or other diseases, and most of the medications may lead to tolerance, addiction, and toxic side effects. Hua-Jian-Ba-Du Ointment (HJBDO), which is a commonly used conjugate based on traditional Chinese medicine theory, has been effective against visceral pain. Here, we verify the efficacy and underlying mechanism of HJBDO in an acetic-acid induced visceral pain model.
    Methods: Mice were subjected to acetic acid with or without HJBDO. Hua-Jian-Ba-Du Ointment at low (7.5 mL/kg•d), moderate (15 mL/kg•d), and high (30 mL/kg•d) dosages was applied on the abdomen, 3 times per day for 3 days. The acetic acid writhing test was used to evaluate antinociception. Interleukin-2 (IL-2) in serum, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in peritoneal fluid were detected by ELISA. 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), and β-endorphin (β-EP) were examined by high performance liquid chromatography and radioimmunoassay, respectively. N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor (NMDAR1) and c-fos expressions in both rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM) and spinal dorsal horn were determined by western blot.
    Results: Hua-Jian-Ba-Du Ointment at 3 dosage levels produced dose-dependent antinociception and shortened the latent time. Hua-Jian-Ba-Du Ointment at high or moderate dosage inhibited the release of TNF-α, IL-6, and PGE2, as well as increased the release of IL-2. Hua-Jian-Ba-Du Ointment could also increase NE and 5-HT contents and decrease the NE content. No effect of HJBDO at 3 dosages on the DA system was detected. Furthermore, HJBDO could suppress the expressions of NMDAR and c-fos in both RVM and spinal dorsal horn.
    Conclusion: Our results exhibited the analgesic effect of HJBDO on visceral pain in mice, and this effect might be mediated by the regulation of inflammation and neurotransmitters.
