Abstract We aimed to examine the potential effect of sex on the longitudinal association of baseline serum uric acid levels with brain amyloid accumulation over time among older adults with and without abnormal amyloid. At baseline, the study sample comprised 499 older adults, including 276 men and 223 women. Linear mixed-effects regression models were fitted to estimate the individual slopes of change in brain amyloid accumulation [as measured by AV45 standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR)] over time. At baseline, we did not observe a relationship between serum uric acid levels and brain amyloid deposition in women or men regardless of amyloid status. Among amyloid negative subjects, women and men did not differ in the relationship between baseline serum uric acid and the annual change in amyloid accumulation in subjects with normal amyloid levels. In amyloid positive women, serum uric acid levels were not associated with the annual change in amyloid accumulation (unstandardized β = 0.0005, SE = 0.0006, p value = 0.4179). However, in amyloid positive men, serum uric acid levels were negatively associated with the annual change in amyloid accumulation (unstandardized β = -0.0015, SE = 0.0005, p value = 0.0048). These findings support a potential sex-specific effect on the relationship between serum uric acid levels and amyloid accumulation among amyloid positive older adults.

Abstract Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most common neuropathy in the world, mainly manifested as bilateral symmetry numbness, pain or paresthesia, with a high rate of disability and mortality. Schwann cells (SCs), derived from neural ridge cells, are the largest number of glial cells in the peripheral nervous system, and play an important role in DPN. Studies have found that SCs are closely related to the pathogenesis of DPN, such as oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation, impaired neurotrophic support and dyslipidemia. This article reviews the mechanism of SCs in DPN.

Abstract The microbial community structure plays an important role in the internal environment of brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Hemiptera: Delphacidae), which is an indispensable part to reflect the internal environment of BPH. Wing dimorphism is a strategy for balancing flight and reproduction of insects. Here, quantitative fluorescence PCR was used to analyse the number and changes of the symbionts in the fat body of long- and short-winged BPHs at different developmental stages. A metagenomic library was constructed based on the 16 S rRNA sequence and internal transcribed spacer sequence for high-throughput sequencing, to analyze the community structure and population number of the symbionts of long- and short-winged BPHs, and to make functional prediction. This study enriches the connotation of BPH symbionts, and laid a theoretical foundation for the subsequent study of BPH-symbionts interaction and the function of symbionts in the host.

Abstract A total of 66 sets of pullout specimens were prepared to investigate the bonding properties of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer reinforcement (hereinafter referred to as BFRP) with seawater sand concrete (hereinafter referred to as SSC). The volume dosages of mono-doped glass fibers and mono-doped polypropylene fibers were 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%; the total volume dosage was set to be constant at 0.3%; and the doping ratios of the hybrid fibers were 1:2, 1:1, and 2:1. The effect on the bonding performance of BFRP reinforcement with SSC was studied on the condition of the diameter D of the BFRP reinforcement being 12 mm; the bond length of SSC being 3D, 5D, and 7D; and the surface characteristics of the reinforcement being sandblasted and threaded. The research showed that due to internal cracks in the matrix, salt crystals in the pores, chloride salts with high brittleness and expansion, as well as sulfate corrosion products such as "Frederick salts" in SSC, the concrete became brittle, resulting in more brittle splitting failures during the pullout test. Doped fibers can increase the ductility effect of concrete, but the bonding effect between the threaded fiber reinforcement and the SSC was not as good as that of the sandblasting group. When the bond length was 5D, the bonding effect between the BFRP reinforcement and SSC was the best, and the bonding performance of the experimental group with doped fibers was better than that of the threaded group. Finally, by combining the ascending segment of the Malvar model with the descending segment of the improved BPE model, a constitutive relationship model suitable for the bond-slip curve between BFRP reinforcement and SSC was fitted, which laid a theoretical foundation for future research on SSC.

Abstract Ferroptosis is intimately correlated with the development of cancers. We aimed to identify ferroptosis-related prognostic signatures for prognosis prediction of prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD). The expression profile and clinical data of patients were from The Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) database. The Cox regression and Lasso analyses were utilized to construct a multigene signature, and the Kaplan-Meier (K-M), receiver operating characteristic (ROC), and decision curve analysis (DCA) curves were used to validate the predictive effect. Additionally, pathway enrichment analyses were performed to explore the potential mechanism associated with biomarkers. In this study, 41 ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) were differentially expressed between PRAD and normal tissues. Then, we finally constructed a risk model consisting of 6 signatures (Transferrin Receptor (TFRC), Ferritin Heavy Chain 1 (FTH1), Poly (RC) Binding Protein 2 (PCBP2), Acyl-CoA Synthetase Long Chain Family Member 3 (ACSL3), Prion Protein (PRNP), and Lysophosphatidylcholine Acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3)) among 41 biomarkers. The K-M, ROC, and DCA curves all validated the fine predictive performance of our prognostic signature. We also revealed the significant clinical value of each signature in PRAD. The enrichment analysis suggested the correlation of these genes with the calcium signaling pathway, Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 (TGF-β), and Wingless-Type MMTV Integration Site Family (WNT) pathways, implying that these genes might be involved in the migration of PRAD. In conclusion, the 6-gene ferroptosis-related signature could serve as a novel biomarker for predicting the prognosis in PRAD. Their function in cancer migration needs further investigation.

Abstract The precision of optical positioning system is one of the most important factors which affects the precision of navigation guided surgery. In this study, an efficient and low-cost tool and its algorithm were proposed to evaluate the accuracy of optical positioning system based on the ablation scenario of liver cancer, and two validation experiments were designed. Experimental results show that the tool and its algorithm can evaluate the accuracy of the current positioning system accurately and efficiently.
