Abstract Background: The etiologies of kidney disease are sequential and interlinked. They are known as disease markers. The Decision Tree representing initial symptoms needs to be popularized to seek prophylactic measures and educate the community health workers. Material and Methods: Chronic Kidney Disease dataset containing two classes, namely CKD and not CKD was retrieved from UC Irvine Machine Learning Repository available from https://archive.ics.uci.edu/ml/index.php. This dataset includes 400 instances and 25 attributes related to the CKD. The CKD dataset was saved in ARFF format. J48 algorithm was chosen from the WEKA software tool to develop the Decision Tree. Results: The Decision Tree comprises root nodes, branches, internal nodes, and leaf nodes. The root node began in J48 classifier with ‘sc’ (serum creatinine). This node gave two branches, of which one branch led to the internal node ‘pe’ (pedal edema) (sc<=1.2), and the other (sc>1.2) ended with a leaf node showing the condition CKD. The internal node ‘pe’ further yielded two branches, the branch with pedal edema terminated with CKD and the branch with no pedal edema led to the internal node. Internal node with ‘dm’ (diabetes mellitus) showed two more branches namely ‘yes’, which lead to CKD, and branch ‘no’ ‘dm’ led to another internal node namely hemo (haemoglobin). In continuation, the nodes for yet another two disease markers, namely hemoglobin and specific gravity of serum of people prone to kidney diseases, were shown at the terminal end of the Decision Tree. Conclusion: The Decision Tree developed for the CKD dataset by using J48 classifier would guide prospective patients with their clinical data reports.

Abstract The mammalian conceptus is a semi-allograft. The maternal tolerance towards semi-allograft is primed by a battery of cytokines and resident decidual cells. Invasion of embryonic trophoblast, decidual vascular remodeling and unresponsive incipient 'Triple-negative' (CD3-, CD4- and CD8-) T-cells of foetus promote normal pregnancy. On the other hand, the maternal cytokine profile shift towards Th1 response is shown to enhance the risk during pregnancy. The periodical examination of maternal serum levels of Th1 and Th2 response mediated cytokines constitutes prognostic biomarkers to initiate therapeutic regimens.

Abstract We report the synthesis of Cu(2)SnS(3) nanostructures using solvothermal technique and the study of its visible and infrared (IR) photoresponse under different illumination intensities. The CTS nano-crystals were found to have tetragonal crystal structure using X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Both flower and sphere shaped structures of around 1.5 μm were obtained as seen using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to study the crystalline nature as well as the different planes present in the crystal. The band gap of the obtained crystals was found to be 1.4 eV using optical studies. The visible photocurrent increased from 0.25 μA at dark to 0.42 μA at 1.05 suns and 1 V applied bias. The sensitivity increased from 1.25 at 0.88 suns to 1.68 at 1.05 suns. The IR photocurrent increased from 0.13 μA at dark to 0.66 μA at 477.7 mWcm(−2). The device exhibited an increase in the sensitivity, responsivity, external quantum efficiency and specific detectivity from 1.23, 0.10 mA/W, 0.016% and 5.02 × 10(8) Jones respectively at 127.4 mWcm(−2 ) to 4.95, 0.46 mA/W, 0.071% and 2.22×10(9) Jones respectively at 477.7 mWcm(−2). The time response of the photocurrent was measured over different ON-OFF cycles and the cyclic stability of the device was verified.

Abstract Recently, extensive attention has been given to developing an active and durable metal-free economical sensor and catalyst. Graphene oxide (GO)-based sensors and catalysts have been considered as a promising candidate in current material science research. However, the sensing and catalytic properties of GO also need to be further improved to satisfy the specific applications, such as gas detection in harsh environments, medical diagnosis based on human breath, blood glucose detection, catalytic activity, and so forth. Therefore, the effect of nitrogen in GO on the performance of glucose and ammonia sensing, and catalytic activity has been investigated. Herein, we propose a practical, high-sensitive sensor and catalyst based on high-quality defect N-enriched GO. One-step, low-cost solvothermal synthesis of N-enriched GO has been exploited for the development of high-performance sensors and excellent catalyst at room temperature. The resultant N-enriched GO (N8GO) has been studied as a promising sensing material for ammonia, glucose, and para-nitrophenol (PNP) reduction. The prevalent outstanding sensing and catalytic performance may be due to the synergistic effect of nitrogen. A probable mechanism for sensing and catalytic reduction of PNP using N8GO has been proposed.

Abstract Uricase is a diagnostic and therapeutic enzyme used to detect the levels of purine end product namely uric acid in the biological samples and it also promotes the conversion of uric acid to a soluble allantoin. In this study, a potential extracellular uricase-producing Escherichia sp. was isolated from canal water near dairy and molecular characterization using16 S rRNA sequence was performed and the data showed 98.95% similarity with Escherichia marmotae. Morphological and biochemical characteristics of the isolated bacterium were determined. The effect of medium components on uricase production was studied and optimized medium enhanced the uricase production to 27.47 U/ml ± 0.44 which is 1.37 fold greater than initial uricase production. The enzyme was purified using ammonium sulphate precipitation followed by ion exchange chromatography and the resulted enzyme is stable over wide pH range from 6.0 to 9.0 and temperatures ranging from 30 °C to 37 °C retaining more than 94% activity. The enzyme activity and specific activity of the purified enzyme were 40.02 U/mL and 87.76 U/mg respectively with an overall purification fold of 4.04 and the yield obtained is 14.57%.

Abstract We, herein, report an eco-friendly low temperature route for the gram-scale synthesis of copper indium selenide nanoparticles. We have also shown the possibility of using CuInSe₂ nanoparticles in infrared photodetection by maneuvering the photoconductive property. We rationalize the long-lived trap states to be the cause for the observed photoconductive gain. It is worth noting that the photoresponse time of the device was found to be faster than 0.1 s.
