Abstract | Respiratory distress syndrome is the most significant cause of respiratory distress in premature infants, and its treatment with exogenous surfactant has reshaped infant care, providing a longer life expectancy for early-born neonates. In addition, with the higher survival rate of extremely premature infants, more cases of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and prolonged mechanical ventilation are being observed. In recent years, it has been reported that favoring non-invasive methods of ventilation along with minimally invasive methods of surfactant administration has positive effects against the development of BPD and other premature morbidities. In this article, we aim to discuss several subjects regarding the use of minimally invasive surfactant. |
