Abstract Ta₂O₅ layer was prepared onto SBA-15 (Ta₂O₅/SBA-5) with Ta ethoxide precursor. The surface properties of Ta₂O₅/SBA-5 was the same as those of mesoporous Ta₂O₅, possessing electron accepting sites and hydrophobicity, but the structural stability upon thermal treatment was improved due to the presence of SBA-5. The drastic blue shift in UV–vis absorption band was observed when the phase of Ta₂O₅ became thinner. Accordingly, band gaps of Ta₂O₅ samples increased from 4.0 (nonporous Ta₂O₅) to 4.3eV (mesoporous Ta₂O₅, 2.3nm wall thickness), and further increased to 4.9eV for thin-layered Ta₂O₅/SBA-5 (0.5nm Ta₂O₅ layer). Thus, stable activity for photocatalytic water decomposition was not observed over thin-layered Ta₂O₅/SBA-5.

Abstract In this paper, a response time of the surface plasmon resonance fiber optic hydrogen sensor has successfully improved with keeping sensor sensitivity high by means of hydrogen curing (immersing) process of annealed Au/Ta2O5/ Pd multi-layers film. The hydrogen curing effect on the response time and sensitivity has been experimentally revealed by changing the annealing temperatures of 400, 600, 800°C and through observing the optical loss change in the H2 curing process. When the 25-nm Au/60-nm Ta2O5/10-nm Pd multi-layers film annealed at 600°C is cured with 4% H2/N2 mixture, it is found that a lot of nano-sized cracks were produced on the Pd surface. After H2 curing process, the response time is improved to be 8 s, which is two times faster than previous reported one in the case of the 25-nm Au/60-nm Ta2O5/3-nm Pd multi-layers film with keeping the sensor sensitivity of 0.27 dB for 4% hydrogen adding. Discussions most likely responsible for this effect are given by introducing the α-β transition Pd structure in the H2 curing process.

Abstract A novel fiber optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) hydrogen sensor has been developed based on hetero-core structured fiber optics with multi-layer films of gold (Au), tantalum pentaoxide (Ta₂O₅) and palladium (Pd) uniformly coated onto a cylindrical cladding surface. We experimentally observed that the SPR resonant wavelength is shifted 28nm with 4%-hydrogen concentration in nitrogen. In a light intensity-based experiment with an LED operating at 850nm, it has been presented that a transmitted loss change of 0.23dB was induced with a response time of 15s for 4% hydrogen in the case of 25-nm Au, 60-nm Ta₂O₅ and 3-nm Pd multi-layer film. The proposed sensor has successfully detected hydrogen concentrations with a high sensitivity despite the usage of very thin Pd films.

Abstract Introduction: A complete disruption of main pancreatic duct (MPD) presents a significant challenge to the surgeon. Historically, the standard surgical approach for addressing a complete disruption of the MPD involved distal pancreatic resection and pancreaticojejunostomy Roux-en-Y anastomosis. Nevertheless, there have been no reported cases of hybrid surgery being employed for the complete disruption of the MPD.
Patient concerns: A 63-year-old male patient presented with blunt trauma in the upper abdomen and was transferred to our trauma center 10 hours after injury. Upon arrival at the emergency department, he was conscious, hemodynamically stable, and complained of upper abdominal pain and distention. Physical examination revealed right upper abdominal tenderness and slight abdominal tension. Abdominal contrast-enhanced CT scan revealed a complete transection of pancreatic parenchyma at the junction of the head and neck.
Diagnoses: Complete transection of pancreatic parenchyma at the junction of the head and neck combined with complete disruption of the MPD, AIS grade IV.
Interventions: The hybrid surgery was initially utilized for complete MPD disruption, incorporating endoscope-assisted stent placement in the MPD along with primary repair of the pancreatic parenchyma and duct.
Outcomes: The postoperative period went smoothly, and the patient recovered and was discharged 4 weeks after operation. The MPD stent was removed under endoscope 4 months after operation, and Endoscopic Retrograde Pancreatography examination showed that the MPD was patency and slight MPD stenosis without pancreatic leakage. At the most recent follow-up, the patient had returned to normal life and work without any pancreatic endocrine or exocrine dysfunction.
Lessons: The hybrid surgery, incorporating endoscope-assisted MPD stent placement and primary repair of the pancreatic parenchyma and duct, emerges as a promising alternative for complete MPD disruption in hemodynamically stable patients. The challenge in this hybrid surgery is the precise localization of the distal end of the MPD.

Abstract Gartanin, a compound found in mangosteen, has various pharmacological activities, including anticancer, anti-inflammation, and antioxidation. In the present study, we reported differences of gartanin metabolism among species and the effect of gartanin on cytochrome P450 (CYP) activities and protein expression. We found significant difference in gartanin metabolism among species, where rabbits and humans had similar metabolic characteristics. Five CYP-catalysed metabolites and three glucuronosyltransferase (UGT)-catalysed metabolites were identified by LC-MS/MS. Hydroxylation was the major metabolic pathway. Gartanin exhibited mixed inhibition on CYP1A2 activity with IC

Abstract Clinical outcomes remain unsatisfactory in patients with pancreatic cancer (PAC). In this study, through single-cell sequencing, we identified eight cell subpopulations in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Redimensional clustering of epithelial cells, myeloid cells, and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) revealed heterogeneity in the TME of PAC. Intercellular communication analysis showed strong direct interactions between matrix CAFs, inflammatory CAFs, and epithelial cells. Additionally, we found that the SPP1-associated pathway was activated in monocytes, whereas the vascular endothelial growth factor-associated pathway was activated in epithelial cells. These results improve the understanding of the TME of pancreatic cancer and provide a foundation for further studies on intratumoral heterogeneity. In addition, differentially expressed gene secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) was identified in pancreatic cancer, and functional experiments showed that SLPI had a strong impact on cell viability and apoptosis, which offers a potential therapy target for pancreatic cancer.
