Abstract Objective: To investigate the correlation between student attendance and academic performance in undergraduate medical education, with a focus on exploring potential similarities or differences in correlation patterns between pre-clinical and clinical years. Study Design:Retrospective cross-sectional, correlational study. Place and Duration of Study: Saidu Medical College Swat Pakistan from 1 March 2018 to 26 November 2020. Materials and Methods: A total of 450 students from preclinical and clinical years were studied. Student attendance and marks obtained during their annual exams were converted to percentage values. To measure the strength of correlation, the Pearson Correlation coefficient was calculated using SPSS version 25. Initially, the correlation coefficient of Pre-clinical and Clinical students was calculated independently, the results were then compared against each other to understand the difference between the two cohorts. Scatter plots and regression analysis were calculated to depict the relation between variables. A p-value < 0.05 was deemed statistically significant. Result: A statistically significant positive correlation between class attendance and academic performance of pre-clinical students was found (r = 0.227, p < 0.001). The mean attendance of Pre-Clinical Students was (86.4) with a standard deviation of SD ± 5.638. Analysis of clinical students revealed a very weak negative but statistically insignificant correlation, (r = -0.037, p < 0.73). Mean attendance was measured to be (83.1) with a standard deviation of SD ± 5.83. Conclusion: This study points to a previously unexplored dissimilarity in the correlation between lecture attendance and academic performance among clinical year as compared with pre-clinical year students, underscoring the dynamic nature of the relationship between attendance and academic performance throughout different phases of medical education. Further research exploring the factors influencing academic performance in clinical years is required to ...

Abstract Background: Diabetes mellitus is a devastating disease worldwide, and its impact on human life is alarming. Medication noncompliance is a major cause leading to serious complications and a high burden on the entire healthcare system. Objective: To assess the non-compliance of Medicine and its associated factors in type-II Diabetes mellitus. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted between February 2019 and August 2019 among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Endocrinology OPD of Dow Hospital Karachi. The Moriskey Medication Adherence Questionnaire-8 was used to assess non-compliance. A non-probability purposive technique was used for data collection, and all patients diagnosed with type II diabetes mellitus were included in this study. Results: 196 participants took part in the study. Most of the participants were male (57.7%), married (85.2%), and over 50 years old (39.3%). The study found that 11.2% of participants had high compliance with medication, while 19.9% had medium adherence and 68.9% had low compliance. In univariate analysis, younger age, presence of comorbid, and prescription of tablets were associated with a lower risk of low/moderate non-compliance. On multivariable analysis, having comorbidity and advice of tablets were found to be associated with lower odds of low to moderate levels of non-adherence. Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the need to identify the value of measuring patient compliance to treatment plans related to diabetes for the maintenance and co-management of this disease.

Abstract In the present investigation, two fungal strains were exploited to evaluate their degradation capability on Synozol Red, Yellow, and Navy-Blue dyes which gave the utmost decolorization such as 40%, 70%, 90% by Aspergillus niger, and 36%, 73%, 87% by Trichoderma viride, respectively for 60 days. The Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of the decolorized dyes suggested that various compounds such as Caprolactam, Furazan-3-carboxamide, oxime, 4-amino-N, N-dimethyl, 6H-Pyrazolo[1,2-a] [1,2,4,5]tetrazine, Hexahydro-2,3-dimethyl, Benzene, 1-propenyl, Dihydroxymaleic acid, Arsenous acid, tris(trimethylsilyl) ester were produced by the fungi which helped in the removal of dyes from the wastewater. The laccase activity of the degraded dyes was proof that both of the strains positively produced the enzyme that helped in the biodegradation of carcinogenic dyes into less harmful products. The A. niger extracted laccase relative activity was 262%, 265%, and 145.7% for Synozol Yellow, Synozol Red, and Navy Blue, respectively. Similarly, laccase, obtained from T. viride, showed relative activity of 187.5% against Synozol Yellow, 215% against Synozol Red, and 202% against Navy Blue. Furthermore, the supernatant extracted from fungi-decolorized wastewater was used to check phytotoxicity on Vigna radiata, which gave excellent results. Both fungal strains, on the basis of their dye degradation potential, can be used to ameliorate wastewater contaminated with azo dyes.

Abstract Presently, environmental degradation is the prime concern of the world economies as a whole. Following this concern, Sustainable Development Goals designed by the UNDP raise the slogan “Clear Environment for All”. This paper has analyzed the impact of business freedom on environmental degradation in the case of 110 developing countries from 2000 to 2020. Panel least squares and generalized moments methods have been applied to check the impact of explanatory variables on dependent variables. The results show that business freedom and renewable energy consumption have a negative and significant impact on environmental degradation in selected developing countries. The results explain that financial development has a positive and significant impact on environmental degradation in developing countries. Whereas urbanization has a positive and significant impact on environmental degradation. Thus, for the reduction of environmental degradation business freedom and renewable energy consumption should be promoted, whereas negative linkages of urbanization and financial development should be reduced.

Abstract Minimizing the level of economic misery is one of the prime objectives of all economies for the last couple of decades. It is not individuals who can themselves control it, some public policy options provide roots to minimize economic misery. This article has examined the role of public policy in determining the level of economic misery among developed and developing countries from 1987 to 2019. The empirical findings of the article show level of domestic investment, foreign debt, and government revenue are discouraging economic misery among developing countries. Whereas economic development and the level of the population are encouraging economic misery among developing countries. The level of domestic investment is promoting economic misery in developed countries, but government revenue and economic development are reducing economic misery among developed countries. In the case of the whole sample analysis, the level of domestic investment and government revenues decreases the level of economic misery, but the level of population, foreign debt, and economic development depresses the economic misery. Thus, it is concluded that public policy plays important role in determining economic misery both in developed and developing countries. Developing countries should raise the level of domestic investment and government revenue to depress economic misery. Developed countries should raise government revenue and economic development to depress economic misery. So, for the reduction of economic misery in developed and developing countries, public policy must be strengthened.
