Abstract To investigate the computed tomography (CT) image characteristics, adjacent tissues, and related measurement indices of the sternal foramina and provide an anatomical basis for the safety of minimally invasive sternum surgery. The data from 2500 thoracic multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) cases from January 2020 to June 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. The number and location of the sternal foramina and adjacent tissues (mediastinal adipose tissue, lung, pericardium) were observed. The size of the sternal foramina, CT value of the tissue inside the foramina, subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness, distance from skin to lung, distance from skin to the pericardium, and manubrio-foraminal distance were measured. Sex differences were compared for each indicator performed. The incidence of sternal foramina was 4.44% (111/2500), with 83 males and 28 females. All sternal foramina were located at the mesosternum's fourth to sixth costal cartilage level. The transverse diameter of the sternal foramina was (0.60 ± 0.29) cm, and the vertical diameter was (0.68 ± 0.39) cm, which was greater in males than females (p > 0.01). The CT value of the tissue in the sternal foramina was (-77.05 ± 32.26) Hu, and there was no statistical difference between male and female patients (t = -1.780, p = 0.078). The adjacent tissues of the sternal foramina were only adjacent to adipose tissue in 41 cases (36.94%), pericardium in 18 patients (16.22%), lung tissue in 37 cases (33.33%), and both kinds of tissue in 15 cases (13.51%). The sternal foramina were not adjacent to the left lung in the female patients. In the sternal foramina region, the thickness of subcutaneous adipose tissue was (1.13 ± 0.51) cm, the distance from skin to lung was (1.86 ± 0.57) cm, the distance from skin to pericardium was (3.07 ± 0.72) cm, the manubrio-foraminal distance was (12.68 ± 1.31) cm, which was significantly greater in males than in females (p < 0.05). The sternal foramina are closely related to the heart and lungs. The size and location of sternal foramina, the thickness of subcutaneous adipose tissue, and the distance from skin to heart and lung are all crucial factors in evaluating the safety of sternal puncture biopsy.

Abstract China's Yellow River, the nation's second-longest, grapples with severe water scarcity, impeding the high-quality development of its basin. Our study meticulously examines the intricate virtual water trade network inside and outside the basin, providing essential insights to combat its acute water scarcity. We calculated water consumption coefficients for seven pivotal sectors across diverse Chinese provinces, forming the foundational data for quantifying virtual water trade both inside and outside the basin. Utilizing the 2015 Multi-Regional Input-Output Table, we assessed the Yellow River Basin's reliance on external water resources. Despite enduring chronic water scarcity, the basin annually exports a substantial 27.2 billion m

Abstract Background: The most common tubal disease leading to infertility occurs in the distal region, manifesting as hydrosalpinx. Tubal surgery is an effective alternative treatment. However, subpopulations that benefit the most from tubal repair surgery remain unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the natural pregnancy outcomes of patients with hydrosalpinx after reproductive surgery and those with different grades of hydrosalpinx.
Methods: We searched the major online databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Clinical Trials) to collect observational studies on patients with hydrosalpinx who underwent surgeries to preserve natural fertility from January 2000 to August 2022. The outcome indicators were natural intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) and ectopic pregnancy (EP) rates. Studies on patients with hydrosalpinx who underwent laparoscopic surgeries and those who intended to be conceived naturally were included. Studies on patients with non-hydrosalpinx diseases, those who underwent open surgery, and those who intended to undergo assisted conception were excluded. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale for observational studies was used for quality evaluation. Meta-analysis of a single rate was performed using RevMan5.3 software.
Results: A total of 10 articles were included in this study, including 1317 patients with hydrosalpinx. Seven studies were retrospective and 3 were prospective. It was found that after surgery for preserving natural fertility function, the IUP and EP rates of patients with hydrosalpinx were 27% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 22-32%) and 4.8% (95% CI: 2.91-8.26%), respectively. In addition, the IUP and EP rates in patients with mild (n = 254), moderate (n = 252), and severe (n = 473) hydrosalpinx were 50.5% (95% CI: 38.65-61.97%), 32.9% (95% CI: 21.88-46.24%), 10.7% (95% CI: 4.76-21.88%), and 7.4% (95% CI: 2.91-19.35%), 9.09% (95% CI: 6.54-13.79%), 8.3%, 8.26% (95% CI: 3.85-18.03%), respectively.
Conclusion: Patients with mild to moderate hydrosalpinx will benefit more from reproductive surgery to improve natural pregnancy outcomes. However, the small sample size in our study needs to be further expanded, and the grouping needs to be more refined, such as grouping based on age. This may provide more guidance in clinical practice.

Abstract Purposes: To investigate the effect and safety of ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for fertility preservation in female patients with hematological diseases.
Methods: We designed a retrospective study. The clinical data of patients with hematological diseases undergoing OTC admitted to Peking University People's Hospital from April 2017 to January 2023 were analyzed and summarized.
Results: A total of 24 patients were included in the study, including 19 patients with malignant hematological diseases and 5 patients with non-malignant hematological diseases. The former included 14 patients with acute leukemia, 1 patient with chronic leukemia, and 4 patients with myelodysplastic syndrome, while the latter 5 patients were aplastic anemia (AA). 16 patients had received chemotherapy before OTC. The average age of 24 patients was 22.80 ± 6.81 years. The average anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) was 1.97 ± 2.12 ng/mL, and the average follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) was 7.01 ± 4.24 IU/L in examination before OTC. FSH was greater than 10.0 IU/L in 4 cases. The pre-OTC laboratory tests showed that the average white blood cell (WBC) count was (3.33 ± 1.35) × 10
Conclusions: Ovarian tissue cryopreservation has a promising future in fertility protection in patients with hematological diseases. However, patients with hematological malignancies often have received gonadotoxic therapy before OTC, which may be accompanied by myelosuppression while patients with non-malignant hematological diseases often present with severe hemocytopenia. So perioperative complete blood count of patients should be paid attention to. There was no significant difference in the WBC count and hemoglobin concentration in patients with hematological diseases before and after OTC surgery, and the platelet count decreased slightly within the normal range. Infection is the most common post-OTC complication, and HSCT pretreatment can be accepted as early as the 10th day after OTC. OTC has no adverse effects on patients with hematological diseases and does not delay HSCT treatment. For young patients with hematological diseases, OTC is an effective method of fertility preservation.

Abstract The application of deep learning techniques to the detection and automated classification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has recently gained considerable attention. The rapid progress in neuroimaging and sequencing techniques has enabled the generation of large-scale imaging genetic data for AD research. In this study, we developed a deep learning approach, IGnet, for automated AD classification using both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and genetic sequencing data. The proposed approach integrates computer vision (CV) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques, with a deep three-dimensional convolutional network (3D CNN) being used to handle the three-dimensional MRI input and a Transformer encoder being used to manage the genetic sequence input. The proposed approach has been applied to the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) data set. Using baseline MRI scans and selected single-nucleotide polymorphisms on chromosome 19, it achieved a classification accuracy of 83.78% and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) of 0.924 with the test set. The results demonstrate the great potential of using multi-disciplinary AI approaches to integrate imaging genetic data for the automated classification of AD.
