    Abstract Objetivo: Describir la experiencia de traqueostomía percutánea por dilatación (TPD) sin fibrobroncospio en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) del Hospital Nacional Carlos Alberto Seguín Escobedo (EsSalud), Arequipa. Materiales y métodos: Estudio restrospectivo y descriptivo. Se recolectaron los registros de pacientes desde el 2011 hasta el 2014, a los que serealizó TPD sin fibrobroncoscopio. Se evaluaron variables demográficas, tiempo de realización de las TPD, diagnóstico de ingreso, comorbilidades asociadas, APACHE II, indicaciones de raqueostomía y complicaciones. Resultados: De las 94 TPD, el 48.9% fueron varones; la edad promedio fue 60,3 ± 19,7 años; el 35,1 % procedieron del servicio de emergencia; el score APACHE II fue de 18,1 ± 5,8 puntos. Se estimó un tiempo promedio de 14,6 ± 12,6 días para la realización de las traqueostomías. Al 97,9% se les realizó traqueostomía tardía. A 17 pacientes (18,1%) se les practicó una ecografía cervical; el 14,9 % tuvieron como diagnóstico de ingreso a la UCI TEC grave; la mayor indicación fue la falla neurológica con el 47,8%. Las complicaciones perioperatorias immediatas no mortales fueron: hemorragia leve, infección del estoma, hipotensión, enfisema subcutáneo y falsa vía. Se presentó una complicación mortal por hemorragia severa relacionada al procedimiento y la complicación tardía más frecuente fue estenosis subglótica. Finalmente, se halló una sobrevida global del 71,3%. Conclusiones: La TPD mediante la técnica Ciaglia Blue Rhino sin la asistencia de fibrobroncoscopio y a la cabecera del paciente sería un procedimiento seguro y con baja incidencia de complicaciones severas.

    Abstract El objetivo de esta investigación fue desarrollar un plan de acción para la integración del triángulo escolar a las actividades socio pedagógica y cultural de la U. E. E. Hilarión Alberto Viloria. Para lograr este objetivo se abordó la metodología propuesta por Pérez (2000), en sus cuatro fases: diagnóstico, planificación, ejecución y evaluación. Se concluyó que los docentes constituyen el elemento fundamental para realizar las transformaciones sociales en los cambios paradigmáticos de la educación donde se le brinde una serie de oportunidades para producir cambios y transformaciones no solo en estrategias organizativas, sino en valores inmersos en las prácticas pedagógicas. Con respecto a la planificación, tomando en cuenta los resultados arrojados en el diagnóstico, se hizo necesario planificar planes de acción fundamentados en la participación de los actores sociales. Se debe propiciar la inclusión de valores de sentido de pertenencia y sustentabilidad entre los miembros de la escuela y la comunidad, favoreciendo en los actores sociales un cambio de actitud que propicien culturas del buen ciudadano hacia los estilos de vida sustentables.

    Abstract An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of 199 9th grade students belonging to "Alberto Fernández Montes de Oca" Urban Basic Secondary School in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from September, 2013 to same period in 2014, aimed at applying dental aesthetics index in these students. For data gathering the oral dental health survey form designed by the World Health Organization was used which includes the 10 components of the above mentioned index. As summary measures the absolute numbers and percentages were used. The necessity of high-priority and compulsory treatment prevailed; also, dental crowding was the most significant component in dental aesthetics index.

    Abstract Objectives: We present a biographical sketch of Dr. Suarez de Mendoza, one of the first urologists trained as so in the Necker Hospital in Paris with Dr. Guyon, who opened the field to the creation of this speciality in Spain, and first official professor of the subject of in the Faculty of Medicine of Madrid.
    Methods: We reviewed his academic expedient in the National Historical Archive and search for data about his presence in Spain in the Faculty of Medicine and Medical College of Madrid. From the Royal Decrees we obtained information about the Free School of Medicine, and the creation of medical specialities in the University study plans; finally, we analyzed his written works.
    Results/conclusions: We consider Dr. Suarez de Mendoza one of the personalities giving entity to Urology in our country, for his education, for the amplitude of his knowledge, and for his wide experience, as professor of the subject in the Spanish University, as author of a great number of published works, and as inventor of his contributions to the development of anesthesia and urology. His treaty the first in Spanish covering in detail the innovations in urological examination methods, enables us to know and value the progressive advance and evolution of knowledge in urology.
