Abstract Kimchi is a traditional fermented food that contains abundant nutrients and functional ingredients with various health benefits. We previously reported that kimchi active components suppress hepatic steatosis caused by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, we assessed the effect of kimchi on the inhibition of hepatic steatosis caused by ER stress in HepG2 cells and C57BL/6N mice to verify the hypothesis that kimchi may potentially inhibit nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. We investigated the effect of kimchi on cell viability and triglyceride concentrations in cells and on lipid profile, lipid accumulation, and expression of related genes in cells and mice with hepatic steatosis. A mechanistic study was also performed using the liver X receptor α agonist T0901317 and the AMP-activated protein kinase agonist AICAR. Kimchi was noncytotoxic and effectively reduced triglyceride concentrations and suppressed hepatic steatosis-related gene expression in cells and mice. Additionally, kimchi recovered weight loss, lowered the serum and liver tissue lipid profiles, suppressed lipid accumulation, and reduced the effects of T0901317 and AICAR on lipogenic gene expression in tunicamycin-treated mice. Our results highlight that kimchi could prevent hepatic steatosis caused by ER stress in cells and mice.

Abstract Purpose: To investigate whether multiparametric parameters of pretreatment breast ultrasound (US) and clinicopathologic factors are associated with pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for breast cancer.
Methods: Between November 2018 and September 2022, 88 patients who underwent NAC and subsequent surgery were included in this study (median age, 55 years; interquartile range [IQR], 45, 59.3). Multiparametric breast US including grayscale, shear wave elastography (SWE) and superb microvascular imaging (SMI) of pathologically proven invasive breast cancers were retrospectively reviewed. Clinicopathological and multiparametric parameters of breast US, including size, SWEmax, SWEratio and vascular index on SMI (SMI
Results: The pCR group (n = 24) showed a significantly smaller tumor size, lower SWEmax, higher Ki-67 index, higher hormone receptor negativity and negative axillary lymph node metastasis compared to the non-pCR group (n = 64). Multivariate regression analysis showed that SWEmax (adjusted odds ratio[aOR] = 0.956, 95 % confidence interval [CI] = 0.919-0.994, P = 0.025) and Ki-67 index (aOR = 1.083, 95 % CI = 1.012-1.159, P = 0.021) were independently associated with pathologically complete response. The optimal cut-off values for predicting pCR were 27.5 % for Ki-67 with an AUC of 0.743 and 134.8 kPa for SWEmax with an AUC of 0.779. A combination model including clinical factors and SWEmax showed the best diagnostic performance with an AUC of 0.876.
Conclusion: A higher Ki-67 index and lower SWEmax measured on pretreatment breast US were independently associated with pCR in invasive breast cancer after NAC.

Abstract Developing a deep-learning-based diagnostic model demands extensive labor for medical image labeling. Attempts to reduce the labor often lead to incomplete or inaccurate labeling, limiting the diagnostic performance of models. This paper (i) constructs an attention-guiding framework that enhances the diagnostic performance of jaw bone pathology by utilizing attention information with partially labeled data; (ii) introduces an additional loss to minimize the discrepancy between network attention and its label; (iii) introduces a trapezoid augmentation method to maximize the utility of minimally labeled data. The dataset includes 716 panoramic radiograph data for jaw bone lesions and normal cases collected and labeled by two radiologists from January 2019 to February 2021. Experiments show that guiding network attention with even 5% of attention-labeled data can enhance the diagnostic accuracy for pathology from 92.41 to 96.57%. Furthermore, ablation studies reveal that the proposed augmentation methods outperform prior preprocessing and augmentation combinations, achieving an accuracy of 99.17%. The results affirm the capability of the proposed framework in fine-grained diagnosis using minimally labeled data, offering a practical solution to the challenges of medical image analysis.

Abstract The authors developed and validated the Korean version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-Short Form (K-ECRR-SF) with the goal of developing a culturally responsive scale. In study 1, a Rasch analysis was conducted on the 36 original items in the ECR-Revised (ECR-R) to select items that best represent anxiety and avoidance subscales by considering cultural equivalence. In study 2, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted for the selected 12 items with a different sample. The factor structures of the ECR-R and K-ECRR-SF through CFA were then compared through CFA. In addition, the K-ECRR-SF items were tested for related constructs (i.e., reassurance and support seeking, loneliness, dyadic satisfaction, depression, anxiety, and fear of intimacy) to its criterion evidence. The newly developed K-ECRR-SF is confirmed to be valid and culturally responsive scale in measuring attachment in Korea.
