Abstract The initial spray formation process of commercial fire sprinklers was investigated with a Large-eddy simulation and a Volume-of-Fluid model. The water-supply flow rate was set to 80 L/min corresponding to the minimum required flow rate in South Korea. From the study of grid dependency, a mesh size of 62.5 μm was adopted. Using this size of the mesh, unstable wave growth on the surface of the liquid sheet was captured, which corresponds to 1/16 the size of a sprinkler droplet that was derived in a previous study to be 1 mm. Sprinkler spray consisted of horizontal sheets generated by tines and vertical sheets generated by slots. Ligaments were produced by vortices on the air-water interface and droplets were generated by both longitudinal and lateral stretching. The flow rate of the tine section was larger than that of the slot section due to the large section angle. The water at the tine section was delivered to neighboring slot sections as flowing downstream. A formula for the sheet thickness was calibrated with measured mass outflow, which showed a more accurate value than the original formula driven by the mass conservation for the plate.

Abstract The development of computer vision-based deep learning models for accurate two-dimensional (2D) image classification has enabled us to surpass existing machine learning-based classifiers and human classification capabilities. Recently, steady efforts have been made to apply these sophisticated vision-based deep learning models as network intrusion detection domains, and various experimental results have confirmed their applicability and limitations. In this paper, we present an optimized method for processing network intrusion detection system (NIDS) datasets using vision-based deep learning models by further expanding existing studies to overcome these limitations. In the proposed method, the NIDS dataset can further enhance the performance of existing deep-learning-based intrusion detection by converting the dataset into 2D images through various image transformers and then integrating into three-channel RGB color images, unlike the existing method. Various performance evaluations confirm that the proposed method can significantly improve intrusion detection performance over the recent method using grayscale images, and existing NIDSs without the use of images. As network intrusion is increasingly evolving in complexity and variety, we anticipate that the intrusion detection algorithm outlined in this study will facilitate network security.

Abstract Decentralized Identifiers have recently expanded into Internet of Things devices and are crucial in securing users' digital identities and data. However, Decentralized Identifiers face challenges in scenarios necessitating authority delegation and anonymity, such as when dealing with legal guardianship for minors, device loss or damage, and specific medical contexts involving patient information. This paper aims to strengthen data sovereignty within the Decentralized Identifier system by implementing a secure authority delegation and anonymity scheme. It suggests optimizing verifiable presentations by utilizing a sequential aggregate signature, a Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Proof, and a Merkle tree to prevent against linkage and Sybil attacks while facilitating delegation. This strategy mitigates security risks related to delegation and anonymity, efficiently reduces the computational and verification efforts for signatures, and reduces the size of verifiable presentations by about 1.2 to 2 times.

Abstract Chitosan, a natural organic polymer, has shown bifunctional characteristics in the removal of cationic and anionic contaminants from water and wastewater treatment. In particular, cationic Cu(II) and anionic phosphate can simultaneously interact with chitosan owing to the presence of the amino group in the form of NH

Abstract In order to provide the reliability of transmitted data in the era of big data, it is necessary to communicate by applying signature technology to data. There are various signature schemes, among which attribute-based signatures perform signatures based on user attributes. This ensures signer anonymity by allowing users to create and verify signatures without exposing the signer's sensitive information. However, the verifier can verify normally if the attribute period expires and a user without signing authority creates and transmits a signature with the existing signing key and attributes. In addition, signers who abuse anonymity can disclose their signing keys and attributes for some purpose (Money, profit) because there is no risk of being caught. Unauthorized users can use public information to sign and send messages. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a Traceable Attribute-based Signature scheme provided with anonymous credentials. The proposed scheme has the feature of verifying the validity of the signer by using the pseudonym ID included in the user list in the cloud server. In addition, the signer's identity is expressed as an Oblivious Transfer-based pseudonym ID. The signer's identity can be verified through tracing in case of a problem.

Abstract Rationale: Despite existing literature on the impact of adolescent depressive symptoms on a variety of youth outcomes, little is known about whether and how adolescent depressive symptoms are associated with physical health in adulthood.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal association between adolescent depressive symptoms and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in adulthood. An extensive list of potential mechanisms underlying this association, including health behaviors, substance use, academic effort and achievement, and school-based relationships, was also examined.
Methods: Using the sibling sample from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (N = 3011), this study employed sibling fixed-effects models to address unobservable family-level confounders, such as genetic factors, parental and familial characteristics, and school and neighborhood environments.
Results: Adolescent depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of CVD in about 13 years later (b = 0.698). Sibling fixed-effects estimates revealed that, despite some attenuation (approximately 31%), this association is robust to adjustment for unobserved family-level heterogeneity. Substance use and academic effort/achievement explained about 35% and 16% of the association between adolescent depressive symptoms and adult CVD risk, respectively. In contrast, health behaviors and school-based relationships played little or no role in mediating the association.
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that policymakers and practitioners may wish to develop interventions to reduce adolescent depressive symptoms and to help adolescents with depressive symptoms avoid substance use and promote effort in school. Early interventions targeting adolescents with depressive symptoms may be a cost-effective strategy for preventing adult physical health problems.
