    Abstract When there is an interaction between a robot and a person, gaze control is very important for face-to-face communication. However, when a robot interacts with several people, neurorobotics plays an important role to determine the person to look at and those to pay attention to among the others. There are several factors which can influence the decision: who is speaking, who he/she is speaking to, where people are looking, if the user wants to attract attention, etc. This article presents a novel method to decide who to pay attention to when a robot interacts with several people. The proposed method is based on a competitive network that receives different stimuli (look, speak, pose, hoard conversation, habituation, etc.) that compete with each other to decide who to pay attention to. The dynamic nature of this neural network allows a smooth transition in the focus of attention to a significant change in stimuli. A conversation is created between different participants, replicating human behavior in the robot. The method deals with the problem of several interlocutors appearing and disappearing from the visual field of the robot. A robotic head has been designed and built and a virtual agent projected on the robot's face display has been integrated with the gaze control. Different experiments have been carried out with that robotic head integrated into a ROS architecture model. The work presents the analysis of the method, how the system has been integrated with the robotic head and the experiments and results obtained.

    Abstract This work presents a novel strategy to decipher fragments of Egyptian cartouches identifying the hieroglyphs of which they are composed. A cartouche is a drawing, usually inside an oval, that encloses a group of hieroglyphs representing the name of a monarch. Aiming to identify these drawings, the proposed method is based on several techniques frequently used in computer vision and consists of three main stages: first, a picture of the cartouche is taken as input and its contour is localized. In the second stage, each hieroglyph is individually extracted and identified. Finally, the cartouche is interpreted: the sequence of the hieroglyphs is established according to a previously generated benchmark. This sequence corresponds to the name of the king. Although this method was initially conceived to deal with both high and low relief writing in stone, it can be also applied to painted hieroglyphs. This approach is not affected by variable lighting conditions, or the intensity and the completeness of the objects. This proposal has been tested on images obtained from the Abydos King List and other Egyptian monuments and archaeological excavations. The promising results give new possibilities to recognize hieroglyphs, opening a new way to decipher longer texts and inscriptions, being particularly useful in museums and Egyptian environments. Additionally, devices used for acquiring visual information from cartouches (i.e., smartphones), can be part of a navigation system for museums where users are located in indoor environments by means of the combination of WiFi Positioning Systems (WPS) and depth cameras, as unveiled at the end of the document.

    Abstract Nowadays, one of the most important objectives in health research is the improvement of the living conditions and well-being of the elderly, especially those who live alone. These people may experience undesired or dangerous situations in their daily life at home due to physical, sensorial or cognitive limitations, such as forgetting their medication or wrong eating habits. This work focuses on the development of a database in a home, through non-intrusive technology, where several users are residing by combining: a set of non-intrusive sensors which captures events that occur in the house, a positioning system through triangulation using beacons and a system for monitoring the user's state through activity wristbands. Two months of uninterrupted measurements were obtained on the daily habits of 2 people who live with a pet and receive sporadic visits, in which 18 different types of activities were labelled. In order to validate the data, a system for the real-time recognition of the activities carried out by these residents was developed using different current Deep Learning (DL) techniques based on neural networks, such as Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTM) or Gated Recurrent Unit networks (GRU). A personalised prediction model was developed for each user, resulting in hit rates ranging from 88.29% to 90.91%. Finally, a data sharing algorithm has been developed to improve the generalisability of the model and to avoid overtraining the neural network.

    Abstract Ancient Egyptians had a complex religion, which was active for longer than the time that has passed since Cleopatra until our days. One amazing belief was to be buried with funerary statuettes to help the deceased carry out his/her tasks in the underworld. These funerary statuettes, mainly known as shabtis, were produced in different materials and were usually inscribed in hieroglyphs with formulas including the name of the deceased. Shabtis are important archaeological objects which can help to identify the owners, their jobs, ranks or their families. They are also used for tomb dating because, depending on different elements: color, formula, tools, wig, hand positions, etc., it is possible to associate them to a concrete type or period of time. Shabtis are spread all over the world, in excavations, museums or private collections, and many of them have not been studied and identified because this process requires a deep study and reading of the hieroglyphs. Our system is able to solve this problem using two different YOLO v3 networks for detecting the figure itself and the hieroglyphic names, which provide identification and cataloguing. Until now, there has been no other work on the detection and identification of shabtis. In addition, a semantic approach has been followed, creating an ontology to connect our system with the semantic metadata aggregator, Europeana, linking our results with known shabtis in different museums. A complete dataset has been created, a comparison with previous technologies for similar problems has been provided, such as SIFT in the ancient coin classification, and the results of identification and cataloguing are shown. These results are over similar problems and have led us to create a web application that shows our system and is available on line.

    Abstract In recent years, Artificial Intelligence Technologies (AIT) have been developed to improve the quality of life of the elderly and their safety in the home. This work focuses on developing a system capable of recognising the most usual activities in the daily life of an elderly person in real-time to enable a specialist to monitor the habits of this person, such as taking medication or eating the correct meals of the day. To this end, a prediction model has been developed based on recurrent neural networks, specifically on bidirectional LSTM networks, to obtain in real-time the activity being carried out by the individuals in their homes, based on the information provided by a set of different sensors installed at each person's home. The prediction model developed in this paper provides a 95.42% accuracy rate, improving the results of similar models currently in use. In order to obtain a reliable model with a high accuracy rate, a series of processing and filtering processes have been carried out on the data, such as a method based on a sliding window or a stacking and re-ordering algorithm, that are subsequently used to train the neural network, obtained from the public database CASAS.

    Abstract Over the last few years, several techniques have been developed with the aim of implementing one-shot learning, a concept that allows classifying images with only a single image per training category. Conceptually, these methods seek to reproduce certain behavior that humans have. People are able to recognize a person they have only seen once, but they are probably not able to do the same with certain animals, such as a monkey. This is because our brains have been trained for years with images of people but not so much of animals. Among the one-shot learning techniques, some of them have used data generation, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN). Other techniques have been based on the matching of descriptors traditionally used for object detection. Finally, one of the most prominent techniques involves using Siamese neural networks. Siamese networks are usually implemented with two convolutional nets that share their weights. They receive two images as input and can detect whether they belong to the same category or not. In the field of grocery products, there has been a lot of research on the one-shot learning problem but not so much on the use of Siamese networks. In this paper, several classifiers are firstly evaluated to decide on a convolutional model to be used with the Siamese and to improve the baseline results obtained in the dataset used. Then, two existing techniques are integrated within the Siamese model: a convolutional net and a Local Maximal Occurrence (LOMO) descriptor. The latter was initially used for the re-identification of people although it has shown its effectiveness to improve the values of a traditional Siamese with only convolutional sisters. The whole network is trained on categories and responds to different categories, showing its strong capacity to deal with the problem of having only one image per category.

Methods: Two groups of patients, one with the novo diagnostic and another in state of complete cytogenetic remission were followed for 12 months with quantitative PCR evaluations every three months and with chromosomal analysis every 6 months. Results: The group with the novo diagnosis showed 50% of complete cytogenetic remission at 12 months while the other 50% were considered to have primary resistance. Respect the molecular analysis, 10.5% of the patients reached undetectable BCR-ABL transcripts at 12 months. In the complete cytogenetic remission group, 10.6% lost the state of complete cytogene­tic remission at 12 months, 50% reached undetectable BCR-ABL transcripts but 10% showed levels higher than 10%, which in our standardization was equal to no molecular response. Conclusions: Despite having received the conventional dosages of 400 mg/day of imatinib, the cytogenetic and molecular responses obtained in our group of Colombian patients with CML, were lower than those in other international studies.
