Abstract Objective Children with acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) pose significantly burden on healthcare facilities due to high hospitalisation rates and mortality. However, limited epidemiological and clinical characteristics data on ARTIs in southeastern China during the COVID-19 pandemic exists.Design Cross-sectional.Setting Tertiary hospital associated with the First Affiliated Hospital, Fujian Medical University, China.Participants 1007 hospitalised children diagnosed with ARTIs, aged 30 days to 15 years, were enrolled in this study from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2021.Outcome measure The primary outcomes are the rate of pathogen infections in children with ARTIs. Secondary outcomes are the description of risk factors associated with ARTIs in children. Results Of the 1007 enrolled children, 28.2%, 42.2%, 21.8% and 7.7% were diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection, bronchopneumonia, bronchitis and pneumonia, respectively. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) was the most prevalent pathogen (31.9%), followed by influenza B virus (IFVB; 29.1%) and influenza A virus (IFVA; 19.1%). The study found that children under 1 year old (older than 30 days: ORIFVB=12.50; ORMP=8.53), children aged 1–3 years (ORMP=1.62), the winter season (ORIFVA=1.36), the time from symptoms onset to hospitalisation (ORMP=1.10) and increased precipitation (ORLP=1.01) were high-risk factors for ARTIs.Conclusion This investigation offers significant insights into the prevalence and distribution of common pathogens among children experiencing ARTIs in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The discernment of high-risk factors linked to these pathogens enhances our understanding of the epidemiological characteristics of ARTIs in children.

Abstract Emerging contaminants have recently evolved into a severe worldwide environmental issue. Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) with neurotoxicity, genotoxicity, and reproductive and developmental toxicity are a class of notorious emerging contaminants that cause great concern. The development of high-efficiency and portable sensors for rapid online monitoring of OPFRs has become the primary demand for the exploration of the environmental migration and transformation of OPFRs. In this work, interestingly, the cataluminescence (CTL) phenomenon of OPFRs is first observed, and an ingenious multidimensional ratiometric CTL sensing strategy is developed for the recognition of multiple OPFRs. Three characteristic ratios are extracted from the multipeak CTL spectral curves based on energy transfer of single Tb/Eu-modified MgO sensing material, and thus a novel three-dimensional (3D) code recognition could be mapped out. This obtained 3D coordinate is found to be a unique characteristic for a given OPFR, just like an exclusive person's ID number, which can successfully discriminate and detect 10 kinds of OPFR vapors, including homologous series and isomers. More importantly, CTL mechanism investigations for OPFRs demonstrate that OPFRs undergo a series of chemical reaction processes, e.g., oxidative pyrolysis and hydroxylation, and different high-energy excited intermediates are generated, which trigger discrepant energy-transfer efficiency toward rare earth ions, leading to multipeak spectral profiles. Briefly, this proposed CTL analytical platform for OPFRs recognition initiates a new sensing principle for the efficient identification of emerging contaminants and shows significant prospects on rapid on-site detection.

Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive study of the Xiangsizhou Bridge, a double-tower double-cable steel–concrete composite girder cable-stayed bridge located in Pingnan, Guangxi, China. A finite element model of the full-bridge spatial truss system was established using a dual main beam simulation of the steel–concrete composite girder. To obtain the initial reasonable bridge state, the minimum bending energy method was employed, followed by optimization of the state using the unknown load coefficient method to attain the final reasonable completion state. This paper proposes an innovative construction scheme for the erection of the main girders, which is designed to address the issue of excessive tensile stresses in the bridge deck slabs that can arise in conventional construction schemes. This scheme can save about 4 months of construction time and shorten the construction cycle of main beam erection by 60%. Furthermore, the study derived and verified a formula for the intermediate cable force during the construction process, which demonstrated its effectiveness. This study provides practical value for the design and construction of similar bridges.
