Abstract This manuscript details the development of a general and mild protocol for the α-C-H cyanation of tertiary amines and its application in late-stage functionalization. Suitable substrates include tertiary aliphatic, benzylic, and aniline-type substrates and complex substrates. Functional groups tolerated under the reaction conditions include various heterocycles and ketones, amides, olefins, and alkynes. This broad substrate scope is remarkable, as comparable reaction protocols for α-C-H cyanation frequently occur via free radical mechanisms and are thus fundamentally limited in their functional group tolerance. In contrast, the presented catalyst system tolerates functional groups that typically react with free radicals, suggesting an alternative reaction pathway. All components of the described catalyst system are readily available, allowing implementation of the presented methodology without the need for lengthy catalyst synthesis.

Abstract Twenty-four-hour urine measurements play a crucial role in the diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of various diseases. There are different approaches to the collection of urine in patients who need to collect multiple urine samples at a time, especially in hospitals with heavy workloads. In this study, we compared the sodium, potassium, chloride, amylase, calcium, creatinine, phosphorus, microalbumin, protein, magnesium, urea, uric acid, adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, metanephrine, normetanephrine, vanillylmandelic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and homovanillic acid results of 24-h urine samples analyzed immediately without acid addition, which we accepted as the reference and baseline measurement, with the results of the samples analyzed after waiting for 24 h without acid addition, analyzed immediately with acid addition and analyzed after waiting for 24 h with acid addition. Chloride, microalbumin, amylase and protein tests, which are recommended to be measured in the sample without preservatives, are affected by acid addition. Adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine, which are the tests recommended to be measured in acid-added urine are degraded in the samples without acid, and the levels of metanephrine and normetanephrine were not significantly degraded in the absence of preservatives.

Abstract Many alien species directly affect humans by damaging agricultural crops and threatening the health of humans and domestic animals. Today, with the widespread use of social media, posts made by citizen scientists provide valuable data about alien species very quickly. This study reveals the importance of online databases for our knowledge on the spread of the Giant Asian Mantes Hierodula tenuidentata and H. patellifera. The data provided by citizen scientists through social media such as iNaturalist, Observation.org, and Alciphron (the latter only for Serbia) provide comprehensive baseline data for monitoring the distribution of these alien species. While 16% of the records of these species were obtained from the literature, 84% consisted of data from social media and personal observations. Our study supports the findings of previous studies stating that citizen scientists make important contributions in monitoring alien species and providing data for early prevention.

Abstract Background: Gallbladder (GB) duplication is a rare congenital biliary anomaly, which can increase iatrogenic biliary injuries during surgery. We report a case of duplicated GB presenting with acute cholecystitis in order to draw attention to its diagnosis and treatment. Case Report: A 57-year-old male patient with complaints of dyspepsia was diagnosed by ultrasound with duplicated GB containing gallstones, but the patient did not consent to undergo treatment. Three months later, the patient developed acute cholecystitis and obstructive jaundice, and was referred to our hospital. MR cholangiography showed an H-shaped duplicated gallbladder with gallstones in the common bile duct, and then ERCP was performed. The laparoscopic view could not completely identify the anatomy of the GBs and cystic ducts; therefore, a conventional cholecystectomy was performed. Conclusion: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for H-shaped duplicated GB cases with cholecystitis may be challenging due to the duplicated cystic canals and GB inflammation. Anatomic variations should be identified preoperatively with proper imaging modalities. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be primarily performed, as well as conventional cholecystectomy if required, to prevent biliary tract injuries.

Abstract Objectives: The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of antral nodularity and establish its association with Helicobacter pylori infection in children. Methods: A total of 358 children (mean age: 10.35±3.15 years, M/F:0.95) who had upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were evaluated retrospectively in terms of clinical, endoscopic and histological findings. The association between antral nodularity and H. pylori infection was determined. Results: Antral nodularity was observed in 158 (44.1%) patients. H. pylori was detected in 138 (83.4%) of those patients with antral nodularity. Infected children with H. pylori compared to non-infected group were older (p= 0.0001). The antral nodularity was observed significantly higher in H. pylori-positive patients than in H. pylori-negative cases (p=0.0001). The sensitivity was 52%, specificity 78%, positive predictive value 87% and negative predictive value was 37%. Lymphoid follicle and aggregates formation was observed higher in patients with antral nodularity than patients without (p=0.0001 and p=0.017, respectively). Statistically significant difference was observed between antral nodularity and the grades of H.pylori density (p=0.0001). Conclusions: Children with antral nodularity were more likely to have H. pylori gastritis compared to children without. The parameters associated significantly with antral nodularity were older age, H. pylori infection and H. pylori density.

Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the effect of bimatoprost/timolol maleate fixed combination (BTFC), latanoprost/timolol maleate fixed combination (LTFC), and travoprost/timolol maleate fixed combination (TTFC) on 24-h intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
Methods: This prospective, observer-masked, randomized study included 50 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. All patients were using hypotensive lipids and timolol maleate fixed combination treatment for ≥4 weeks and had an IOP ≤ 21 mmHg. Group 1 (n = 18) received BTFC, group 2 (n = 14) received LTFC, and group 3 (n = 18) received TTFC. All patients were hospitalized, and IOP was monitored for 24-h (10:00, 14:00, 18:00, 22:00, 02:00, and 06:00). Mean diurnal IOP variation measurements were taken between 06:00 and 18:00, and mean nocturnal IOP variation measurements were taken between 22:00 and 02:00. Mean IOP and IOP variation in the three groups were compared.
    Results: Mean 24-h IOP did not differ significantly between the three groups (group 1: 14.6 ± 2.9 mmHg; group 2: 14.1 ± 3.7 mmHg and group 3: 15.8 ± 2.0 mmHg; P > 0.05). Mean diurnal IOP variation was 4.6 ± 2.3 mmHg in group 1, 5.8 ± 2.4 mmHg in group 2, and 4.3 ± 1.7 mmHg in group 3, and mean nocturnal IOP variation was 3.2 ± 2.8 mmHg in group 1, 2.9 ± 1.9 mmHg in group 2, and 3.0 ± 1.6 mmHg group 3. There were not any significant differences in diurnal or nocturnal IOP variation between the three groups (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: All three fixed combinations effectively controlled IOP for 24-h and had a similar effect on diurnal and nocturnal IOP variations.

Abstract Background: The term "H syndrome" was coined to denote the major clinical findings, which include hyperpigmentation, hypertrichosis, hearing loss, hepatosplenomegaly, hyperglycaemia, hypogonadism, hallux flexion contractures, and short height.
Objective: To report the clinical, endocrinological, histochemical, and genetic findings of three siblings.
Methods: Skin and liver biopsies were taken to investigate the histochemical characteristics of hyperpigmented hypertrichotic skin lesions and massive hepatomegaly. The levels of basal serum thyroid hormones, oestradiol, total testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinising hormone, and stimulated growth hormone (GH) were measured to investigate the endocrine aspects of the syndrome. Mutation analysis was carried out in all six exons and exon-intron boundaries of SLC29A3 by direct sequencing.
Results: Physical examination of the patients revealed common charac-teristic findings of H syndrome. Additional clinical findings were sectorial iris atrophy in the younger sister. Laboratory evaluation revealed microcytic anaemia, markedly increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein levels, and humoral immune deficiency in the younger siblings, who presented with recurrent fever and sinopulmonary infection. Two different GH stimulation tests revealed GH deficiency in the younger sister with short stature. Liver and skin biopsies revealed polyclonal lymphohistiocytic and plasma cell infiltration. Sequencing of SLC29A3 in the three siblings revealed a novel homozygous mutation in exon 6, which caused the transition of arginine to tryptophan.
Conclusion: This study not only extended the clinical and mutation spectrum of SLC29A3 in H syndrome, but also showed that short children should be assessed according to the guidelines for short stature in children.
