Abstract The huge amounts of old and damaged tires spread worldwide has caused many complex environmental risks. The old tires have been converted to crumb rubber (CR) and tire recycled steel fiber (RSF) to facilitate their use. This study used CR to partially replace natural sand in reinforced (RC) columns. Externally bonded (EB) carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates, welded wire mesh (WWM), and RSF were used to enhance the axial behavior of the tested columns to overcome the concrete deficiencies resulting from the inclusion of the CR instead of natural sand. Eighteen columns were prepared and tested to discuss the effects of strengthening type, CR content, RSF, and strengthening area on the axial behavior of the RC columns. Certain columns were internally reinforced with WWM, while others were externally strengthened with EB CFRP laminates. Partially or fully EB CFRP laminates were used to strengthen the columns. Moreover, one column was cast with NC and 0.2% RSF to investigate the role of RSF in confining the column. The results demonstrated a concrete strength reduction for the rubberized concrete (CRC) as the CR content increased. Conversely, the strengthened columns experienced higher load capacities than the corresponding un-strengthened ones cast with the same concrete mix. Moreover, adding 2% RSF to the NC mix could enhance the column capacity, although it decreased the concrete strength. Furthermore, using two CFRP layers increased the load capacity and ductility of the strengthened columns. The strengthened column cast with 50% CR showed the highest load efficiency (334.3% compared to the un-strengthened one).

Abstract Introduction: Burn injuries are underappreciated injuries that cause significant morbidity and mortality. Burn injuries, especially severe burns, trigger immunological and inflammatory responses, metabolic abnormalities, and distributive shock, all of which can be extended to multiple organ failures.

Abstract Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe condition distinguished by inflammation and impaired gas exchange in the lungs.
Aim: To explore the antibacterial activity of
Methods: The antibacterial efficacy of AV-CS-NPs was evaluated through a broth microdilution assay. In addition, the impact of AV-CS-NPs on
Results: The AV-CS-NPs that were prepared exhibited clustered semispherical and spherical forms, having an average particle size of approximately 60 nm. These nanoparticles displayed a diverse structure with an uneven distribution of particle sizes. The maximum entrapment efficiency of 95.5% ± 1.25% was achieved. The obtained findings revealed that The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration values were determined to be 5 and 10 ug/ml, respectively, indicating the potent bactericidal effect of the NPs. Also,
Conclusion: These NPs can serve as potential candidates for the development of alternative antimicrobial agents.

Abstract Violence against women is a global public health problem, especially in the childbearing period. However, it is considered as the least documented human rights violation worldwide which at its worst can result in femicide. This medico-legal study aims to explore the pattern of unnatural deaths among women in childbearing age group in the Egyptian community in recent years for early detection of women who are at risk and for establishment preventive measures. One hundred and one fifty of suspicious deaths of women in the reproductive age from 13 to 49 years were autopsied in Zeinhom Morgue (the Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority) during 2019-2020. Demographic data, circumstances of death, causes and manner of death were defined and statistically analyzed. Unnatural death occurred during the 2nd -3rdh decades, 83.4 % were from urban residence, 40.4 % were single while 39.1 % of cases were married. In the majority of deaths, bodies were found at home. Regarding the manner of death, there were 38.4 % suicidal deaths and 38.4 % were homicidal death, while 19.2 % were accidental deaths. Sharp traumatic injuries were the most common pattern in homicidal cases mainly after domestic arguments by a spouse or relative while the most common suicidal and accidental pattern was jumping from height. The present study proved that violence against women resulting in unnatural deaths is very prevalent in Egypt with a rising rate in recent years. These findings could be useful for early identification of vulnerable women and for preventing woman deaths in the future.
