Abstract Abstract Background Implants immediately loaded full-arch prosthesis in maxilla is always a challenge, especially when the zone 2 is extremely defected. To achieve a satisfying result, different therapeutic alternatives have been proposed, such as zygomatic implant, pterygoid implant; however, precise surgical skills limited its application. Case presentation This study reported a case that an edentulous patient was treated with a new technique, two axial implants and four tilted implants supporting an immediate fixed denture, extruding the cortical bone of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus to establish the primary stability. Conclusions Two-year follow-up proves that it is a viable choice. Meanwhile, a reliable method for its saving time and money and low level of discomfort for patients is presented.

Abstract Alzheimer's disease (AD), a prevalent multiple neurodegenerative disease, has gained attention, particularly in the aging population. However, presently available therapies merely focus on alleviating the symptoms of AD and fail to slow disease progression significantly. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to ameliorate symptoms or interfere with the pathogenesis of aging-associated diseases for many years based on disease-modifying in multiple pathological roles with multi-targets, multi-systems and multi-aspects. Mahonia species as a TCM present potential for anti-inflammatory activity, antioxidant activity, anti-acetylcholinesterase activity, and antiamyloid- beta activity that was briefly discussed in this review. They are regarded as promising drug candidates for AD therapy. The findings in this review support the use of Mahonia species as an alternative therapy source for treating AD.

Abstract Shepherd's crook (Geodorum) is a genus of protected orchids that are valuable both medicinally and ornamentally. Geodorum eulophioides (GE) is an endangered and narrowly distributed species, and Geodorum densiflorum (GD) and Geodorum attenuatum (GA) are widespread species. The growth of orchids depend on microorganisms. However, there are few studies on the microbial structure in Geodorum, and little is known about the roles of microorganisms in the endangered mechanism of G. eulophioides. This study analyzed the structure and composition of bacterial and fungal communities in the roots and rhizosphere soil of GE, GD, and GA. The results showed that Delftia, Bordetella and norank_f_Xanthobacteraceae were the dominant bacteria in the roots of Geodorum, while norank_f_Xanthobacteraceae, Gaiella and norank_f_norank_o_Gaiellales were the dominant bacteria in the rhizosphere soil of Geodorum. In the roots, the proportion of Mycobacterium in GD_roadside was higher than that in GD_understory, on the contrary, the proportion of Fusarium, Delftia and Bordetella in GD_roadside was lower than that in GD_understory. Compared with the GD_understory, the roots of GD_roadside had lower microbial diversity. In the endangered species GE, Russula was the primary fungus in the roots and rhizosphere soil, with fungal diversity lower than in the more widespread species. Among the widespread species, the dominant fungal genera in the roots and rhizosphere soil were Neocosmospora, Fusarium and Coprinopsis. This study enhances our understanding of microbial composition and diversity, providing fundamental information for future research on microbial contributions to plant growth and ecosystem function in Geodorum.

Abstract The IL-17 pathway displays remarkably diverse functional modes between different subphyla, classes, and even orders, yet its driving factors remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that the IL-17 pathway originated through domain shuffling between a Toll-like receptor (TLR)/IL-1R pathway and a neurotrophin-RTK (receptor-tyrosine-kinase) pathway (a Trunk-Torso pathway). Unlike other new pathways that evolve independently, the IL-17 pathway remains intertwined with its donor pathways throughout later evolution. This intertwining not only influenced the gains and losses of domains and components in the pathway but also drove the diversification of the pathway's functional modes among animal lineages. For instance, we reveal that the crustacean female sex hormone, a neurotrophin inducing sex differentiation, could interact with IL-17Rs and thus be classified as true IL-17s. Additionally, the insect prothoracicotropic hormone, a neurotrophin initiating ecdysis in

Abstract Gelatin (GL) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) are common natural components for edible films, but their water barrier performance are finite as hydrophilic polymers. In this study, a GL/CMC water barrier film was prepared, characterized and applied. The microstructure results showed that complex coacervation at pH 2.0 and cross-linking effect of sodium benzoate resulted in strong interaction forces and dense structure of this film. Compared with pure GL or CMC film, this novel composite film decreased water vapor permeability by approximately 90%, and possessed applicable water solubility (51.5%) and stronger barrier to oxygen and UV light. Acidic environment and sodium benzoate endowed antibacterial activity. Furthermore, the water barrier coating film decreased water loss by 47.8% and improved overall quality of fresh strawberries stored at 25 °C for 6 d. Therefore, the novel water barrier film based on complex coacervation and cross-linking is promising to control the postharvest quality of perishable berries.

Abstract Background: As adjunctive therapy, puerarin injection has been widely applied for the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP) in China during the past decades. However, the efficacy of puerarin injection as adjunctive therapy for UAP has not been well confirmed. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to summarize the available evidence to estimate the efficacy of puerarin injection in treating UAP.
Objective: A systematic review and meta-analysis with subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) principle were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of puerarin injection as adjunctive therapy in treating UAP.
Methods: To obtain the published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on puerarin injection, databases, namely, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Sino-Med, PubMed, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), Medline, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, Chinese Science Citation Database, and Embase were systematically searched until June 2021. In this meta-analysis, Review Manager version 5.3 software and Stata version 12.0 software were employed to analyze the collected data. Based on the methodological quality, years of publications, sample size and dosages, sensitivity analysis, and subgroup analysis were performed. The GRADE assessment was conducted by the software GRADEpro version 3.6 software.
Results: A total of 17 RCTs involving 1,459 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Results indicated that puerarin injection as adjunctive therapy was more superior than conventional Western medicine alone in reducing angina symptoms [risk ratio (RR) = 1.22, 95% CI 1.16 to 1.28,
Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicated that puerarin injection was more effective than using conventional Western medicine alone in the treatment of UAP. However, because of the low methodological quality of the included RCTs, more evidence was still needed to verify the efficacy of puerarin injection.
