Abstract Background: Technology advances make it increasingly possible to adapt direct behavioral assessments for classroom use. This study examined children's scores on HTKS-Kids, a new, largely child-led version of the established individual research assessment of self-regulation, Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders-Revised task (HTKS-R). For the HTKS-Kids tablet-based assessment, which was facilitated by children's preschool teachers, we examined (1) preliminary reliability and validity; (2) variation in scores predicted by child age and background characteristics; and (3) indication that HTKS-Kids provides different information from teacher ratings of children.
    Method: Participants included
Results: We found evidence that (1) the HTKS-Kids captures variation in children's self-regulation and correlates positively with established measures, (2) parent education was the best predictor of HTKS-Kids scores, and (3) teachers rated Black children significantly worse and white children better on the CBRS, with the magnitude of group differences similar to the contribution of parent education. In contrast, Black and white children showed no score differences on HTKS-Kids.
Implications: The HTKS-Kids is a promising new tablet-based assessment of self-regulation that could replace or supplement traditional teacher ratings, which are often subject to implicit bias.

Abstract Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the front-line treatment for early and metastatic prostate cancer, and the development of tumor resistance to it has major clinical consequences. Cancer cells start to proliferate and tumors begin to regrow, requiring the administration of more generic anticancer treatments like surgery, radiotherapy, and/or chemotherapy. Tumor-associated macrophages are known to drive tumor resistance to a number of anti-cancer therapies. El-Kenawi and colleagues now demonstrate a novel mechanism underpinning their ability to do so in prostate tumors during ADT. This involves the accumulation of cholesterol by macrophages in tumors and its transfer to cancer cells, where it acts as a precursor for androgen biosynthesis and results in the activation of androgen receptors.

Abstract Background: The effects of low-moderate prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) on brain development have been infrequently studied.
Aim: To compare cortical and white matter structure between children aged 6 to 8 years with low-moderate PAE in trimester 1 only, low-moderate PAE throughout gestation, or no PAE.
Methods: Women reported quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption before and during pregnancy. Magnetic resonance imaging was undertaken for 143 children aged 6 to 8 years with PAE during trimester 1 only (n = 44), PAE throughout gestation (n = 58), and no PAE (n = 41). T

Conclusion: This study reports a relationship between low-moderate PAE throughout gestation and cingulate cortex and cingulum tract alterations, suggesting a teratogenic vulnerability. Further investigation is warranted.

Abstract Purpose of review: Adolescents with haematological malignancies within adult services, in the UK from 16 years old, have unique needs and require developmentally targeted services and approaches to care delivery. High-risk intensive treatments are common for this cohort and a better understanding of what individualised supportive and palliative care means in this context is required.
Recent findings: Being known and understood as an emerging adult, with particular recognition of developmental stage, is an essential component of quality measures and underpins the adolescent, and caregiver, experience when faced with an uncertain or poor cancer prognosis (UPCP). Healthcare professionals (HCPs) can experience increased emotional labour and feelings of professional inadequacy when caring for adolescents with UPCP. Therapeutic alliance improves HCPs understanding of optimum individualised care by improving communication and supported decision making. Access to training and support for HCPs is required to address the emotional impact of therapeutic alliance with teenage/adolescent and young adults (T/AYAs) with advanced cancer.
Summary: Investment in therapeutic alliance, alongside robust support mechanisms and targeted training, can improve the skills, confidence and wellbeing for HCPs, and can also ensure optimum individualised care for T/AYAs with UPCP. Evidence for optimum care for adolescents with advanced cancer is relatively scarce, especially for younger T/AYAs (16-24) in the UK who sit within adult services. Further evaluation of the impact of current UK expertise, services and programs are needed to inform future development.
