    Abstract We developed an efficient and environmentally friendly methodology for selectively synthesizing highly substituted phenols using readily available enallenoates and Grignard reagents. This method consistently yields good to excellent results across over 60 examples, demonstrating the substrate scope and the exploration of phenol product derivatization, further extending the method's utility.

    Abstract This study investigates the landscape of collective illness narratives on social media in China during December 2022 and January 2023, when nearly one billion people were infected with the COVID-19 Omicron virus. By analyzing 655 private social media posts, conducting in-depth interviews with 50 individuals, and organizing 6 focus group discussions with 24 participants, this study explores how COVID-19 Omicron infection became normalized and widely discussed on private social media platforms, notably WeChat Moments. This study unveils distinct features that arise when illness narratives and social media intersect and reveals how people exercised moral imagination and depathologized perception in social media illness narratives. The article provides narrative dynamics during the pandemic in a collective manner and sheds light on the reshaping of illness narratives in the era of social media, offering insights for future pandemic responses.

    Abstract This work aimed at studying the cryoprotective effect of starch nanoparticles (SNPs) as ice nucleators on Lactobacillus bulgaricus CICC 6097 and exploring the protective mechanism. SNPs with a diameter of 363 nm were obtained, which possessed special properties to enhance ice nucleation and blunt ice crystals edges, and can be wrapped around the surface of bacteria form a protective barrier, thus maintaining the integrity of cell membranes and improving the survivability of L. bulgaricus CICC 6097 from 36.09% to 75.56%. However, SNCs solution formed ice crystals with obvious spikes during freezing, which was harmful to bacteria survival. Therefore, SNPs addition is a possible strategy for increasing viable cell counts during freezing. To the best of our knowledge, this report is the first to demonstrate the cryoprotective effect of ice nucleator on lactic acid bacteria.

    Abstract Brain metastases (BM) are common in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and confer poor prognoses. Zorifertinib (AZD3759), an EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) with high blood-brain barrier penetration, has previously demonstrated promising systemic and intracranial antitumor activity in phase 1-3 studies. This is the first report of a patient with EGFR-mutant (exon 21 L858R) NSCLC and symptomatic untreated multiple BM who achieved a long overall survival (OS) of more than 65 months after sequential treatment with zorifertinib and a third-generation EGFR-TKI. This new treatment paradigm offers a new treatment option and deserves further clinical exploration to prolong OS of patients with EGFR-mutant NSCLC and untreated multiple BM.

    Abstract The optimization of railway construction schemes is a complexity system engineering task with multiple dimensions, diverse conditional constraints, and multifaceted objective assessments. The decision-making and scheme evaluation entail subjectivity, randomness, and fuzziness. To address the comprehensive optimization challenge in construction schemes effectively and efficiently, we investigate an optimization method for railway construction schemes. This method is based on multi-dimensional combination weighting and improved grey theory. After analyzing the primary influencing factors, we established a railway construction plan optimization index system comprising 4 dimensions and 18 factors. The weight combination coefficient is determined using the pros and cons solution distance method, and the optimal weight set for the index is determined through the multi-dimensional combination weighting approach. Utilizing the method of superior and inferior solution distance coupled with grey theory, we ascertain the order of advantages and disadvantages for each construction scheme, subsequently achieving construction scheme optimization. To illustrate this, we employ the optimization process for a high-speed railway section in Guangxi as an exemplar. The verification results indicate that the gray relative closeness values for schemes A, B, and C are 0.7089, 0.4813, and 0.4463, respectively. Scheme A has the highest gray relative closeness value, thus making it the optimal route scheme. The optimal results obtained through this method align with the outcomes of expert validation and existing research, thereby validating the effectiveness and practicality of the model. By employing a multidimensional combination weighting method, the deficiencies of traditional indicator weight calculations are mitigated, resulting in indicator weights that are more reflective of the actual circumstances. At the same time, the application of improvements in the grey theory comprehensive evaluation method enables the integration and computation of indicator data for each construction plan. Through the intuitive representation of grey relative closeness, the advantages and disadvantages of each plan are effectively characterized. This enhances the scientific rigor and applicability of the railway construction plan optimization process. The research findings can serve as a reference for similar railway construction scheme selection problems in the future.

    Abstract Combined the improved fast independent component analysis (FastICA) algorithm with the singular value decomposition algorithm, a single-channel fetal electrocardiogram (fECG) extraction method is proposed. First, the improved FastICA algorithm is used to estimate the maternal ECG component from a single-channel abdominal signal of pregnant women using an overrelaxation factor. Then, a preliminary estimate of the fECG signal is obtained by subtracting from the single-channel abdominal signal. Subsequently, the singular value decomposition algorithm is used to denoise the preliminarily estimated fECG signal to obtain a high signal-to-noise ratio. In addition, in the singular value decomposition algorithm for fetal arrhythmia, an improved method for constructing the ECG signal reconstruction matrix is proposed. Finally, the fECG extraction experiments on synthetic abdominal signals and actual abdominal signals (data from 49 abdominal channels sourced from DAISY database and the non-invasive fECG database in PhysioNet) are carried out. The experimental results show that the method in this paper can effectively improve the signal-to-noise ratio and the accuracy of fECG signal extraction, and is suitable for maternal or fetal arrhythmias. Compared with the FastICA algorithm, the signal-to-noise ratio of the fECG signal extracted by the method in this paper is improved by about 5 dB, and the accuracy of fECG extraction in the PhysioNet database can reach 96.54%.
