Abstract Given the critical and complex features of medical emergencies, it is essential to develop models that enable prompt and suitable clinical decision-making based on considerable information. Emergency nurses are responsible for categorizing and prioritizing injuries and illnesses on the frontlines of the emergency room. This study aims to create an Emergency Medical Rapid Triage and Prediction Assistance model using electronic medical records and machine learning techniques. Patient information was retrieved from the emergency department of a large regional teaching hospital in Taiwan, and five supervised learning techniques were used to construct classification models for predicting critical outcomes. Of these models, the model using logistic regression had superior prediction performance, with an F1 score of 0.861 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.855. The Emergency Medical Rapid Triage and Prediction Assistance model demonstrated superior performance in predicting intensive care and hospitalization outcomes compared with the Taiwan Triage and Acuity Scale and three clinical early warning tools. The proposed model has the potential to assist emergency nurses in executing challenging triage assessments and emergency teams in treating critically ill patients promptly, leading to improved clinical care and efficient utilization of medical resources.

Abstract Neural tissue engineering as alternatives to recover damaged tissues and organs is getting more and more attention due to the lack of regeneration ability of natural tissue nervous system after injury. Particularly, topographic scaffolds are one of the critical elements to guide nerve orientation and reconnection with characteristics of mimic the natural extracellular matrix. This review focuses on scaffolds preparation technologies, topographical features, scaffolds-based encapsulations delivery strategies for neural tissue regeneration, biological functions on nerve cell guidance and regeneration, and applications of topographic scaffolds in vivo and in vitro. Here, the recent developments in topographic scaffolds for neural tissue engineering by simulating neural cell topographic orientation and differentiation are presented. We also explore the challenges and future perspectives of topographical scaffolds in clinical trials and practical applications.

Abstract Semantic communication technology in the 6G wireless system focuses on semantic extraction in communication, that is, only the inherent meaning of the intention in the information. Existing technologies still have challenges in extracting emotional perception in the information, high compression rates, and privacy leakage due to knowledge sharing in communication. Large-scale generative-model technology could rapidly generate multimodal information according to user requirements. This paper proposes an approach that leverages large-scale generative models to create animated short films that are semantically and emotionally similar to real scenes and characters. The visual content of the data source is converted into text expression through semantic understanding technology; emotional clues from the data source media are added to the text form through reinforcement learning technology; and finally, a large-scale generative model is used to generate visual media, which is consistent with the semantics of the data source. This paper develops a semantic communication process with distinct modules and assesses the enhancements garnered from incorporating an emotion enhancement module. This approach facilitates the expedited generation of broad media forms and volumes according to the user's intention, thereby enabling the creation of generated multimodal media within applications in the metaverse and in intelligent driving systems.

Abstract Transdermal drug delivery of macromolecule drugs attracts significant attention due to the advantage of convenience and biocompatibility. However, the practical usage of it is limited by the low delivery efficiency and poor drug absorption. To develop an efficient, safe, and controllable transdermal delivery method, the near-infrared (NIR) triggered calcium sulfate and gelatin biodegradable composite microneedle (MN) patches are developed. The MN patches are fabricated by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) molds, and the structure data can be adjusted by changing the molds. Such an MN patch can release both macro and micro molecule drugs. After loading with photothermal converter IR780, which can transfer energy of light to heat, the release of macromolecule drugs in MNs can be controlled by applying NIR irradiation. The control effect can be enhanced by spraying 1-tetradecanol (TD) coating and optimizing the ratio (weight) of gelatin and calcium sulfate to 2:6. Besides, the MN patch can deliver drugs through the skin barrier, and the process can be controlled by NIR. Moreover, the insulin-loaded MN patch exhibits some therapeutic effects on healthy mice. This work suggests that biodegradable MNs can achieve controllable drug delivery and potentially be applied in individual treatment via transdermal ingestion.
