Abstract We previously showed that inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein expression in melanoma tumor cells is associated with poor patient prognosis. Here, we analyzed the association between iNOS and the oncogenic PI3K-AKT pathway. TCGA data show that iNOS and phospho-Akt Ser473 expression were associated significantly only in the subset of tumors with genetically intact PTEN. Employing a stage III melanoma TMA, we showed that iNOS protein presence is significantly associated with shorter survival only in tumors with PTEN protein expression. These findings led to our hypothesis that the iNOS product, nitric oxide (NO), suppresses the function of PTEN and stimulates PI3K-Akt activation. Melanoma cells in response to NO exposure

Abstract Like manufacturing companies, hotels implement several strategies in order to satisfy consumers’ needs and wants. These strategies play critical roles in the context of unique characteristics of hotel services and interaction between boundary spanning role employee and consumer, when they are examined from the service firms’ perspectives. Having outlined this basic information, managerial ethical behaviors are assumed to depict relationships with frontline employees’ motivation and job satisfaction. In light of the aforementioned information, this study aims to make boundary spanning role employees assess the managerial ethical behaviors. Therefore, Managerial Ethical Behavior and Job Satisfaction Survey was conducted with 836 frontline employees in four and five star hotels in Adana. The reliability and validity dimensions of the scale were taken into consideration so as to be capable of obtaining reasonable results and making contribution to the related literature. Frequency tests and means were employed, and regression analysis was used to investigate the effect of managerial ethical behavior on employees’ motivation and job satisfaction. Managerial ethical behavior has positive effects on both employees' motivation and their job satisfaction. And as expected, employees motivation has positive and moderate effect on their job satisfaction in the subject 4 and 5 Star hotel companies

Abstract Interleukin-24 (IL-24), also known as melanoma differentiation-associated gene-7 (mda-7), is a member of the IL-10 family that exhibits both tumor suppressor and proinflammatory properties. We describe the purification of this novel dual-function tumor suppressor/cytokine from the supernatant of IL-24 gene-transfected HEK 293 cells and define the biochemical and functional properties of the soluble human IL-24 protein. Size exclusion chromatography demonstrates that an IL-24 macromolecular complex fractionates in a broad peak with a median of 110 kDa and comprises several IL-24 isoforms, identified by immunoblotting with anti-IL-24 polyclonal antibody after reducing SDS-PAGE analysis. IL-24 was found to associate with two serum components, albumin and C1q. Cation exchange purification results in the isolation of at least two N-linked glycosylated IL-24 dimers covalently associated via intermolecular disulfide bonds. These molecularly defined N-glycosylated IL-24 dimers elicited dose-dependent secretion of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and IL-6 from human monocytes, as well as cytotoxicity to human melanoma cell lines. Thus, we demonstrated that the secreted, glycosylated, dimeric, human IL-24 is immunomodulatory to monocytes and exhibits tumor cell growth inhibition.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the data currently available on predictors of sperm retrieval (SR) in infertile men with Klinefelter syndrome (KS). The data of infertile patients with KS who were evaluated for primary infertility in the andrology outpatient clinics of six centres were retrospectively reviewed. SR, fertilization and pregnancy rates were evaluated. While SR was achieved with microscopic testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) in 57.7% of the cases, the positive pregnancy rate was 22%. While mosaicism was significantly associated with achieving pregnancy, it was not significant for SR (p = 0.002 and p = 0.136 respectively). However, receiving medical treatment prior to mTESE was a positive factor for both achieving pregnancy (p = 0.010) and successful SR (p = 0.032). Unsurprisingly, fertilization rate was a variable that increased the pregnancy rate (p = 0.001). In addition, total testosterone value correlated with SR (p < 0.001). For patients with KS, pregnancy can be achieved by obtaining sperm through mTESE, especially in those with mosaic karyotype, normal partner fertility, a high fertilization rate and who receive appropriate medical treatment before mTESE.

Abstract In this study, 3990 movements of 629 different ships approaching to the Ambarlı port of Istanbul and 10,272 movements of 2798 different ships arriving at Kocaeli port which are the largest ports of Turkey were monitored for a year between September 1, 2017 and September 1, 2018. It is well known that ship exhaust emissions have a significant impact on pollutant and global warming agent mass inputs and diminish air quality around port areas. We calculated ship exhaust emissions for three different modes by ENTEC method. The annual estimated emissions were 72,802, 1430.4, 900.3, 105.3, 60.9, and 59 tons for CO

Abstract A 65 year old man had experienced Miles Operation cause of left colon carcinoma six years ago. Five years later bilateral nephrostomy catheters had placed into his kidneys because of bilateral hydroureteronephrosis. Then he presented at our clinic with an opening at his perineum. He has been complaining of wetness for six weeks. In physical examination anterior wall of the bladderand tumoral lesion were seen through the perineal hole. General surgeons evaluated the patient as inoperablerelapsing tumor. Bilaterally laparoscopic ureter ligation was performed to finish his wetness complaint. Bilateral laparoscopic ligation makes patient relieved significantly.Although urine drainage through the hole was stopped secretions from local tissues caused not to relievethe complaints of patient completely. Laparoscopic retroperitoneoscopic bilateral ureter ligation may be a palliativetreatment option for these patients.

Abstract Objective: Orthodontists do not perform surgical procedures, nevertheless they are obliged to practice appropriate sterilization techniques to prevent cross-infection. This is also important from an ethical and legal point of view. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the compliance of orthodontists to infection control procedures in Turkey.
Methods: A questionnaire with 36 items was delivered by e-mail to a total of 1152 orthodontists/residents between October 2014 and March 2015 by the Turkish Orthodontic Society. Various data from surveys were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics 22 software.
Results: The questionnaire was completed by 130 (11.28%) respondents. 95.4% of the orthodontists were immunized against hepatitis B. The usage rates of type B autoclave, non-type B autoclave, and dry-heat sterilizer were 40%, 17.7%, and 16.9%, respectively. A total of 24.6% of the orthodontists used disinfectant solutions for the sterilization of hand instruments and pliers; the rate of using disinfectants for the sterilization of dental handpieces was found to be higher (56.9%).
Conclusion: The infection control procedures in the field of orthodontics must be improved in Turkey. Training on compliance with the infection control principles should be included in education programs, and these programs should be repeated on a regular basis.

Abstract Objective: Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) elimination in low-income countries is a major aim of public health endeavors, due to poor vaccination status, lack of antenatal care, and unhygienic birth practices. The objective of this study, thus, was to assess the present state and factors associated with maternal tetanus toxoid (TT) vaccination in Pakistan.
Methods: Overall, 80 pregnant women (26 ± 4 y) during their last trimester were recruited from the district hospital Khanewal, Pakistan. The prevalence of vaccination was ascertained through clinical interviews and examination of health records from each participant. A questionnaire-based interview was conducted to assess the education level, antenatal visits, and sociodemographic variables related to vaccination coverage. A generalized linear model was used for statistical analyses.
Results: Seventy-nine percent of pregnant women were vaccinated with two doses of TT vaccine, while 16% of women were unvaccinated. Overall, 66% of pregnant women received two or more antenatal visits. Two and more than two antenatal visits during pregnancy were associated with significantly increased odds ratios for sufficient TT vaccination (OR = 1.60, CI [95%] 1.34-1.92 and OR = 1.61, CI [95%] 1.32-1.97, respectively) as compared to no or only one antenatal visit.
Conclusion: Regular antenatal care can improve vaccination coverage during pregnancy. Hence, reducing barriers for visiting antenatal care facilities could be key to reach the goal for MNT elimination.
