    Abstract The aggregated risk of recurrent stroke in stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients carrying CYP2C19 LoF alleles who take clopidogrel has not been investigated recently, and the available research is limited. This study aimed to perform an updated meta-analysis to assess the association between CYP2C19 LoF alleles and the risk of recurrent stroke in patients taking clopidogrel. Databases were searched for the literature on eligible studies. The end points were recurrent stroke, composite vascular events, and bleeding events. Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated using RevMan software, where p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Patients carrying CYP2C19 LoF alleles who were treated with clopidogrel had a significantly increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke compared with non-carriers (OR 2.18, 96% CI 1.80-2.63; p < 0.00001). The risk of recurrent stroke was only significantly different in Asian patients (OR 2.29, 96% CI 1.88-2.80; p < 0.00001) but not in patients of other ethnicities; however, there were a limited number of studies in other ethnic groups. Both observational studies (OR 2.83, 96% CI 2.20-3.65; p < 0.00001) and RCTs (OR 1.48, 96% CI 1.10-1.98; p = 0.009) found associations with a significantly increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke. Asian stroke patients or TIA patients carrying CYP2C19 LoF alleles and taking clopidogrel were at a significantly higher risk of recurrent ischemic stroke than non-carriers. Significantly increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke was found in both observational studies and RCTs.

    Abstract Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, higher education all over the world is increasingly reliant on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which creates several opportunities and problems, especially in the field of engineering education. One of the significant aspects that needs to be bought to the academic attention is how teachers' use of ICT in engineering education has been transformed due to this pandemic. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate views, and practices that define varying conceptions of engineering university teachers’ use of ICT in their teaching. Phenomenography, an emerging research approach in engineering education was used as a theoretical and methodological underpinning. A cohort of 14 teachers was selected from two universities in Bangladesh to participate in a semi-structured in-depth interview. The findings revealed five qualitatively different categories of description such as: imparting information, transmitting structured knowledge, offering guided learning, engaging students toward practice and engaging students toward innovation. Relationships among the categories of description revealed four dimensions of variation such as: purpose of using ICT in engineering teaching, role of a teacher, role of a student and TPACK components. The study further found that ICT-usage underpins teacher’s pedagogical approach to teaching engineering subjects and therefore provides useful information for university policy makers, teachers and curriculum designers toward quality teaching and learning. A quantitative investigation to determine the impact of the pedagogical approaches to teaching underpinned by ICT-use in engineering education is recommended.

    Abstract Energy drinks and mango juice are popular beverages. Apart from the natural ingredients and some additives present in these drinks, sugar is an important component of both. It has been established that, other than providing sweetness, sugars are potent to bring about health consequences for their consumers. Sweeteners, both artificial (aspartame, sodium cyclamate, and saccharin) and natural (sucrose), were our centers of interest. This study aimed to determine the presence and levels of these sweeteners in energy drinks and mango juice. Spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the concentration of the mentioned sugars.     Abstract Introduction: To reduce the high prevalence of cervical cancers among the Bangladeshi women, the Government of Bangladesh established a national cervical cancer screening programme in 2005 for women aged 30 to 60 years. The District Health Information System Version 2 (DHIS2) based electronic aggregated data collection system is used since the year 2013. This study summarises data from the year 2014 to 2022 to assess the effectiveness of the electronic data collection system in understanding the outcome of the screening programme.
    Methods: This is a descriptive study based on secondary data extracted in MS Excel from the DHIS2-based electronic repository of the national cervical cancer screening programme of Bangladesh. The respondents were women aged 30-60 years, screened for cervical cancer using VIA (Visual Inspection of cervix with Acetic acid) method in 465 government health facilities. The data were collected on the participants' residential location, month and year of screening, name and type of health facilities performing VIA, and VIA screening results.
    Results: The national screening programme reported a total 3.36 million VIA tests from 465 government hospitals in 8 years (2014 to 2022). The national average VIA-positivity rate was 3.6%, which varied from 1.4 to 9.5% among the districts. This national screening programme witnessed an exponential growth, year after year, with 83.3% increase in VIA test from 2014 to 2022. The primary and the secondary care hospitals were the highest collective contributors of VIA tests (86.2%) and positive cases (77.8%). The VIA-positivity rates in different hospital types varied widely, 7.0% in the medical university hospital, 5.7% in the medical college hospitals, 3.9% in the district/general hospitals, and 3.0% in the upazila health complexes.
    Conclusions: A national cervical cancer screening programme using VIA method and a DHIS2-based electronic data collection backbone, is effective, sustainable, and useful to understand the screening coverage, VIA positivity rate and geographic distribution of the participants and case load to initiate policy recommendations and actions. Decentralization of the screening programme and more efforts at the primary and secondary care level is required to increase screening performances.

    Abstract Copper (Cu), an essential micronutrient, can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) at its supra-optimal level in living cells as a transition metal, thus producing oxidative stress in plants. Therefore, protecting plants from Cu-induced oxidative stress via the exogenous application of chemical substances, particularly L-glutamic acid (L-Glu), could be a viable strategy for mitigating the toxicity of Cu. The aim of our present study was to investigate how ʟ-Glu protects lentil seedlings from oxidative stress produced by toxic Cu and allows them to survive under Cu toxicity. The results exhibited that when lentil seedlings were exposed to excessive Cu, their growth was inhibited and their biomass decreased due to an increase in Cu accumulation and translocation to the root, shoot, and leaves. Exposure to toxic Cu also depleted photosynthetic pigments, imbalanced water content, and other essential nutrients, increased oxidative stress, and reduced enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. However, pre-treatment of ʟ-Glu improved the phenotypic appearance of lentil seedlings, which was distinctly evidenced by higher biomass production, maintenance of water balance, and an increase in photosynthetic pigments when exposed to toxic Cu. ʟ-Glu also protected the seedlings from Cu-induced oxidative stress by reducing the oxidative stress marker, specifically by the efficient action of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, particularly ascorbate, catalase, monodehydroascorbate, and glutathione peroxidase and maintaining redox balance. Furthermore, ʟ-Glu assisted in maintaining the homeostasis of Cu and other nutrient in the roots, shoots, and leaves of lentil. Collectively, our results provide evidence of the mechanism of ʟ-Glu-mediated protective role in lentil against Cu toxicity, thus proposed as a potential chemical for managing Cu toxicity not only in lentil but also other plants.

    Abstract Incorporating appropriate pedagogical strategies has been instrumental in the development of a favorable learning environment for holistic learning, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. However, there is growing evidence of the need to advance the existing methods, through more robust and comprehensive fieldwork grounded in design study. It has been shown that the lack of guidance in lesson planning using variation theory is also thought to require particular attention, as the accuracy of the student learning relies significantly on the planning of the lesson. However, little research has outlined the strategy to be followed for incorporating variation theory. This article proposes a method of preparing lesson plans to systematically implement the variation theory in STEM classrooms. The method seeks to design and implement current techniques as follows:•According to variation theory, teachers must create the necessary conditions for learning for the students to recognize what they are expected to learn.•To create the necessary conditions for learning, teachers define the key aspects of the topic to be covered and use different patterns of variations in teaching those contents, such as contrast, separation, generalization, and fusion.•Finally, teachers focus on the key aspects one by one or simultaneously to grab students' attention.
