Abstract The commercial value of green raisins produced by the shade-air drying in Liang-fang was 2–3 times as high as that of yellow-brown raisins. This study systematically evaluated the effect of the temperature, humidity, and light of sun drying and shade-air drying on raisins. The sugar, acids, texture and color parament of raisins were compared with different drying conditions. The results indicated that shade-air drying can offer a dark and conducive light environment with the maximum temperature below 40 °C, and a lower humidity by segregating rainwater during the day as well. Then, the contents of acids of raisins in sun drying were lower compared with the shade-air drying and had a lower hardness and a* values of raisins. In summary, low light and ultraviolet intensity, suitable temperature and appropriate humidity environments were the basal and key factors for the formation of the green raisins. The present study not only revealed the crucial factors during shade-air drying in Liang-fang in Turpan, but also provided a scientific basis for improving the Liang-fang conditions and producing green raisins in other regions.

Abstract Backgrounds: Gao-Liang-Huo decoction (GLH), a traditional Chinese medicine consisting of gao liangjiang (the roots or tubers of Alpinia offinarum Hance) and guang huoxiang (the aerial parts of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth.), has been shown an effective therapeutic efficacy for ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the active compounds and underlying mechanisms involved in GLH treatment of UC remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the pharmacological mechanism of GLH on UC using an integrated strategy of metabolomics and network pharmacology. Methods: The experimental mice UC model was induced using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). The disease activity index (DAI), colonic mucosa damage index (CMDI), biochemical assays, and histopathological analysis were used to evaluate the pharmacological effect of GLH. The LC/MS-based metabolomics was used for investigation of serum metabolites and metabolic pathways regulated by GLH. The potential targets and pathways of the active compounds in GLH were further explored using network pharmacology. Finally, the underlying mechanism of GLH on UC was verified by molecular docking and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Results: The pharmacological experiments showed that GLH significantly ameliorated the DAI, CMDI, MDA, MPO, and histopathological changes in DSS-induced UC. The 15 metabolites were identified by metabolomics, such as L-tryptophan, taurocholic acid, glycocholic acid, 3-indolebutyric acid, and tryptophol. These metabolites were found to be enriched in tryptophan metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, and citrate cycle (TCA cycle). The results of network pharmacology revealed the key targets, such as PIK3CA, PIK3R1, JAK1, JAK2, and JAK3, mainly involved in the PI3K-AKT, JAK-STAT, and T-cell receptor signaling pathways. Molecular docking showed high affinity interaction of quercetin, isorhamnrtin, poriferast-5-en-3beta-ol, 1,7-diphenyl-5-hydroxy-3-heptanone, and medicarpin with PIK3CA, PIK3R1, JAK1, JAK2, and JAK3, respectively. Finally, the immunohistochemistry ...

Abstract: Liang-Ge-San (LGS) is a classic formula in traditional Chinese medicine, which is widely used ...

Abstract Liang-Ge-San (LGS) is a classic formula in traditional Chinese medicine, which is widely used to treat acute lung injury (ALI), pharyngitis and amygdalitis in clinic. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly defined. In this study, we discovered that LGS exerted potent anti-inflammatory effects in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation. We found that LGS significantly depressed the production of IL-6 and TNF-α in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. The degradation and phosphorylation of IκBα and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 were also inhibited. Moreover, LGS activated α7 nicotinic cholinergic receptor (α7nAchR). The blockage of α7nAchR by selective inhibitor methyllycaconitine (MLA) or α7nAchR siRNA attenuated the inhibitory effects of LGS on IκBα, NF-κB p65, IL-6 and TNF-α. Critically, LGS significantly inhibited inflammation in LPS-induced ALI rats through the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway. However, these protective effects could be counteracted by the treatment of MLA. Taken together, we first demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects of LGS both in vitro and in vivo through cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. The study provides a rationale for the clinical application of LGS as an anti-inflammatory agent and supports the critical role of cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway in inflammation.

Abstract Objective: To observe the in vivo effect of traditional chinese medicine (TCM) Shu-Gan-Liang-Xue (SGLX) decoction on estrogen in vivo in mice.
Methods: Mice were randomly divided into control, tamoxifen (TAM), SGLX and SGLX + TAM groups. After SGLX decoction had been given to mice for 21 days, the serum hormone level of mice was tested by radioimmunological method, uterine weight index was obtained by uterine weight divided by body weight. Endometrial change was pathologically observed.
Results: SGLX decoction reduced the level of serum estrogen more than the control with significant difference (P < 0.001). Uterine weight index was more lowered in the SGLX group than the control giving a difference but not significant. The endometrium in the SGLX group showed no change when compared with that of the control, but the SGLX + TAM group showed slightly more endometrial hyperplasia than the TAM group.
Conclusion: SGLX decoction, having synergistic effect on TAM, can reduce serum hormone level and alleviate the endometrial hypertrophy side effect of TAM.
