Abstract Objectives: Monocyte distribution width (MDW) is a new biomarker used as an early indicator of sepsis (ESId). It is often aids in the identification of patients who may develop sepsis. This study aims to establish the MDW reference interval (RI) within the healthy population of blood donors using EDTA-K
Methods: A total of 274 samples obtained from healthy donors were analyzed. MDW measurements were taken within 2 h post-extraction. The RI was estimated using various statistical methodologies, including the recommended CLSI EP28-A3c guideline, non-parametric and robust methods, along with the Harrell-Davis bootstrap method applied to the entire sample.
    Results: The RI estimated through non-parametric method was 14.77 CI90 % (14.36-14.97)-21.13 CI90 % (20.89-21.68); RI using the robust method was 15.64-19.05 and RI using the Harrell-Davis bootstrap method was 14.73 CI90 % (14.53-14.92)-21.14 CI90 % (20.88-21.40).
Conclusions: Based on clinical applicability, we recommend utilizing the RI derived from the non-parametric method, aligning with the CLSI recommendations. Furthermore, we consider that our results can be taken as a reference in other laboratories that serve a population similar to our study cohort.

Abstract L'Albufera Natural Park (Valencia, Spain) is a protected wetland of international significance that provides critical habitats to endemic and threatened bird and plant species. This study aims to use multiple cross-validation techniques to generate an accurate estimation of the environmental risk of organic contaminants (OCs) in an internationally important coastal wetland, to identify compounds of concern and their potential sources and risk factors. Microporous polyethylene tube (MPT) passive samplers were deployed at 12 locations across L'Albufera Natural Park with concurrent grab samples collected. A subset of MPT samplers were also analysed by an additional laboratory in Australia to widen the range of contaminants and assess interlaboratory reproducibility of results. Forty-three pesticides, 20 pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), 20 per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 4 organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) were detected in the MPT samplers. The fungicides tebuconazole and difenoconazole were detected at the highest concentrations in passive samplers (maximum concentrations, 153 ng sampler

Abstract Background: This article aims to analyze levels of knowledge and behavior about diabetic foot care and prevention in persons with diabetes according to International Working Group (IWGDF) risk stratification system.
Methods: A descriptive study in 83 persons with diabetes at different level of risk for foot ulceration (IWGDF risk 0-3). A previously validated questionnaire, the PIN Questionnaire, was used to analyze their levels of understanding of foot complications. Participants were responded on a 5-point Likert scale.
Results: IWGDF-3 risk patients knew that good circulation and absence of polyneuropathy in their feet were related to healthy feet relative to the other groups (19.6 ± 2.7, p<.001 and 14.2 ± 0.7, p<.001 respectively). Additionally, they knew that a foot ulcer (DFU) on their feet will not be painful relative to other groups (6.6 ± 2.8, p<.001). High-risk patients knew which physical causes could affect the development of a DFU (18 ± 1.4, p<.001) and that foot self-care and medical control could prevent DFU appearance (23.4 ± 2.15, p<.001 and 13.9 ± 0.9, p<.001 respectively).
Conclusion: IWGDF-3 patients knew the natural progression of diabetes foot complications and how to prevent them. Clinicians should focus their efforts and educate diabetes at lower risk of foot ulcer.
