Agricultural automation is the emerging technologies which heavily rely on computer-integrated management and advanced control systems. The tedious farming tasks had been taken over by agricultural machines in last century, in new millennium, computer-aided systems, automation, and robotics has been applied to precisely manage agricultural production system. With agricultural automation technologies, sustainable agriculture is being developed based on efficient use of land, increased conservation of water, fertilizer and energy resources. The agricultural automation technologies refer to related areas in sensing & perception, reasoning & learning, data communication, and task planning & execution. Since the literature on this diverse subject is widely scattered, it is necessary to review current status and capture the future challenges through a comprehensive monograph. In this book we focus on agricultural automation and provide critical reviews of advanced control technologies, their merits and limitations, application areas and research opportunities for further development. This collection thus serves as an authoritative treatise that can help researchers, engineers, educators, and students in the field of sensing, control, and automation technologies for production agriculture.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to develop an automated detection schema for otosclerosis with interpretable deep learning using temporal bone computed tomography images.
Methods: With approval from the institutional review board, we retrospectively analyzed high-resolution computed tomography scans of the temporal bone of 182 participants with otosclerosis (67 male subjects and 115 female subjects; average age, 36.42 years) and 157 participants without otosclerosis (52 male subjects and 102 female subjects; average age, 30.61 years) using deep learning. Transfer learning with the pretrained VGG19, Mask RCNN, and EfficientNet models was used. In addition, 3 clinical experts compared the system's performance by reading the same computed tomography images for a subset of 35 unseen subjects. An area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and a saliency map were used to further evaluate the diagnostic performance.
Results: In prospective unseen test data, the diagnostic performance of the automatically interpretable otosclerosis detection system at the optimal threshold was 0.97 and 0.98 for sensitivity and specificity, respectively. In comparison with the clinical acumen of otolaryngologists at P < 0.05, the proposed system was not significantly different. Moreover, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the proposed system was 0.99, indicating satisfactory diagnostic accuracy.
Conclusion: Our research develops and evaluates a deep learning system that detects otosclerosis at a level comparable with clinical otolaryngologists. Our system is an effective schema for the differential diagnosis of otosclerosis in computed tomography examinations.

Abstract Introduction: For decades, radiofrequency (RF)-induced tissue fusion has garnered great attention due to its potential to replace sutures and staples for anastomosis of tissue reconstruction. However, the complexities of achieving high bonding strength and reducing excessive thermal damage present substantial limitations of existing fusion devices.
Materials and methods: This study proposed a discrete linkage-type electrode to carry out
Results: The burst pressure and shear strength of anastomotic tissue can reach 62.2 ± 3.08 mmHg and 8.73 ± 1.11N, respectively, when the pressure, power and duration are 995 kPa, 160 W and 13 s, and the thermal damage can be controlled within limits. Histopathological and ultrastructural observation indicate that an intact and fully fused stomas with collagenic crosslink can be formed.
Conclusion: The discrete linkage-type electrode presents favorable efficiency and security in RF-induced tissue fusion, and these results are informative to the design of electrosurgical medical devices with controllable pressure and energy delivery.

Abstract To classify early endometrial cancer (EC) on sagittal T2-weighted images (T2WI) by determining the depth of myometrial infiltration (MI) using a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) method based on a multi-stage deep learning (DL) model. This study retrospectively investigated 154 patients with pathologically proven early EC at the institution between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2020. Of these patients, 75 were in the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IA and 79 were in FIGO stage IB. An SSD-based detection model and an Attention U-net-based segmentation model were trained to select, crop, and segment magnetic resonance imaging (MRl) images. Then, an ellipse fitting algorithm was used to generate a uterine cavity line (UCL) to obtain MI depth for classification. In the independent test datasets, the uterus and tumor detection model achieves an average precision rate of 98.70% and 87.93%, respectively. Selecting the optimal MRI slices method yields an accuracy of 97.83%. The uterus and tumor segmentation model with mean IOU of 0.738 and 0.655, mean PA of 0.867 and 0.749, and mean DSC of 0.845 and 0.779, respectively. Finally, the CAD method based on the calculated MI depth reaches an accuracy of 86.9%, a sensitivity of 81.8%, and a specificity of 91.7% for early EC classification. In this study, the CAD method implements an end-to-end early EC classification and is found to be on par with radiologists in terms of performance. It is more intuitive and interpretable than previous DL-based CAD methods.
