Abstract Introduction: The purpose of this case series was to review a rare subset of tumors known as gastric lipomas, which are typically found incidentally. The motivation for this study arose from the identification of 2 cases within our institution in a short period.
Case presentation: The study involved a review of the diagnosis and management of 2 patients presenting with gastric lipomas at our institution after symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding. With the advent of new radiologic investigations such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging and advances in endoscopy, there are new approaches to identifying and managing these tumors. On further evaluation of the literature, we found that despite the availability of minimally invasive endoscopic techniques such as mucosal resection and submucosal dissection in the setting of large tumors, most patients tend to have to resort to surgical management.
Conclusion: This case series underscores the rarity of gastric lipomas and their often-incidental discovery. Further investigation into endoscopic approaches for managing these tumors is needed, and additionally, there is a need to explore a potential association between gastric lipomas and malignancy, as chronic inflammation of the overlying mucosa may play a significant role.

Abstract Background: Metastatic endometrial cancer (mEC) continues to have a poor prognosis despite the introduction of several novel therapies including immune checkpoints inhibitors. Dendritic cell (DC) vaccination is known to be a safe immunotherapeutic modality that can induce immunological and clinical responses in patients with solid tumors. Platinum-based chemotherapy is known to act synergistically with immunotherapy by selectively depleting suppressive immune cells. Therefore, we investigated the immunological efficacy of combined chemoimmunotherapy with an autologous DC vaccine and carboplatin/paclitaxel chemotherapy.
Study design: This is a prospective, exploratory, single-arm phase I/II study (NCT04212377) in 7 patients with mEC. The DC vaccine consisted of blood-derived conventional and plasmacytoid dendritic cells, loaded with known mEC antigens Mucin-1 and Survivin. Chemotherapy consisted of carboplatin/paclitaxel, given weekly for 6 cycles and three-weekly for 3 cycles. The primary endpoint was immunological vaccine efficacy; secondary endpoints were safety and feasibility.
Results: Production of DC vaccines was successful in five out of seven patients. These five patients started study treatment and all were able to complete the entire treatment schedule. Antigen-specific responses could be demonstrated in two of the five patients who were treated. All patients had at least one adverse event grade 3 or higher. Treatment-related adverse events grade ≥3 were related to chemotherapy rather than DC vaccination; neutropenia was most common. Suppressive myeloid cells were selectively depleted in peripheral blood after chemotherapy.
Conclusion: DC vaccination can be safely combined with carboplatin/paclitaxel in patients with metastatic endometrial cancer and induces antigen-specific responses in a minority of patients. Longitudinal immunological phenotyping is suggestive of a synergistic effect of the combination.

Abstract Background: Patients treated for lung cancer (LC) often experience locoregional failure after initial treatment. Due to technological advances, thoracic reirradiation (re-RT) has become a viable treatment option. We sought to investigate the use of thoracic re-RT in LC patients over a time period characterized by technological advances in a large, multi-center cohort.
Methods and materials: LC patients treated with thoracic re-RT in two University Hospitals from 2010-2020 were identified. Clinical variables and RT data were extracted from the medical records and treatment planning systems. Overall survival (OS) was calculated from the last day of re-RT until death or last follow up.
Results: 296 patients (small cell LC n=30, non-small cell LC n=266) were included. Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy was the RT technique used most frequently (63%), and 86% of all patients were referred for re-RT with palliative treatment intent. During the second half of the study period, the use of thoracic re-RT increased in general, more patients received curative re-RT, and there was an increased use of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Median time between initial RT and re-RT was 18 months (range 1-213 months). Only 83/296 patients had combined treatment plans that allowed for registration of combined doses to organs at risk (OAR). Most of the combined doses to OAR were below recommendations from guidelines. Multivariate analysis showed superior OS (p<0.05) in patients treated with curative intent, SBRT or intensity modulated radiation therapy or had excellent performance status prior to re-RT.
Conclusions: The use of re-RT increased in the second half of the study period, although 2020 did not follow the trend. The use of SBRT and IMRT became more frequent over the years, yet the majority received palliative re-RT. Combined dose plans were only created for one third of the patients.

Abstract The dam failure of the Córrego do Feijão Mine (CFM) located in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, killed at least 278 people. In addition, large extensions of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems were destroyed, directly compromising the environmental and socioeconomic quality of the region. This study assessed the pollution and human health risks of soils impacted by the tailing spill of the CFM dam, along a sample perimeter of approximately 200 km. Based on potential ecological risk and pollution load indices, the enrichments of Cd, As, Hg, Cu, Pb and Ni in soils indicated that the Brumadinho, Mário Campos, Betim and São Joaquim de Bicas municipalities were the most affected areas by the broken dam. Restorative and reparative actions must be urgently carried out in these areas. For all contaminated areas, the children's group indicated an exacerbated propensity to the development of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic diseases, mainly through the ingestion pathway. Toxicological risk assessments, including acute, chronic and genotoxic effects, on people living and working in mining areas should be a priority for public management and mining companies to ensure effective environmental measures that do not harm human health and well-being over time.

Abstract Pediatric adrenal tumors are uncommon entities that are frequently occult and identified incidentally or by recognizing symptoms related to hormone overproduction. They often have a genetic underpinning, arise from the medulla or cortex, can be malignant or benign, and require precise diagnostic algorithms. However, pseudotumors must also be a diagnostic consideration. Therapeutic interventions and plans are tumor dependent, but surgery is a cornerstone of treatment. Ongoing surveillance after treatment, regardless of malignant determination, is of utmost importance as well.

Abstract Very recently, the genome of the modern durum wheat cv. Svevo was fully sequenced, and its assembly is publicly available. So, we exploited the opportunity to carry out an in-depth study for the systematic characterization of the γ-gliadin gene family in the cv. Svevo by combining a bioinformatic approach with transcript and protein analysis. We found that the γ-gliadin family consists of nine genes that include seven functional genes and two pseudogenes. Abstract Abstract: Post-traumatic gas gangrene is a rare but potentially life-threa-tening condition due to soft tissues infection by Clostridium species. These anaerobic microaerophile bacteria are highly resistant to external insults related to their ability to produce spores, which can survive on any surface for long periods. Under certain conditions suitable for proliferation (such as in ischemic tissues), bacteria produce many to-xins. In particular, Clostridium perfringens type A represents the most frequent cause of traumatic gas gangrene nowadays. It produces toxins responsible for thrombotic and necrotic phenomena in soft tissues and rapid disease diffusion to muscles. Clinical manifestations usually start as local edema and emphysema but rapidly evolve into a septic state. Prognosis is poor in 20-30% of cases, and death occurs due to multiorgan failure. Because of its rapid evolution, clinical diagnosis is not always obtained, thus determining the need for post-mortem investigation. This case report presents a rare case of fulminant gas gangrene due to Clostridium Perfrigens infection developed after trau-matic injury. Despite the prompt antibiotic administration and surgical intervention on the site of trauma, gas gangrene rapidly evolved into septic shock, leading to the patient's death. Post-mortem investigations were conducted and confirmed multiorgan failure as the cause of death. Cultural analysis was also performed but showed no bacterial growth. Negativity on culture tests should be related to antibiotic administration before blood sampling and bacterial characteristics. In such cases, the correct identification of the cause of death was only possible following a careful and detailed forensic methodological approach.
