Abstract We describe two cases of stones with unusual radiological characteristics in transplanted kidneys that originated from a blood clot as the nidus for lithogenesis. Both patients presented years after renal transplant, with gross haematuria. CT of the urinary tract showed a stone with a peripheral hyperdense shell (Hounsfield unit, HU >500) and a radiolucent centre (HU <100). Both patients underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy successfully.Stone analysis showed that the outer shell was calcium oxalate monohydrate and further examination of the stone in the second case confirmed an inner layer of organised clot material. Although the management of these clot stones is similar to that of other types of stones, clinicians should be aware of such a phenomenon and investigate the patients for the possibility of stone formation after haematuria, especially in allograft kidneys.

Abstract Mutations in CSA and CSB proteins cause Cockayne syndrome, a rare genetic neurodevelopment disorder. Alongside their demonstrated roles in DNA repair and transcription, these two proteins have recently been discovered to regulate cytokinesis, the final stage of the cell division. This last finding allowed, for the first time, to highlight an extranuclear localization of CS proteins, beyond the one already known at mitochondria. In this study, we demonstrated an additional role for CSA protein being recruited at centrosomes in a strictly determined step of mitosis, which ranges from pro-metaphase until metaphase exit. Centrosomal CSA exerts its function in specifically targeting the pool of centrosomal Cyclin B1 for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Interestingly, a lack of CSA recruitment at centrosomes does not affect Cyclin B1 centrosomal localization but, instead, it causes its lasting centrosomal permanence, thus inducing Caspase 3 activation and apoptosis. The discovery of this unveiled before CSA recruitment at centrosomes opens a new and promising scenario for the understanding of some of the complex and different clinical aspects of Cockayne Syndrome.

Abstract Plants have always been able to adapt to climate change by reacting through various responses, mainly at the phenological level. The aim of this work is to investigate the behavior of specific tree species located in two phenological gardens in central Italy in relation to the temperature increases recorded in recent years. Specifically, four main phenological phases, BBCH_11, BBCH_19, BBCH_91, and BBCH_65, were monitored during a 14-year time period. The data of the weeks corresponding to the first appearance of each phenological phase and the respective heat accumulations for each species were cross-referenced with the meteorological data recorded by the stations in the two considered areas. Based on average temperature, calculated over reference periods, the species were divided by creating "warm" year groups and "cold" year groups so as to better highlight any differences in the behavior of the same species. In addition, a strong correlation was shown between the maximum temperatures in February and the advances of phenological phases BBCH_11 and BBCH_65. Most of the tree species have shown strong adaptation to climate warming, changing the period of occurrence of the phases themselves.
