Abstract This longitudinal study attempted to identify changes in employment status and overall health status. The participants were workers who had experienced work-related injuries in the past. In this study, we used the Panel Study of Workers' Compensation Insurance from 2013 to 2017. This study utilized propensity score matching for a quasi-experimental design study of the first year to exclude the effects of the confounding variables and exclude the effect of employment status, which is the main independent variable. After applying propensity score matching the research subjects totaled 1070. Changes in employment status were found to have a negative effect on overall health status. This raises new implications for existing industrial accident-related support policies. Thus, it is considered that the scope should be expanded from policies related to re-employment of workers after an industrial accident to improving quality of life through maintaining employment from a long-term perspective. The notable point of this study was to apply the PSM methods. By applying PSM, we clearly identified the effect of changes in employment status on health status.

Abstract Objective: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is rare in pregnancy and can be attributed to pregnancy-induced changes in hormone levels that increase thrombogenic risk and alter cochlear microcirculation with consequent development of sudden deafness. The study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with SSNHL in pregnant South Korean.
Methods: A retrospective study of the incidence and risk factors associated with SSNHL before pregnancy enrolled 401,470 Korean women who delivered between January 2010 and December 2014. All participants underwent a pre-pregnancy national health screening examination through the National Health Insurance Corporation. We investigated the risk factors in 459 pregnant women with sudden sensorineural hearing loss and in 401,011 pregnant women without SSNHL through the pre-pregnancy national health screening examination and adverse perinatal outcome.
Results: No statistically significant intergroup differences were observed in the maternal age, parity, method of delivery, gestational age at delivery, body mass index, blood pressure, as well as fasting blood glucose and cholesterol levels. After adjusting for maternal age, the pre-pregnancy body mass index was associated with an increased risk of sensorineural hearing loss in pregnancy (adjusted odds ratio 1.52, 95% confidence interval 1.04-2.22). The sensorineural hearing loss did not increase the risk for gestational hypertension, preterm birth (<37 weeks' gestation), small- and large-for-gestational-age infants, postpartum hemorrhage, placenta previa, and placental abruption.
Conclusion: SSNHL can occur throughout pregnancy and is associated with maternal pre-pregnancy obesity. Notably, it does not increase risks during delivery or cause adverse perinatal outcomes.

Abstract We present coupled equations of motion for correlated electron-nuclear dynamics for real-space and real-time propagation with a proper electron-nuclear correlation (ENC) from the exact factorization. Since the original ENC term from the exact factorization is non-Hermitian, the numerical instability arises as we propagate an electronic wave function. In this paper, we propose a Hermitian-type ENC term which depends on the electron density matrix and the nuclear quantum momentum. Moreover, we show that the Hermitian property of the electron-nuclear correlation term can capture quantum (de)coherence with a stable numerical real-space and real-time propagation. As an application, we demonstrate a real-space and real-time propagation of an electronic wave function coupled to trajectory-based nuclear motion for a one-dimensional model Hamiltonian. Our approach can capture nonadiabatic phenomena as well as quantum decoherence in excited state molecular dynamics. In addition, we propose a scheme to extend the current approach to many-body electronic states based on real-time time-dependent density functional theory, testing the nonadiabatic dynamics of a simple molecular system.

Abstract Paratuberculosis (PTB) is a chronic contagious granulomatous enteritis of wild and domestic ruminants caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP). PTB causes considerable economic losses to the dairy industry through decreased milk production and premature culling. PTB-affected cattle undergo a subclinical stage without clinical signs and initiate fecal shedding of MAP into the environment. Current diagnostic tools have low sensitivity for the detection of subclinical PTB infection. Therefore, alternative diagnostic tools are required to improve the diagnostic sensitivity of subclinical PTB infection. In this study, we performed ELISA for three previously identified host biomarkers (fetuin, alpha-1-acid glycoprotein, and apolipoprotein) and analyzed their diagnostic performance with conventional PTB diagnostic methods. We observed that serum fetuin levels were significantly lowered in the subclinical shedder and clinical shedder groups than in the healthy control group, indicating its potential utility as a diagnostic biomarker for bovine PTB. Also, fetuin showed an excellent discriminatory power with an AUC = 0.949, a sensitivity of 92.6%, and a specificity of 94.4% for the detection of subclinical MAP infection. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that fetuin could be used as a diagnostic biomarker for enhancing the diagnostic sensitivity for the detection of subclinical MAP infections that are difficult to detect based on current diagnostic methods.

Abstract Poor oral health is not only associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease but adverse pregnancy outcomes. However the influence of dental caries on pregnancy is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between dental caries and adverse pregnancy outcomes and the effect of treatment for dental caries on adverse pregnancy outcomes. Primiparas who delivered a singleton between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2014 and underwent both general health examination and oral health examination during a National Korea Health Screening Examination within 1 year of pregnancy were eligible. The data of the women who met the inclusion criteria were linked to the data of their offspring contained within the National Korea Health Screening Program for Infants and Children database. Among 120,622 women who delivered during the study period, 28,623 (23.7%) women had dental caries. Among them, 4,741 (16.6%) women were treated for dental caries after diagnosis. In a multivariable analysis, women with dental caries had an increased risk of delivering large-for-gestational-age infants (odds ratio, 1.15; 95% confidence interval, 1.07, 1.23) compared to those without dental caries. When women with dental caries were divided on the basis of the treatment of dental caries, women with dental caries but no treatment had an increased risk of delivering large-for-gestational-age infants (odds ratio, 1.15; 95% confidence interval, 1.06, 1.24); conversely, there was no increased risk in women with dental caries and treatment compared with those without. Dental caries and its treatment were not associated with preterm birth and preeclampsia. Untreated dental caries was not associated with preterm birth or preeclampsia but with the risk of delivering large-for-gestational-age infants. These whole observation may be attributed to the various characteristics of mothers who develop dental caries are not treated.

Abstract Introduction: It is well-known that suicide and excess mortality are high in patients with psychiatric illnesses and this has long been an important issue in the field of mental health. We aim to investigate suicide and other-cause deaths in patients with psychiatric illnesses.
Methods: This retrospective, population-based cohort was based on the National Health Insurance claims data of the first admission with a principal diagnosis of major psychiatric disorder between 2010 and 2011, and followed up to 2020. A total of 95,855 participants were enrolled. Suicide and other-cause mortality were assessed through Log-rank test and Kaplan-Meier curve.
Results: There were 95,855 patients, with an average age of 48.2 years. The number of suicide deaths and other-cause deaths was 2408 (288.1 per 100,000 person-years) and 15,192 (1817.6 per 100,000 person-years), respectively. The rate of healthcare utilization prior to suicide was 95.0 %, and the rate of utilization prior to one week before suicide was 43.5 %. The risk of suicide was highest in patients with depression, followed by alcohol use disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
Conclusions: This study revealed various factors related to healthcare utilization associated with suicide and other-cause deaths in psychiatric patients. Educating frontline healthcare professionals, psychiatrists, emergency department personnel, and general practice doctors using such as Gatekeeper program is important to prevent suicides.
