Abstract This series of studies developed a nanographene modified dyeable polypropylene yarn with far-infrared properties making it suitable for winter clothing fabrics. In this paper, part II, the dyeable polypropylene granules developed in part I are used as a base material and, with the addition of graphene nanopowder, melt-mixed and melt-spun to produce 75 d/24 f fully drawn yarn. The physical properties of the yarn, namely, yarn count, tensile strength, elongation at break, far-infrared emissivity, and far-infrared temperature rise, are investigated, and the impact of the melt-spinning process parameters, namely, graphene nanopowder content, mold temperature, melt temperature, gear pump speed, hot roller speed and take-up speed on the quality of the yarn, is determined. The Taguchi method, combined with gray relational analysis, is used to design experiments through which an optimal set of melt-spinning process parameters maximizing the multi-characteristic quality of the yarn is obtained. This optimized nanographene modified dyeable polypropylene yarn has a tensile strength of 3.5 g/d, elongation at break of 41.0%, yarn count of 75.3 d, far-infrared emissivity of 82%, far-infrared temperature rise of 21.0°C, washing fastness grade of 3–4 and surface resistance of 3 × 10⁸ Ω.

Abstract: ... d, tensile strength of 3.3 g/d, and an elongation at break increased from 23.5% to 26.7% compared ...

Abstract Nano-graphene materials have improved many thermal properties based on polymer systems. The additive polymers' thermal insulation cannot be significantly increased for use as a reinforcement in multifunctional thermally insulating polymer foam. Herein, we present the development of far-infrared emissivity and antistatic properties using multifunctional nano-graphene polyester fibers. Nano-graphene far-infrared thermal insulation polyester was synthesized with 2% nano-graphene and dispersant polypropylene wax-maleic anhydride (PP wax-MA) using the Taguchi method combined with grey relational analysis (GRA) to improve the thermal properties and the performance of the polymer composite. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) shows that the pyrolysis temperature of spinning-grade polyester was increased when the nano-graphene powder was added to the polyester. The differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis confirmed the modification of polyester by nano-graphene, showing the effect of the nucleating agent, which ultimately improved the performance of the polyester. The physical properties of the optimized polyester fibers were improved with a yarn count of 76.5 d, tensile strength of 3.3 g/d, and an elongation at break increased from 23.5% to 26.7% compared with unmodified polymer yarn. These far-infrared emission rates increased from 78% to 83%, whereas the far-infrared temperature increased from 4.0 °C to 22 °C, and the surface resistance increased to 10

Abstract Background: We characterized age at diagnosis and estimated sex differences for lung cancer and its histological subtypes among individuals who never smoke.
Methods: We analyzed the distribution of age at lung cancer diagnosis in 33,793 individuals across 8 cohort studies and two national registries from East Asia, the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK). Student's t-tests were used to assess the study population differences (Δ years) in age at diagnosis comparing females and males who never smoke across subgroups defined by race/ethnicity, geographic location, and histological subtypes.
Results: We found that among Chinese individuals diagnosed with lung cancer who never smoke, females were diagnosed with lung cancer younger than males in the Taiwan Cancer Registry (n = 29,832) (Δ years = -2.2 (95% confidence interval (CI):-2.5, -1.9), in Shanghai (n = 1049) (Δ years = -1.6 (95% CI:-2.9, -0.3), and in Sutter Health and Kaiser Permanente Hawai'i in the US (n = 82) (Δ years = -11.3 (95% CI: -17.7, -4.9). While there was a suggestion of similar patterns in African American and non-Hispanic White individuals. the estimated differences were not consistent across studies and were not statistically significant.
Conclusions: We found evidence of sex differences for age at lung cancer diagnosis among individuals who never smoke.
