    Abstract Background: Genital
Aim: Determine the prevalence of Ct infection and identify risk factors associated with Ct infection in sexually active fertile women in Northern Nigeria.
Materials and methods: One hundred and fifty sexually active women presenting to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria were studied. Socio-demographic characteristics and history of risk factors for acquisition of genital Ct were obtained from the participants using a questionnaire. Their sera were tested for the presence of Ct immunoglobulin G using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay.
Results: The mean ages ± standard deviation of seropositive and seronegative women were 29.1 ± 7.3 years and 28.9 (SD 6.7) years respectively (
Conclusion: A low prevalence of Ct was found among fertile women. Lack of regular source of personal income was associated with Ct infection but the sexual behavioural factors studied were not.

Abstract After a long global battle with wild poliovirus, the virus has been defeated through researches and vaccination using the oral polio vaccine and inactivated polio vaccine as well as sensitization. The issue that is now of global concern is that of vaccine-derived poliovirus which emerged from the unstable oral polio vaccine. Ninety sewage water samples were collected from slums in Maiduguri using grab method, concentrated using two phase separation method and subjected to intratypic differentiation and vaccine-derived poliovirus screening. The result revealed the presence of Sabin 1in 17 samples (61.0%) and Sabin 3 in 22 samples (79.0%), all of which were positive after vaccine-derived poliovirus screening. The presence of strains of Sabin 1 and Sabin 3 in the sewage water samples collected is an indication of virus shedding in individuals which could be as a result of vaccination or contact with the faeces infected or vaccinated individuals.

Abstract Objective: To determine the role of the IL8 rs4073 polymorphism in predicting the risk of central nervous system (CNS) toxicity in patients receiving standard pharmacological treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Methods: A cohort of 85 consenting MDR-TB patients receiving treatment with second-line antituberculosis drugs had their blood samples amplified for the IL8 (rs4073) gene and genotyped. All patients were clinically screened for evidence of treatment toxicity and categorized accordingly. Crude and adjusted associations were assessed.
Results: The chief complaints fell into the following categories: CNS toxicity; gastrointestinal toxicity; skin toxicity; and eye and ear toxicities. Symptoms of gastrointestinal toxicity were reported by 59% of the patients, and symptoms of CNS toxicity were reported by 42.7%. With regard to the genotypes of IL8 (rs4073), the following were identified: AA, in 64 of the study participants; AT, in 7; and TT, in 11. A significant association was found between the dominant model of inheritance and CNS toxicity for the crude model (p = 0.024; OR = 3.57; 95% CI, 1.18-10.76) and the adjusted model (p = 0.031; OR = 3.92; 95% CI, 1.13-13.58). The AT+TT genotype of IL8 (rs4073) showed a 3.92 times increased risk of CNS toxicity when compared with the AA genotype.
Conclusions: The AT+TT genotype has a tendency to be associated with an increased risk of adverse clinical features during MDR-TB treatment.

Abstract The ability to model and forecast waiting and service time to increase patients' satisfaction, reduce waiting time, avoid casualties, and increase efficiency in service delivery is crucial. It encourages the identification of future pressure by using the relevant key performance indicators. In this paper, the ARIMA model is used to study the waiting and service time of patients at the {\it Federal University Gusau} Health Services Clinic. The system was a single, time-independent arrival with many service points. Based on the results found in the waiting and service processes, the service time has a lower mean and variance when compared to the waiting time. The waiting time has a lower skewness and kurtosis when compared to the service time. The Ljung-Box (Q) Statistic test shows that the correlation in the time series has been adequately captured for the waiting and service time processes, though the waiting and service time processes have 4 and 10 outliers respectively. The ARIMA (0,1,2) and ARIMA (2,1,1) are selected for modelling the waiting and service time respectively based on the evaluation metrics.
