También, se intenta dar cuenta de la actitud negativa del gobierno norteamericano frente a la “alianza” de las dos potencias del Cono Sur y las tendencias “autonomistas” de sus mandatarios.// The following article deals with the relationship between Argentina and Brazil and the role that each country performed in the context of the regional integration process, which was institutionalized in the Latin-American Free Trade Association (ALALC, Asociación Lationamericana de Libre Comercio, 1960), considering the influence of the United States’ government as a hegemonic power in the region. The historical tensions between Brazil and Argentina did not vanish with the constitution of the ALALC. Furthermore, they tended to increase due to the establishment of military governments in both countries during the 60’s. We will also expose the United States’ negative attitude towards this “alliance” between these crucial countries of the Southern Cone, considering the “autonomist” tendencies of both presidents.

Abstract Alternative splicing changes are closely linked to aging, though it remains unclear if they are drivers or effects. As organisms age, splicing patterns change, varying gene isoform levels and functions. These changes may contribute to aging alterations rather than just reflect declining RNA quality control. Three main splicing types-intron retention, cassette exons, and cryptic exons-play key roles in age-related complexity. These events modify protein domains and increase nonsense-mediated decay, shifting protein isoform levels and functions. This may potentially drive aging or serve as a biomarker. Fluctuations in splicing factor expression also occur with aging. Somatic mutations in splicing genes can also promote aging and age-related disease. The interplay between splicing and aging has major implications for aging biology, though differentiating correlation and causation remains challenging. Declaring a splicing factor or event as a driver requires comprehensive evaluation of the associated molecular and physiological changes. A greater understanding of how RNA splicing machinery and downstream targets are impacted by aging is essential to conclusively establish the role of splicing in driving aging, representing a promising area with key implications for understanding aging, developing novel therapeutical options, and ultimately leading to an increase in the healthy human lifespan.

Abstract Background: Gut microbiome is a community of microorganisms that lives in the human intestine and exerts various functions on the host, including metabolic, immunoregulatory, and control over cell proliferation. Gut microbiome alterations have been associated with various pathological conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. Gut-prostate axis is explained by the association between gut microbiome quantitative and functional alterations along with increased intestinal epithelial permeability with prostatediseases. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical importance of this association are not completely clarified yet.
Methods: We conducted a narrative review of the most relevant articles in the Medline (US National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD, USA), Scopus (Elsevier, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and Web of Science Core Collection (Thomson Reuters, Toronto, ON, Canada) databases. No chronological restrictions were applied, and the most related papers published until December 2023 were included.
Results: Gut microbiota (GM) and its metabolites are capable of modifying host androgen level, as well as prostate cancer (PCa) therapy response. Moreover, patients with inflammatory bowel disease have higher rates of prostatitis-like symptoms and a potential risk of developing PCa.
Conclusions: There is evidence that interventions on the GM and its metabolites have a high potential to serve as diagnostic and therapeutic tools for prostate diseases, including PCa.

Abstract Purpose: To report how to manage and prevent the incomplete laser cut and following uncut tags of anterior capsular lens, performed using the selective laser capsulotomy.
Methods: We describe three possible approaches: peeling the anterior capsulotomy disc with forceps, breaking the tags using the cystotomy needle tip, or cutting them using a 23-G vitrectomy scissors.
Results: Using the 23-G vitrectomy scissors resulted in no complication. Peeling the anterior capsulotomy using the forceps instead caused zonular stress with subsequent risks of zonular dialysis, whereas using the cystotomy needle tip resulted in irregular capsulotomy rim and weakness all along the capsulotomy edge where micro tears caused a tear during the rest of cataract surgery
Conclusion: Incomplete laser cut and subsequent discontinuous capsulotomy results in the presence of multiple tags which create strong adherence between the central capsulotomy disc and the peripheral capsule. Key steps of the procedure to prevent an incomplete laser cut, which are the anterior lens capsule staining and laser beam focusing, and how to correctly manage them, which may shorten the learning curve and enhance the outcomes.
