Abstract This study employs nonparametric causality-in-quantiles and wavelet coherence techniques to examine the impact of economic policy uncertainty and oil price variations on bank stocks in twelve prominent global economies. The results reveal that the effects of both economic policy uncertainty and oil prices on bank stock values vary significantly across countries and over time. Notably, during stress periods, we observe an inverse relationship between economic policy uncertainty and bank stocks in multiple countries, namely, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Russia, and the USA, with Japan exhibiting a particularly strong and long-term adverse correlation. Similarly, the influence of oil prices is primarily observed during crisis periods, but it demonstrates a substantial co-movement with bank stocks across the sample countries except Brazil. Our empirical analysis holds valuable implications for policymakers, bankers, investors, and portfolio managers.

Abstract Background: DNA mismatch repair (MMR) is a specialized system that corrects errors in DNA replication, namely, base substitution mismatches and minor insertion-deletion mismatches. The deficient mismatch repair (d-MMR) protein plays a vital role in predicting the prognosis of endometrioid carcinoma. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of MMR errors in endometrial cancer (EC) and their correlation with clinicopathological features.
Methods: We examined the immunohistochemistry presence of four MMR proteins in 50 samples of EC tissues that were preserved in formalin and embedded in paraffin. The proteins identified were MutL homolog 1 (MLH1), post-meiotic segregation increased 2 (PMS2), MutS homolog 2 (MSH2), and MutS homolog 6 (MSH6). The study examined several clinicopathological characteristics and conducted MMR phenotyping.
Results: The findings revealed that among the 50 cases of EC, 40% of patients had grade I disease and 78% had stage I malignancy. Furthermore, among the 50 individuals evaluated, 56% exhibited competence in MMR, whereas 44% displayed loss in nuclear expression of MMR. The rate of MLH1 and PMS2 protein loss was recorded as the greatest, at 18%, while the loss of MSH2 and MSH6 was documented at 6%. Within the same range, the majority of patients with d-MMR were above the age of 50 years.
Conclusion: The majority of the recruited EC patients in this study showed advanced age and a high percentage of d-MMR status.

Abstract This review proposes that mineral-based greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation could be developed into a substantial climate change abatement tool. This proposal was evaluated via three objectives: (1) synthesise literature studies documenting the effectiveness of geological minerals at mitigating GHG emissions; (2) quantify, via meta-analysis, GHG magnitudes that could be abated by minerals factoring-in the carbon footprint of the approach; and (3) estimate the global availability of relevant minerals. Several minerals have been effectively harnessed across multiple sectors-including agriculture, waste management and coal mining-to mitigate carbon dioxide/CO

Abstract Social media platforms, which are ripe with emotionally charged pieces of information, are vulnerable to the dissemination of vast amounts of misinformation. Little is known about the affective processing that underlies peoples’ belief in and dissemination of fake news on social media, with the research on fake news predominantly focusing on cognitive processing aspects. This study presents a systematic review of the impact of affective constructs on the perception of fake news on social media platforms. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases to identify relevant articles on the topics of affect, misinformation, disinformation, and fake news. A total of 31 empirical articles were obtained and analyzed. Seven research themes and four research gaps emerged from this review. The findings of this review complement the existing literature on the cognitive mechanisms behind how people perceive fake news on social media. This can have implications for technology platforms, governments, and citizens interested in combating infodemics.

Abstract Pneumoperitoneum is a medical emergency, diagnosed by subdiaphragmatic free air upon X-ray. The underlying cause, in this case a perforated duodenal ulcer from increased alcohol intake, must also be identified and treated. Public health crisis can impact physical health to varying degrees across socioeconomic groups.

Abstract Objective: Prestin is an outer hair cell (OHC) protein responsible for increasing cochlear sensitivity and has been proposed as a biomarker. We aimed to evaluate whether the serum prestin level is related to the severity of chronic sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).
Methods: Ninety subjects were recruited from the patient base at Samarra public hospitals and clinics in Iraq from January to October of 2022. They were divided into three groups equally: a group of healthy people without hearing loss (G0), a group with moderate SNHL (G1), and a group with severe SNHL (G2). The subjects ranged from 20 to 80 years of age and included 51 males and 39 females. Blood samples were collected, then serum was separated, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were performed to quantify the levels of prestin.
Results: Hearing thresholds were sequentially statistically higher across the three groups. While prestin levels were significantly higher in G1 and G2 than that in G0, there were no differences between the G1 and G2 levels. Serum prestin levels were positively correlated with hearing thresholds in G1, but not G2.
Conclusion: Our results suggest that in the clinical setting, prestin is sensitive to chronic mild to moderate SNHL (i.e., up to 40-60 dB), not more severe loss. This range is consistent with the added sensitivity provided by OHCs in the cochlea and provides support for prestin as a biomarker of OHC-mediated SNHL.

Abstract Dysphagia is a relatively common condition in the general population and has a wide range of underlying etiologies. We present the case of a 58-year-old male who presented with a complaint of progressive difficulty swallowing for two years in duration associated with unintentional weight loss. He has been using a proton pump inhibitor therapy for more than one year, but he had only mild improvement in his symptoms. Recently, the patient started to experience neck pain during swallowing and he underwent a head and neck computed tomography scan, which demonstrated an extensive elongation of the left styloid process that measured 14.9 cm. The clinical and imaging findings were consistent with Eagle syndrome and the decision was made to perform a resection of the left styloid process. Excision of the left styloid process was made using the external cervical approach. At the follow-up visit, the patient reported a near-complete resolution of his complaints. Eagle syndrome is a very rare etiology of dysphagia. The case highlights an example of Eagle syndrome with an extremely long styloid process. This diagnosis should be considered when encountering a patient with dysphagia and neck pain.
