Abstract Ferroptosis, a type of cell death involving iron and lipid peroxidation, has been found to be closely associated with the development of many diseases. Mitochondria are vital components of eukaryotic cells, serving important functions in energy production, cellular metabolism, and apoptosis regulation. Presently, the precise relationship between mitochondria and ferroptosis remains unclear. In this study, we aim to systematically elucidate the mechanisms via which mitochondria regulate ferroptosis from multiple perspectives to provide novel insights into mitochondrial functions in ferroptosis. Additionally, we present a comprehensive overview of how mitochondria contribute to ferroptosis in different conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease, mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, and novel coronavirus pneumonia. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the involvement of mitochondria in ferroptosis could lead to more effective approaches for both basic cell biology studies and medical treatments.

Abstract Programmed cell death (PCD), also known as regulatory cell death (RCD), is a process that occurs in all organisms and is closely linked to both normal physiological processes and disease states. Various signaling pathways, such as TP53, KRAS, NOTCH, hypoxia, and metabolic reprogramming, have been found to regulate RCD. Polysaccharides, which are essential natural products, have been the subject of extensive research in the fields of food, nutrition, and medicine due to their wide range of pharmacological effects. Studies have shown that polysaccharides have biological activities and the potential to target signal transduction pathways for the treatment of diseases. This paper provides a review of the mechanisms through which polysaccharides exert their therapeutic effects at different levels and explores the relationship between different types of RCD and human diseases. The aim of this review is to provide a theoretical basis for the further clinical use and application of polysaccharide bioactivities.

Abstract Recently, large-scale scRNA-seq datasets have been generated to understand the complex and poorly understood signaling mechanisms within microenvironment of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), which are critical for identifying novel therapeutic targets and precision medicine. Though a set of targets have been identified, however, it remains a challenging to infer the core intra- and inter-multi-cell signaling communication networks using the scRNA-seq data, considering the complex and highly interactive background signaling network. Herein, we introduced a novel graph transformer model, PathFinder, to infer multi-cell intra- and inter-cellular signaling pathways and signaling communications among multi-cell types. Compared with existing models, the novel and unique design of PathFinder is based on the divide-and-conquer strategy, which divides the complex signaling networks into signaling paths, and then score and rank them using a novel graph transformer architecture to infer the intra- and inter-cell signaling communications. We evaluated PathFinder using scRNA-seq data of APOE4-genotype specific AD mice models and identified novel APOE4 altered intra- and inter-cell interaction networks among neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. PathFinder is a general signaling network inference model and can be applied to other omics data-driven signaling network inference.

Abstract Mid- and far-infrared photodetectors that can operate at room temperature are essential for both civil and military applications. However, the widespread use of mid-to-far-infrared photonic technology faces challenges due to the need for low-temperature cooling of existing commercial semiconductors and the limited optical absorption efficiency of two-dimensional materials. We have utilized the photothermoelectric effect to fabricate a self-powered, broadband, and high-performance photodetector based on a one-dimensional tellurium nanorod array film. The device surpasses energy band gap limitations, functioning even at wavelengths up to approximately 10,600 nm. In particular, the detectivity of the device can reach 4.8 × 10

Abstract Position-sensitive detectors (PSDs) based on the lateral photovoltaic effect are crucial components in non-contact distance measurement, process control, guidance systems, and other related applications. However, PSDs are challenging due to the narrow spectral range and low sensitivity, limiting further practical application. Here, we present an ultra-sensitive SnSe/Si PSD device. A large-area uniform SnSe nanorod (NR) array film was grown on Si using a glancing-angle magnetron sputtering deposition technique and a SnSe/Si heterojunction PSD device was fabricated. PSDs exhibit an excellent photoresponse in a wide spectral range of 405-980 nm, showing an ultrahigh position sensitivity of 1517.4 mV mm

Abstract Abstract This paper presents a cement-content controlled method for quality assessment and quality control of the deep soil mixing (DSM) columns in slope reinforcement. The ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) titration method was modified and used for the cement content measurement of core samples, and the effects of curing conditions and curing period on the titration results were investigated. 35 DSM columns with different construction parameters were installed in the test section, and cement content and unconfined compression tests of field core samples were conducted. The relationship between the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and cement content of DSM columns was formulated, and the quality of DSM columns with different construction parameters was assessed. The test results suggested that the failure strength of the field cores was approximately 15–55% lower than that of laboratory samples with the same cement content. In single columns, the coefficient of variation (CV) of cement content had a negative correlation with the average failure strength and a positive correlation with the coefficient of variation of failure strength. Bidirectional mixing method, lower penetration and withdrawal velocity, more mixing blades and larger number of mixings could improve the uniformity of the DSM columns.
