Abstract Sensitive skin is clinically defined by characteristic sensory perceptions including tightness, abnormal stinging, burning, tingling, pain and pruritus. Facial erythema may occur, and other body areas can be involved. Sensitive skin affects extremely the quality of life. According with the International Forum for the Study of Itch (IFSI), sensitive skin is defined as a syndrome. The unpleasant sensations described are in response to stimuli that normally should not provoke such sensations. Moreover, these unpleasant sensations cannot be explained by any skin disease. Sensitive skin is always considered when any new consumer health, cosmetic or household product is introduced in the market. Once sensitive skin is recognized, it is mandatory to identify specific triggers that commonly induce symptoms and even cutaneous visible signs. Sensitive skin syndrome can be exacerbated by an allergic setting and environmental factors (cold, hot, dryness, pollution, wind, chemicals ...), a source of intolerance and unpleasant sensations. Cosmetics are the main triggering factors of sensitive skin according to patient's reports. The presence of potentially irritant substances in their composition increases the clinical expression of symptoms. As sensitive skin is frequent, and it is increasing based on the current development of cosmetic use worldwide, there is a need to develop better skin care products. The continuous research of active and safe skin care products to prevent and treat sensitive skin is extremely welcome.

Abstract The endocrine disruptive chemical DEHP is a plasticiser often found in marine waters. Here, we assessed the effect of this additive on the number and size of eggs spawned by female mussels during a synchronised spawning event. After achieving the ripeness of the gonads, mussels of both sexes were exposed to two environmentally relevant concentrations of DEHP (nominal concentrations 0.5 and 50 µg/L) for one week. A spawning event was then induced and eggs were collected, counted, and their size measured (area and diameter). A slight but not significant effect was observed in lowering the number of eggs spawned when increasing the DEHP concentration. This effect was greater when adding spent gonads (possibly fully spawned females) to the total number of females. A significant effect of the lower dose on the average egg sizes was noticed, with a smaller area and diameter measured with respect to the control and the higher concentrated treatments. These results once again underline the importance for ecotoxicological studies to address the nonlinear dose-response effects of endocrine disruptive chemicals environmentally present at concentrations in the order of just a few µg/L that could not elicit a strong defence mechanism at low levels and be absorbed by filter feeder animals such as mussels.

Abstract The nipple is the focal point of the human breast and serves important physiological, sexual, and aesthetic purposes. It can be affected by atopic, irritant, and allergic contact eczema, which often reduce the patient's quality of life. The objective of this article is to discuss the different types of nipple eczema and highlight relevant differential diagnoses and treatment options. A systematic search of PubMed was conducted to identify and critically appraise the existing literature on the topic. All articles on nipple eczema were considered eligible, regardless of publication date, language or study design. A final of 33 manuscripts on nipple eczema remained. The scarce literature and the limited number of high-quality manuscripts impedes provision of structured data on nipple eczema. To securely reach the educative value of this manuscript, the systematic review was combined with a manual databank search and selected manual search of textbooks. The differential diagnosis of nipple eczema encompasses among others nipple psoriasis, nipple candidiasis and Paget's disease. In case of diagnostic uncertainty, swabs or biopsies are indicated. Treatment of nipple eczema needs to rapidly control the signs and symptoms of the disease, since it can have a negative effect on quality of life and can lead to premature arrest of breastfeeding. The key treatment step is starting with topical corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors, both of which are considered safe during lactation. Avoidance of provoking factors, such as repetitive friction, chemical agents, or allergens, can help. The use of nipple protection devices can be proposed for nursing women and sometimes adjusting of latch/suck positioning during breastfeeding is needed. Furthermore, patients should be advised to moisturize the nipple intensively and to switch to emollient wash products. Warm water compresses, black tea compresses or commercially available tannin containing topicals can provide comfort.

Abstract Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a heterogeneous disease in terms of its phenotypical, barrier, and immunological presentation. Emerging therapies are undoubtedly contributing to a new chapter in the treatment of AD, bringing an excellent possibility of individualization, and thereby creating a tailored approach. The two most promising substance groups are biological drugs (dupilumab, tralokinumab, lebrikizumab, nemolizumab) and Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) (baricitinib, upadacitinib, and abrocitinib). The vision that certain well-defined phenotypes and endotypes, as well as personal preferences, may guide the future treatment of AD is both tempting and appealing, but not yet reality. The accessibility of new drugs such as biologics and small molecules has opened up the discussion regarding personalized medicine, referring to the complex nature of AD as well as the experiences from clinical trials and real-world evidence. We have now reached the point of creating new strategies and AD treatment goals by increasing the amount of new information concerning the efficacy and safety of new drugs. This article has reviewed the novel treatment options for AD in the light of the heterogeneity of this disease and proposes a broader vision on the strategy of personalized treatment of AD.

Abstract Previous studies indicate that a postbiotic extract from Aquaphilus dolomiae (ADE-G3) improves skin barrier function and relieves neuroinflammation. Evaluation of an ADE-G3-based soothing cream for managing sensitive facial skin. This real-world, international, pre-post comparative study involved adults with sensitive facial skin who used the study product once or twice daily for two to three months according to usual practice. Subjects reported changes in perceived clinical symptoms using self-administered questionnaires. Physicians assessed changes in xerosis severity, overall product effectiveness and tolerability. User satisfaction and quality of life (QoL) assessments, and subgroup analyses according to the factors triggering sensitive skin were also conducted. In total, 2,382 subjects with sensitive facial skin (female: 79%; median age: 40 years) were included. An immediate skin soothing effect after the first ADE-G3-based cream application was reported by 93% of subjects, and improvements in symptoms were reported in 94% after a mean of nine days of product use. After several months of use (mean: 71±21 days), xerosis severity and dermatological-related QoL significantly improved in the whole study population and in the subgroups (p<0.001). At the end of the study, 92% of users were satisfied with the product and 95% reported improvements in their overall skin condition. Physicians found the cream to be effective and well tolerated in 92% and 98% of subjects, respectively. Regular use of the ADE-G3-based cream was shown to be effective in real-world management of sensitive facial skin, regardless of the factors involved in triggering skin sensitivity.

Title translation Acceptance of digital apps in the follow-up of patients with head and neck tumors.
Abstract Background: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures lead to improved quality of life in cancer patients and possibly to earlier detection of tumor recurrence.
Objective: Patient interest in complementing tumor follow-up care with apps for recording PROs was assessed using a questionnaire.
Materials and methods: An independently created questionnaire to record the interest of tumor patients in a digitalized form of tumor follow-up care was evaluated (n = 110).
Results: In the study, the majority of tumor patients were interested in using an app for tumor disease. Taking age into account, the number increased even further for patients < 60 years of age, as expected. In line with this, human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive patients showed significantly greater interest (p = 0.021).
Conclusion: The introduction of an app is supported by the majority of tumor patients. In addition to recording PROs, other applications (appointment reminders, patient files, sports/nutrition programs) could also be integrated.
