    Abstract The current method of crack detection in bridges using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) relies heavily on acquiring local images of bridge concrete components, making image acquisition inefficient. To address this, we propose a crack detection method that utilizes large-scene images acquired by a UAV. First, our approach involves designing a UAV-based scheme for acquiring large-scene images of bridges, followed by processing these images using a background denoising algorithm. Subsequently, we use a maximum crack width calculation algorithm that is based on the region of interest and the maximum inscribed circle. Finally, we applied the method to a typical reinforced concrete bridge. The results show that the large-scene images are only 1/9-1/22 of the local images for this bridge, which significantly improves detection efficiency. Moreover, the accuracy of the crack detection can reach up to 93.4%.

    Abstract Objective: Multiple ligament knee injuries (MLKIs) are rare but severe systemic trauma. Single surgery in the acute setting is preferred, although with an extended operation time. To avoid the complications associated with a tourniquet, we herein describe a method for visibility without a tourniquet: intra-articular administration of adrenaline plus an irrigation pump system.
    Study design: This is a cohort study with a level of evidence of 3.
    Methods: From April 2020 to February 2022, 19 patients with MLKIs were reviewed retrospectively. All patients got intra-articular administration of adrenaline plus an irrigation pump system for visibility without a tourniquet. The following parameters were assessed: visibility, range of motion, knee stability, visual analog scale (VAS) score, range of motion (ROM), Lysholm score, Tegner activity level, and International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC).
    Results: All patients were followed up for at least 6 months. At the latest follow-up, the mean VAS score, ROM, Lysholm score, and IKDC were 1.79 ± 0.86, 121.21 ± 10.96, 88.16 ± 5.21, and 88.53 ± 5.06, respectively. The average Tegner activity level decreased significantly from preinjury to postoperation (5.16 ± 0.83 vs. 3.11 ± 0.88,
    Conclusions: The intra-articular administration of adrenaline plus an irrigation pump system is recommended as an alternative to a tourniquet to achieve a good visual field. Further evidence-based work with a larger sample is needed.

    Abstract Secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) is one of the most abundant immunoglobulin subtypes among mucosa, which plays an indispensable role in the first-line protection against invading pathogens and antigens. Therefore, the role of respiratory SIgA in respiratory mucosal immune diseases has attracted more and more attention. Although the role of SIgA in intestinal mucosal immunity has been widely studied, the cell types responsible for SIgA and the interactions between cells are still unclear. Here, we conducted a wide search of relevant studies and sorted out the relationship between SIgA and some pulmonary diseases (COPD, asthma, tuberculosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, COVID-19, lung cancer), which found SIgA is involved in the pathogenesis and progression of various lung diseases, intending to provide new ideas for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of related lung diseases.

    Abstract Objective: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is considered as a chronic interstitial lung disease with underlying mechanism of IPF remaining unclear, while there are no definitive treatment options. In recent years, scientists have gradually paid attention to the influence of angiogenesis on IPF. Because IPF is a progressive with microvascular remodeling disorder, scientists have postulated that angiogenesis may also be one of the initiating and contributing factors of the disease. Bupleurum is a common natural Chinese herbal medicine with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and other pharmacological effects. As the most important active monomer of Bupleurum, Saikosaponin-d (SSd) is a new discovery with anti-pulmonary fibrosis (PF) activity. This study attempts to investigate the role of SSd in the interference of PF through regulation of angiogenesis in IPF through Angiopoietin (Angpt) /Tie receptor 2 (Tie2) pathway.
    Methods: Randomly, we allocated C57BL/6 mice into four groups (n = 20 in each group). Afterwards, establishment of IPF model was accomplished via intratracheal administration of bleomycin (BLM, 5 mg/kg), while corresponding drug intervention was given accordingly. On 3rd, 7th, 14th and 28th days after modeling, we performed histopathological examination through staining. Meanwhile, immunohistochemistry (IHC) of PF and the expression of related factors were observed, while Ang/Tie2 pathway was assessed by ELISA with the effect of SSd on angiogenesis related proteins in IPF being explored with IHC and Western Blot technique.
    Results: Our results showed that SSd could reduce inflammation and PF levels in lung tissue of experimental mice, while levels of angiogenesis-related factors, namely Tie-2, Ang-1 and ANGPT2 (Ang-2), fibrosis- associated factors like Alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), collagen-I and hydroxyproline in SSd and dexamethasone (DXM) mice were significantly reduced at each time point compared to BLM (p < 0.01). Additionally, we discovered substantial decreased expressions of Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie-2, α-SMA and collagen-I at protein level in SSd and DXM mice at each time point compared to BLM (p < 0.05). Besides, insignificant differences were observed between SSd and DXM groups (p > 0.05).
    Conclusion: This study has demonstrated that SSd could down-regulate the expression of ANG-1, Ang-2 and Tie2 in the Ang/Tie2 pathway, and may reduce lung inflammation and PF in BLM-induced mice via inhibition of angiogenesis.

    Abstract Uridine, a pyrimidine nucleoside, is crucial in the synthesis of metabolites. According to observational studies, a higher plasma uridine level is associated with a lower risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the casual relationship between uridine and AF is still unknown. In this study, we used the Mendelian randomisation (MR) approach to explore causality. Three genetic variants associated with uridine were identified from the Metabolomics GWAS server (7824 participants); summary-level datasets associated with AF were acquired from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis with 1,030,836 European participants (60,620 AF cases). We duplicated the MR analyses using datasets from AF HRC studies and the FinnGen Consortium, and then conducted a meta-analysis which combined the main results.     Abstract Recently, there has been a significant focus on the issue of pollution caused by livestock and poultry rearing, which is recognized as a prominent contributor to nonpoint source pollution in the agricultural sector. This study employed the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology to evaluate the environmental impact of several pig manure processing scenarios with the aim of determining the appropriate solid–liquid separation tool for large-scale pig farms. The findings indicate that the utilization of a screw extruder for solid–liquid separation in Scenario 2 has a lower environmental impact. In contrast to Scenario 1, Scenario 2 exhibits reduced environmental potential in the areas of global warming, human toxicity, acidification, and eutrophication. Specifically, the global warming, human toxicity, acidification, and eutrophication impacts decreased by 56%, 81%, 83%, and 273%, respectively, due to the implementation of solid–liquid separation. The type of solid–liquid separation equipment used during the processing of swine manure, as well as the subsequent treatment, have a significant impact on environmental emissions. Compared to Scenario 2, Scenario 3, which utilizes a centrifugal microfilter for solid–liquid separation, exhibits a lower environmental impact in terms of human toxicity, resulting in a reduction of 0.736 kg DCB-eq. In general, solid–liquid separation is a viable and environmentally friendly method for the disposal of waste from large-scale pig farms. The adoption of this method is highly recommended. During its implementation, careful consideration should be given to factors such as separation efficiency and pollution emissions. It is crucial to select appropriate equipment for solid–liquid separation to effectively process the waste.

According to observational studies, a higher plasma uridine level is associated with a lower risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the casual relationship between uridine and AF is still unknown. In this study, we used the Mendelian randomisation (MR) approach to explore causality. The association remained consistent in the meta-analysis of the various datasets (OR 0.27; 95% CI 0.17, 0.42; p = 1.34 × 10–8). In conclusion, the plasma uridine level is inversely associated with the risk of AF. Raising the plasma uridine level may have prophylactic potential against AF.

    Abstract Semantic communication has emerged as a new deep learning-based communication paradigm that drives the research of end-to-end data transmission in tasks like image classification, and image reconstruction. However, the security problem caused by semantic attacks has not been well explored, resulting in vulnerabilities within semantic communication systems exposed to potential semantic perturbations. In this paper, we propose a secure semantic communication system, DiffuSeC, which leverages the diffusion model and deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to address this issue. With the diffusing module in the sender end and the asymmetric denoising module in the receiver end, the DiffuSeC mitigates the perturbations added by semantic attacks, including data source attacks and channel attacks. To further improve the robustness under unstable channel conditions caused by semantic attacks, we developed a DRL-based channel-adaptive diffusion step selection scheme to achieve stable performance under fluctuating environments. A timestep synchronization scheme is designed for diffusion timestep coordination between the two ends. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DiffuSeC shows higher robust accuracy than previous works under a wide range of channel conditions, and can quickly adjust the model state according to signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) in unstable environments.

    Abstract Ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) is a powerful tool for observing the evolution of transient structures at the atomic level. However, temporal resolution is a huge challenge for UEDs, mainly depending on the pulse duration. Unfortunately, the Coulomb force between electrons causes the pulse duration to increase continually when propagating, reducing the temporal resolution. In this paper, we theoretically design a radio frequency (RF) compression cavity using the finite-element method of electromagnetic-thermal coupling to overcome this limitation and obtain a high-brightness, short-pulse-duration, and stable electron beam. In addition, the cavity's size parameters are optimized, and a water-cooling system is designed to ensure stable operation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the electromagnetic-thermal coupling method has been used to study the RF cavity applied to UED. The results show that the RF cavity operates in TM010 mode with a resonant frequency of 2970 MHz and generates a resonant electric field. This mode of operation generates an electric field that varies periodically and transiently, compressing the electronic pulse duration. The electromagnetic-thermal coupling method proposed in this study effectively improves the temporal resolution of UED.
