    Abstract Summary: HiCube is a lightweight web application for interactive visualization and exploration of diverse types of genomics data at multiscale resolutions. Especially, HiCube displays synchronized views of Hi-C contact maps and 3D genome structures with user-friendly annotation and configuration tools, thereby facilitating the study of 3D genome organization and function.
    Availability and implementation: HiCube is implemented in Javascript and can be installed via NPM. The source code is freely available at GitHub (https://github.com/wmalab/HiCube).

    Abstract Background: Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers (HSDs) have been installed in most public and clinical settings for hygiene purposes and convenient application.
    Aim: To determine whether sanitizer-tolerant bacterial pathogens can colonize HSDs, spreading diseases and antibiotic resistance.
    Methods: Sampling was conducted from operational automatic HSDs, specifically the dispensing nozzle in direct contact with sanitizer. Culture-dependent cultivation of bacteria and MALDI-TOF were employed to assess microbiological contamination. Bacterial isolates were selected for rapid killing and biofilm eradication assays with alcohol treatment. Antibiotic minimum inhibitory concentration assays were performed according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Virulence potential of bacterial isolates was evaluated in the Caenorhadbitis elegans infection model.
    Findings: Nearly 50% of HSDs from 52 locations, including clinical settings, food industry, and public spaces, contain microbial contamination at 10
    Conclusion: HSDs serve as potential breeding grounds for dissemination of pathogens and antibiotic resistance across unaware users. Proper HSD maintenance will ensure protection of public health and sustainable use of sanitizing alcohols, to prevent emergence of alcohol-resistant pathogens.

    Abstract The presence of cloud layers severely compromises the quality and effectiveness of optical remote sensing (RS) images. However, existing deep-learning (DL)-based Cloud Removal (CR) techniques encounter difficulties in accurately reconstructing the original visual authenticity and detailed semantic content of the images. To tackle this challenge, this work proposes to encompass enhancements at the data and methodology fronts. On the data side, an ultra-resolution benchmark named CUHK Cloud Removal (CUHK-CR) of 0.5m spatial resolution is established. This benchmark incorporates rich detailed textures and diverse cloud coverage, serving as a robust foundation for designing and assessing CR models. From the methodology perspective, a novel diffusion-based framework for CR called Diffusion Enhancement (DE) is proposed to perform progressive texture detail recovery, which mitigates the training difficulty with improved inference accuracy. Additionally, a Weight Allocation (WA) network is developed to dynamically adjust the weights for feature fusion, thereby further improving performance, particularly in the context of ultra-resolution image generation. Furthermore, a coarse-to-fine training strategy is applied to effectively expedite training convergence while reducing the computational complexity required to handle ultra-resolution images. Extensive experiments on the newly established CUHK-CR and existing datasets such as RICE confirm that the proposed DE framework outperforms existing DL-based methods in terms of both perceptual quality and signal fidelity.

    Abstract Background: Influenza virus (IV) and the rhinovirus (RV) are the two most common circulating respiratory viruses circulating. Natural viral interference has been suggested between them. The effect of such at the population level has been described in temperate region, while its effect at the individual and cellular levels warrants further validation. In this study, we described the respiratory virus epidemiology and the co-infection landscape in the hospitalized population and investigated the distinct molecular pathways involved in the inhibition of virus replication.
    Methods: Nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPAs) collected from patients during 2015 to 2019 were examined for the presence of respiratory viruses. The correlation of the monthly prevalence between all the tested respiratory viruses, the co-infection rate and the temporal interference of RV and IV were tested.     Findings: A total of 112,926 NPAs were evaluated, and the Enterovirus/RV was the most prevalent respiratory virus detected. The negative correlation between EV/RV and IVs prevalence was independent of age and meteorological factors. Compare with other viruses, EV/RV had a significantly lower incidence of co-infection with IVs. Prior exposure to RV inhibited the replication of IV species A, B and oseltamivir-resistance stain

    Abstract Image inpainting aims to fill the missing hole of the input. It is hard to solve this task efficiently when facing high-resolution images due to two reasons: (1) Large reception field needs to be handled for high-resolution image inpainting. (2) The general encoder and decoder network synthesizes many background pixels synchronously due to the form of the image matrix. In this paper, we try to break the above limitations for the first time thanks to the recent development of continuous implicit representation. In detail, we down-sample and encode the degraded image to produce the spatial-adaptive parameters for each spatial patch via an attentional Fast Fourier Convolution(FFC)-based parameter generation network. Then, we take these parameters as the weights and biases of a series of multi-layer perceptron(MLP), where the input is the encoded continuous coordinates and the output is the synthesized color value. Thanks to the proposed structure, we only encode the high-resolution image in a relatively low resolution for larger reception field capturing. Then, the continuous position encoding will be helpful to synthesize the photo-realistic high-frequency textures by re-sampling the coordinate in a higher resolution. Also, our framework enables us to query the coordinates of missing pixels only in parallel, yielding a more efficient solution than the previous methods. Experiments show that the proposed method achieves real-time performance on the 2048$\times$2048 images using a single GTX 2080 Ti GPU and can handle 4096$\times$4096 images, with much better performance than existing state-of-the-art methods visually and numerically.     Abstract Objectives: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, there has been a significant decline in seasonal influenza infection cases in Hong Kong. However, this decline has also resulted in reduced opportunities for the development of influenza-specific antibodies in the community. The levels of antibodies required for protection against recently circulating influenza A viruses in the post-COVID-19 era remain unclear.
    Methods: This study involved the analysis of paired plasma samples collected from 479 healthy adults in Hong Kong in 2021 and 2022. The neutralizing titers of plasma against influenza A (H1N1) and (H3N2) viruses circulating before and after the COVID-19 outbreak were determined using a microneutralization assay.
    Results: The H1N1 and H3N2 vaccine strains selected for the 2022/23 season were found to be closely related to the recently circulating viruses. However, in the samples collected in 2022, only 14.61% and 0.42% showed a neutralization titer (MN50) ≥1:20 against H1N1 A/Wisconsin/588/2019 (H1/Wis19) and H3N2 A/Darwin/6/2021 (H3/Dar21), respectively. Notably, participants who reported receiving annual flu vaccinations exhibited a higher seropositive rate for H1/Wis19 compared to those who had never received the flu vaccine (28.06% vs. 5.30%).
    Conclusion: Our results indicate that adults in Hong Kong generally lack neutralizing antibodies against circulating influenza A viruses, particularly H3N2. These findings underscore the importance of promoting flu vaccination in the post-COVID-19 era.

    Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the incidence and mortality trend of thyroid cancer, and compare its global incidence trends among different countries by age group and sex.
    Methods: Data on age-standardized incidence and mortality rate of thyroid cancer among 50 countries were collected from the Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Volume XI; the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER), the National Cancer Institute; the Nordic Cancer Registries (NORDCAN), and the WHO mortality database. The Average Annual Percent Change (AAPC) of the incidence and mortality trends was calculated by joinpoint regression analysis.
    Results: The age-standardized incidence of thyroid cancer was 3.1 and 10.1 cases per 100,000 persons in men and women, respectively. The incidence of thyroid cancer increased in most countries among individuals irrespective of age groups, and increased in populations aged <40 years in several countries, including Korea (male: AAPC 25.3, 95% C.I. 22.3-28.4, p < 0.001; female: AAPC 18.5, 95% C.I. 16.2-20.9, p < 0.001), Poland (male: AAPC 19.1, 95% C.I. 1.4-39.7, p = 0.036; female: AAPC 13.7, 95% C.I. 7.6-20.2), and China (male: AAPC 18.6, 95% C.I. 12.1-25.5, p < 0.001; female: AAPC 13.3, 95%C.I. 11.5-15.1, p < 0.001).
    Conclusion: An increasing incidence of thyroid cancer was observed in younger subjects in a majority of countries, highlighting the need for more preventive strategies in this population and possible avoidance of over-diagnosis.
