    Abstract Nutrient efficiency concept is used to increase the overall performance of cropping system by providing economically optimum nutrition to the crop and at same time minimizing nutrient losses from the crop yield. The study was undertaken on the AICRP-IFS experiment located at BAU, Sabour having twelve treatments replicated four times in randomized block design. The data were taken after 34th cropping cycle. In this study, a modest initiative has been undertaken to assess the various nutrient use efficiencies for N, P, and K in rice-wheat under different integrated nutrient management (INM) treatments involving substitution of N by farm yard manure, wheat straw, and green manure along with levels of recommended doses of fertilizers and farmers’ practice. The results revealed that the overall AE, PE, APE, PFP, IUE, ARE, and partial nutrient balance (PNB) of N, P, and K for wheat crop was comparatively lower than that of rice crop which reflects that the residual effect of applied organic manures and fertilizers was more than the direct effect. PNB of crops for both the crops was near to 1 in INM plots which indicates that the yields and fertility status of soil is being sustained with respect N and P. However, K mining is being indicated through higher values of PNB for K. Overall, the results indicated that the integrated use of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers for last 34 years likely improved soil fertility, increased sustainable crop yield and uptake thereby led to increased nutrient use efficiency of applied nutrients and crops.

    Abstract Recently, there has been a significant increase in the interest of using photocatalysis for environmental clean-up applications. In this research, potassium, and phosphorus co-doped graphitic carbon nitride (KPCN) photocatalyst modified with graphene oxide (GO) and heterostructured with ZnFe₂O₄ was synthesized via the hydrothermal method (KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄). The photoactivity of KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄ photocatalyst was examined for the photocatalytic degradation of target pollutants such as methylene blue (MB) dye, rhodamine B (RhB) dye, and tetracycline (TC) antibiotic. Furthermore, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency for real wastewater was determined to explore the practical application of KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄ photocatalyst. The degradation efficiencies of bare graphitic carbon nitride, KPCN, KPCN/GO, and KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄ photocatalysts for tetracycline antibiotics were 30%, 42%, 57%, and 87% within 60 min, respectively. Moreover, KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄ photocatalyst showed 71% COD removal efficiency within 240 min. The •OH and •O₂⁻ were the major reactive species in the photocatalytic process. Results showed that the degradation efficiencies of graphitic carbon nitride were greatly enhanced upon doping and further improved with the addition of GO and ZnFe₂O₄. Doping improved light harvesting, GO enhanced the adsorption ability and heterojunction with ZnFe₂O₄ enhanced the charge separation as well as the reusability of synthesized KPCN/GO/ZnFe₂O₄ photocatalyst.

    Abstract KEY MESSAGE: Expression pattern indicates that JA biosynthesis pathway via regulating JA levels might control root system architecture to improve nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and N, P, K⁺ deficiency tolerance in rice. Deficiencies of macronutrients (N, P and K⁺) and consequent excessive use of fertilizers have dramatically reduced soil fertility. It calls for development of nutrient use efficient plants. Plants combat nutrient deficiencies by altering their root system architecture (RSA) to enhance the acquisition of nutrients from the soil. Amongst various phytohormones, Jasmonic acid (JA) is known to regulate plant root growth and modulate RSA. Therefore, to understand the role of JA in macronutrient deficiency in rice, expression pattern of JA biosynthesis genes was analyzed under N, P and K⁺ deficiencies. Several members belonging to different families of JA biosynthesis genes (PLA1, LOX, AOS, AOC, OPR, ACX and JAR1) showed differential expression exclusively in one nutrient deficiency or in multiple nutrient deficiencies. Expression analysis during developmental stages showed that several genes expressed significantly in vegetative tissues, particularly in root. In addition, JA biosynthesis genes were found to have significant expression under the treatment of different phytohormones, including Auxin, cytokinin, gibberellic acid (GA), abscisic acid (ABA), JA and abiotic stresses, such as drought, salinity and cold. Analysis of promoters of these genes revealed various cis-regulatory elements associated with hormone response, plant development and abiotic stresses. These findings suggest that JA biosynthesis pathway by regulating the level of JA might control the RSA thus, it may help rice plant in combating macronutrient deficiency.

    Abstract A field experiment was conducted at Bikaner, Rajasthan during rainy (kharif) season of 2016 to study the effect of foliar supplementation of N, P and K on nutrient content, uptake and productivity of pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. emend Stuntz]. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 3 replications. The treatments comprised 14 combinations of N, P and K applied through basal application, foliar application and top-dressing. The results revealed that, application of N, P and K through foliar supplementation significantly influenced the nutrient content and uptake in pearl millet. Application of 75% RDF of N (50% basal + 25% top-dressing at 25 DAS): P: K + 1.5% spray of NPK (18: 18: 18) at 35 DAS resulted in maximum crude protein content (11.58%), total N uptake (70.7 kg/ha), total P uptake (13.1 kg/ha), total K uptake (74.0 kg/ha), ear-head length (32.4 cm), grain weight per ear-head (23.3 g), grain yield (2.13 t/ha), biological yield (6.88 t/ha) and B: C ratio 2.16) under hot arid conditions of western Rajasthan.

    Abstract We have searched for CP violation in the decays D(0)→K(S)(0)P(0) where P(0) denotes a neutral pseudoscalar meson that is either a π(0), η, or η' using KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 791 fb(-1) collected with the Belle detector. No evidence of significant CP violation is observed. We report the most precise CP asymmetry measurement in the decay D(0)→K(S)(0)π(0) to date: A(CP)(D(0)→K(S)(0)π(0))=(-0.28±0.19±0.10)%. We also report the first measurements of CP asymmetries in the decays D(0)→K(S)(0)η and D(0)→K(S)(0)η': A(CP)(D(0)→K(S)(0)η)=(+0.54±0.51±0.16)% and A(CP)(D(0)→K(S)(0)η')=(+0.98±0.67±0.14)%, respectively.

    Abstract The aim of an automated Electrocardiogram (ECG) delineation system is the reliable detection of the characteristic waveforms and determination of peaks and limits of individual QRS-complex, P- and T-waves. In this paper, a classical statistical pattern recognition algorithm characterized with high accuracy and stability, i.e., K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN) has been proposed for locating the fiducial points along with their waveform boundaries in ECG signals. First, the QRS-complex along with its onset and offset points of each beat is detected from the ECG signal. After that P- and T-wave, relative to each QRS-complex along with their onset and offset points, are then identified using this algorithm. The feature extraction is done using the gradient of the ECG signals. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been evaluated on two standard manually annotated databases, (i) CSE and (ii) QT, and also on ECG data acquired using BIOPAC®MP100 system in laboratory settings. The results in terms of accuracy, i.e., 92.8% for CSE database obtained, clearly indicate a high degree of agreement with the manual annotations made by the referees of CSE dataset-3. Further, the delineation results of the CSE and QT database are compared with the accepted tolerances as recommended by the CSE working party. The results for ECG records acquired using the BIOPAC®MP100 system, in terms of QRS duration, heart rate, QT-interval, P-wave duration and PR-interval using KNN algorithm have also been computed.
