    Abstract Forests on sandy soils are particularly vulnerable to fire. The study area in this research was Deliblatska peščara (the Deliblato Sands), one of the most endangered areas in Serbia. The linear trends, the polynomial trends and the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) were applied. Statistically significant decrease in the number of forest fires was found, while the increasing trends of the burned area and burned forest area were not significant. There was also an increase in the air temperature during the same period. In a study of the connection between forest fires and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), significant values of r were statistically observed only for the annual number of fires. The highest values were recorded for June (–0.373) and July (–0.375), and for summer r = –0.374 (statistically significant at p ≤ .01). As for the AMO in the main fire season (February–August), r = –0.331 (statistically significant at p ≤ .01). In settlements in Deliblatska peščara area, there were trends of the decreasing number of inhabitants, agricultural population, and agricultural households in the investigated period. These trends contribute to the reduction of fire risk. The r value between the dynamics of the number of fires and the population is .50 (statistically significant at p ≤ .01). The reduced agricultural activity contributes to the reduction of fire risk, while increased tourist presence is a risk factor.

    Abstract Land use largely depends on the traffic policy of a city. The appearance of e-scooters can greatly affect the visual distribution of transportation, and thus the occupation of land, primarily in the central areas of cities. E-scooters as a shared micro-mobility service have become widespread worldwide since 2017. The advent of e-scooters has made changes in travel habits, especially in the central parts of big cities. However, many issues are focused on e-scooter shared mobility management policies. One of the important issues is the price of renting an e-scooter, on which the percentage of users who use e-scooters largely depend. In order to determine willingness to pay for e-scooter dockless shared mobility, a survey was conducted in the city of Belgrade (Serbia, Europe) on the willingness of participants to use this mode of transport for commuting and other travel purposes depending on the price of renting an e-scooter. The results showed that price plays an important role in the willingness of participants to use an e-scooter. The paper presents mathematical models, which include the cost of renting an e-scooter and the percentage of participants who would accept this type of transport. These mathematical models can help a decision maker to determine the pricing policy in order to maximize the profit from renting an e-scooter, as well as to influence modal shift in order to reduce car-dependent trips.

    Abstract Background/Aim. Children with burns are submitted to multiple painful and anxiety-related procedures during the change of wound dressing, treatment, and rehabilitation. The objective of analgesic treatments for procedural pain is the safe and efficient management of pain and emotional stress, which requires a careful, balanced, and systematic approach. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of analgesic and/or local anesthetic in relieving the intensity of procedural pain. Methods. The study included 120 pediatric patients with second-degree burns who were allocated into four groups of 30 children (control group, groups I, II, and III). During the change of wound dressings, children in the control group did not receive any analgesics, while in the remaining three groups, 30 minutes prior to the change of wound dressing, oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (group I), local anesthetic (group II), or both medications (group III) were administered. Results. The average visual analog scale (VAS) score for assessing pain was statistically significantly higher in the control group on all tested days compared with children in the other three treated groups. On the first test day (24 hrs after sustaining the burn injuries), all children had high VAS scores, and ac-cording to the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis, the boundary value was 89.50/100. There was a remarkable difference in the VAS score between the groups on the fifth day of dressing change with the boundary value of 57.50/100 and on the seventh day when the boundary value was 43.50/100. Children who experienced the lowest intensity pain during dressing changes of burn wounds for all test days were those from the group who received both systemic analgesic and local anesthetic. Conclusion. The study confirmed the importance of introducing the complex polymodal protocol in treating procedural pain in second-degree burns. The protocol should include analgesics as well as anesthetics since they both contribute to achieving the ...

    Abstract The phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of wine and fermented pomace (FP) from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes harvested at three ripening stages were evaluated using LC-MS/MS and spectrophotometric analyses. An investigation of grey mold’s (Botrytis cinerea) influence on wine phenolic content modulation was conducted as well. Finally, the influence of the plant’s ripening stage on the dynamics of the phenolic compounds extracted from wine and FP obtained from fully ripe grapes was evaluated. In this study, the content of catechin, epicatechin, quercetin, and p-coumaric, gallic, and syringic acids was analyzed. Wine and FP were obtained after extended maceration during the spontaneous and inoculated fermentation of fully ripe grapes. When comparing the wine and FP obtained from véraison, fully ripe, and overripe grapes, catechin was the most abundant in wine (40.13 ± 3.25 mg/L) and quercetin in FP (10.96 ± 0.14 mg/kg). A decrease in analyzed phenolic compounds was noticed in wine produced from grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea, and the highest depletion was found for quercetin. The use of a winemaking technique that involved differing maceration periods and inoculation using yeasts as well as spontaneous fermentation significantly modulated the phenolic content of derived wines and FP. The dynamics of the phenolic compounds extracted into wine, evaluated using a principal component analysis (PCA), highlighted contents of catechin and epicatechin. After a decrease in maceration, the PCA revealed a notable content of gallic and syringic acids, as well as quercetin, in samples of FP. This study offers a perspective for future research and the development of functional food with a high content of phenolic compounds originating from red grape products, such as wine and fermented pomace.

    Abstract Pectus excavatum is the most common congenital anterior chest wall deformity, with an incidence of 1:400 to 1:1000. Surgical strategy has evolved with the revolutionary idea of Donald Nuss, who was a pioneer in the operative correction of this deformity using minimally invasive surgery. The aim of this paper is to compare the preliminary results of pectus excavatum repair in two University Centers with a moderate number of patients using the standard Nuss procedure and its modification, the extrapleural thoracoscopic approach. The statistical analysis showed no significant difference for the patient's age (14.52 ± 3.70 vs. 14.57 ± 1.86;

    Abstract During the process of medical information system development, resource awareness is neglected. It is often assumed that the underlying hardware will always have enough memory, processing power, and network bandwidth. Unfortunately, this approach seems not so feasible in every case, and these assumptions, if proven wrong, will harm the initial development run, a later system upgrade, and life cycle in general. This paper aims to raise a resource awareness problem that could still influence all information system deployment and maintenance steps. As an example, we described the influence of the general hardware and network limitations on the information system design, functionality update process, and external system integration. Our research results are a set of guidelines that should be applied to support resource awareness, as an important part of the system design.

    Abstract Three subtypes of achalasia have been defined using esophageal manometry. Several studies have reported that symptoms are experienced differently among men and women, regardless of subtype. All subtypes could have some impact on the appearance of respiratory symptoms and lung complications due to compression of the trachea or aspiration of undigested food. The aim of this research was to analyze the differences in respiratory symptoms and radiographic presentation of lung pathology depending on the diameter and achalasia types. One or more respiratory symptoms were reported in 48% of 114 patients, and all of them had two or more gastrointestinal symptoms. The symptom score (SS) is statistically significant for the prediction of subtype 1 (area under the curve = 0.318;

    Abstract Background: The research objective was to identify overstated emotional characteristics in armed conflict veterans as well as both the similarities and differences in personality profiles between patients suffering from acute and chronic forms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
    Subjects and methods: Our study's sample consisted of 60 participants in the armed conflict in Kosovo that lasted from 28 February, 1998 until 11 June, 1999. All of them were diagnosed with PTSD, during the six months period after their return from active duty. In 2014 we retested the same subjects to see their current psychological state. Diagnoses of PTSD were made using Structure Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID-I), while the assessment of emotional characteristics was made using Plutchik's emotion profile index (PIE).
    Results: We established no statistically significant difference in PIE profiles between both groups in recent re-testing. The only significant difference as per PIE classification was found earlier when the subjects were initially diagnosed. The amplified emotional dimension was exploration, and only the group of chronic PTSD patients displayed significantly higher values (p<0.05).
    Conclusion: Emotional profiles, as a whole, proved to be very similar amongst subjects with both acute and chronic form of the PTSD. The only noted difference is in the significantly higher values of exploration emotional dimension, but only at the time when they were first given initial diagnosis, and only in the group of subjects who later developed the chronic form of PTSD which can indicate that exploration is a factor of vulnerability which is important in chronicity.

    Abstract Stathmin1 is a microtubular regulatory protein. The expression disorders of this protein result in significant changes in cell migration, invasion, adhesion and colony formation in many malignant tumors. The aim of our research was to investigate the effects of Stathmin1 expression on neoangiogenesis in colorectal adenocarcinoma. Biopsy material that was obtained by the resection of colorectal carcinoma was used. The experimental group consisted of operative biopsies of colorectal cancer (n = 72), and the control group (n = 72) consisted of biopsies of adjacent non-tumor colon tissue. The biopsy material was taken from an operative preparation submitted to the Department of Pathology. After histopathological treatment, classical Hematoxylin- Eosin and immunohistochemical ABC methods with anti-Stathmin1, anti-VEGF and anti CD105 antibodies were applied on 4 µm thick sections. High expression of Stathmin1 is associated with severe (91.9%) and moderate (8.1%) expression of VEGF in a significantly high number of cases. This relation is defined by a highly significant correlation coefficient (r = 0.768; p = 0.000). High expression of Stathmin1 is associated with a high microvascular density index (mvdIDX) in a significant number of cases (73.0%) while low expression of Stathmin1 is in relation with low mvdIDX in a significant 73.7% of cases. This relationship is also defined by a highly significant correlation coefficient (r = 0.566; p = 0.000). ROC analysis showed that the sensitivity for Stathmin1 was 97.4% and the specificity was 91.4%. Based on Stathmin1 expression, it is possible to differentiate patients with increased risk for metastatic disease. The highly significant association of Stathmin1 expression with VEGF expression and microvascular density (MVD) suggests that Stathmin1 may be a serious candidate for therapeutic target.
