Abstract: ... restoration of the Bodhidharma statue from the Lingyan Temple, Changqinq, Shandong, several analytical methods ...

Abstract Abstract Scientific analysis revealed the materials and techniques used in the process of making polychrome sculptures providing a solid foundation for the protection and restoration of the painted statues. In addition, the analyses revealed changes in colour schemes applied to the sculptures can provide the basis for the virtual restoration of the painted statues. In order to carry out scientifically-informed protection and restoration of the Bodhidharma statue from the Lingyan Temple, Changqinq, Shandong, several analytical methods such as optical microscope (OM), Micro-Raman spectroscopy (μ-RS), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM–EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were employed. Analyses clearly reveal the information including the stratigraphic structure and the composition of pigment. The use of silver foils and golden yellow pyrophyllite mineral to replace gold foils were found in the gilding paint layer in the later repainting after the Song Dynasty. This work reports the coexistence of emerald green (Cu(C2H3O2)2·3Cu(AsO2)2) and the degradation product lavendulan (NaCaCu5(AsO4)4Cl·5H2O) in large areas of the paint stratigraphy and on the surface confirming that the degradation of emerald green is related to the thickness of the paint layer; in thinner paint layers emerald green is transformed in lavendulan, while thicker layers of contain both lavendulan and emerald green, suggesting an environmental source of chlorides.

Abstract The main objective of this paper is to study the impact of the Ambient Air Quality Standard (2012) on the green innovation of Chinese firms in polluting industries. The analysis features “leverage effect” of Porter Hypothesis imposed by environmental regulations and exploits exogenous variations caused by the promulgation of the new policy. Based on the exogenous variations, this paper uses the time varying PSM-DID method. The findings of this study suggest that the implementation of the new policy improves firms’ green innovation. Increments in R&D investment and environmental protection investment are channels through which the new standard positively affects firms’ green innovation. The cross-sectional heterogeneity analysis exhibits that the effect of this environmental regulation is stronger for firms with bigger size and lower financial constraints. The contribution and significance of this study are as follows: our study enriches understanding of the impact of environmental regulation on firms’ green innovation by empirically confirming the influencing channels of the impact of environmental regulations on green innovation. In addition, this paper contributes to the firms’ green innovation literature by empirically validating the role of corporate characteristics in moderating the effect of environmental regulations.

Abstract Exosomes are membrane-bound vesicles secreted by various cell types into the extracellular environment and contain kinds of bioactive molecules. These molecules can mediate various biological processes such as cell differentiation, proliferation, and survival, making them attractive for tissue regeneration and repair. Owing to their nanoscale size, bilayer membrane structure, and receptor-mediated transcytosis, exosomes can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and reach the central nervous system (CNS) tissue. Additionally, exosomes can be loaded with exogenous substances after isolation. It has been suggested that exosomes could be used as natural drug carriers to transport therapeutic agents across the BBB and have great potential for CNS disease therapy by promoting tissue regeneration and repair. Herein, we discuss perspectives on therapeutic strategies to treat neurodegenerative disease or spinal cord injury using a variety of cell types-derived exosomes with kinds of exosomal contents, as well as engineering strategies of specific functional and exosome administration routes.

Abstract Background: Airway epithelial cells play important roles in allergic asthma. Transient receptor potential melastatin-related 2 (TRPM2) and oxidized Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase Ⅱ (ox-CaMKⅡ) participate in the airway inflammation. This study aimed to analyze the effects of TRPM2 on ox-CaMKⅡ in the airway epithelial cells during allergic asthma. Methods: BEAS-2B cells were treated with different dose of IL-13 (0, 5, 10, 20 ng/mL) for 24 h to analyze the changes of TRPM2 and ox-CaMKⅡ protein. Cells expressing different level of TRPM2 were obtained by transfection of TRPM2 siRNA or TRPM2-short cDNA. The transfected cells were treated with 10 ng/mL of IL-13 to analyze the effects of TRPM2 on the ox-CaMKⅡ. A CaMKⅡ inhibitor KN-93 was used to confirm the effects of TRPM2 on levels of ox-CaMKⅡ, p-MEK and p-ERK in the IL-13-treated BEAS-2B cells. Wild-type (WT) mice and TRPM2-knockout (TRPM2−/−) mice were induced by ovalbumin (OVA) to compare the differences of inflammation, levels of ox-CaMKII, p-MEK and p-ERK in airways. Results: Cell viability was clearly decreased by the 20 ng/mL of IL-13. The levels of TRPM2 and ox-CaMKII protein in cells were increased with increasing doses of IL-13. Transfection of TRPM2 siRNA or TRPM2-short cDNA respectively decreased or increased the levels of ox-CaMKⅡ in the IL-13-stimulated cells. The results of KN-93 treatment were similar to the results of TRPM2 siRNA transfection, that the levels of ox-CaMKⅡ, p-MEK and p-ERK were significantly decreased in the IL-13-treated cells. Compared with the OVA-induced WT mice, levels of inflammation, ox-CaMKⅡ, p-MEK and p-ERK in the airways were significantly weakened in the OVA-induced TRPM2−/− mice. Conclusions: TRPM2 plays a vital role in regulating ox-CaMKⅡ in airway epithelial cells during allergic asthma.
