    Abstract In this paper, we assess the ability of various intrinsic molecular and atomic descriptors, grounded in the conceptual density functional theory and the quantum theory of atoms-in-molecules frameworks, to predict the electrophilicity of Michael acceptors, which are fundamental organic reagents involved in the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. To this aim, linear and multilinear regressions between these theoretical properties and the experimental values gathered in Mayr-Patz' scale were performed. The relevance of quantum chemical descriptors are then discussed.

    Abstract Mit dieser Festschrift würdigen Autoren und Herausgeber einen Anwalt, der in Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Justiz ebenso wie bei seinen Berufskollegen als führender Gesellschaftsrechtsanwalt anerkannt ist und das Aktien- und Konzernrecht wie kaum ein anderer Praktiker geprägt hat. Michael Hoffmann-Becking wurde am 8. Februar 1943 in Magdeburg geboren. Beide Eltern waren Ärzte und stammten aus Essen. Hierhin zog die Familie nach dem Krieg zunächst zurück, bevor sie nach Olpe im Sauerland wechselte. In Olpe verbrachte Michael Hoffmann-Becking den Großteil seiner Schulzeit und legte 1962 das Abitur ab. Es folgte das Jurastudium in Freiburg, München und Münster bis zum Referendarexamen im Jahre 1966. Die als überwiegend langweilig und fruchtlos empfundene Referendarausbildung nutzte er für eine Nebentätigkeit als wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft und als Doktorand bei Hans J. Wolff, dem Grandseigneur des deutschen Verwaltungsrechts in Münster. 1968 wurde er dort mit einer Dissertation über den Abwehranspruch gegen rechtswidrige hoheitliche Realakte zum Dr. jur. promoviert. Nach dem 1970 absolvierten Assessorexamen wandte Hoffmann-Becking sich zunächst weiter dem Verwaltungsrecht zu und ging als wissenschaftlicher Assistent zu Hans-Uwe Erichsen nach Bochum. Alsbald meldeten sich jedoch Zweifel, ob er nicht als reiner Wissenschaftler den Reiz der Praxis vermissen würde. So war es eine glückliche Fügung, dass er Anfang 1971 Hans Hengeler kennenlernte, einen der mit Carl Hans Barz, Max Kreifels, Wolfgang Schilling und wenigen anderen führenden Wirtschaftsanwälte der Nachkriegsjahrzehnte. Um Rat gefragt, empfahl Hans Hengeler ihm zunächst, an der Hochschule zu bleiben, um ihm dann aber nur wenige Tage später das Angebot zu machen, nach Düsseldorf zu kommen. 1971 trat Michael Hoffmann-Becking als anwaltlicher Mitarbeiter in die seinerzeitige Praxis Hengeler Kurth Wirtz in Düsseldorf ein, 1975 wurde er Partner der Sozietät. Dies ist er bis heute.

    Abstract A Michael equilibration model is presented to provide for site-selective pyrazole condensations between alkoxyacrylonitriles and hydrazines. Both pyrazole isomers were accessed with high selectivity by employment of kinetically or thermodynamically controlled conditions. Substrate scope and identification of Michael intermediates, as well as competitive pathways, support the presented mechanistic proposal. Sandmeyer derivatization provided site-selective access to fully substituted pyrazoles.

    Abstract This first-of-its-kind book offers clinicians a unique and comprehensive system of cognitive and behavioral testing that is tiered and context-appropriate for the diagnosis of mental status. Because the challenge nowadays with neurologic syndrome presentations is no longer merely lesion localization, but the degree, extent and nature of a cognitive and/or behavioral impairment, this work proposes a more targeted system of mentation evaluation -- one that incorporates behavioral, neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological components. Developed by synthesizing outcomes data from a range of stroke registries, this novel work offers a stepwise, hierarchical approach to mentation evaluation largely determined by level of consciousness and degree of cooperation. Organized across 14 chapters, the book begins with an introduction to the challenges of cognitive and behavioral assessment, as well as a discussion of various clinical presentations ranging from mild behavioral impairment to cognitive reserve and its implications. Subsequent chapters then address various approaches to mental status evaluation and explore how these tests affect brain physiology. The work closes with a unique discussion of the various lay populations that may benefit from cognitive and behavioral evaluation.
