Abstract We describe a case of 63-year-old woman, with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) who presented to us in the COVID era with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) on maximum medical therapy (MMT) in the right eye (OD), previously operated twice for trabeculectomy in (OD), and once in left eye (OS). A modified graft-free surgical technique of inserting the Ahmed Glaucoma valve (AGV) tube through a scleral sleeve was employed. Visual acuity and IOP remained stable during 6-month follow-up period.

Abstract This paper will attempt to read how history and space are informed and transformed by each other specifically in the prose narratives of the German writer, W. G. Sebald. In the course of reproducing history in a non-synoptic manner in these prose narratives, there are several ways in which space and history are connected with each other. This paper will explore these myriad relations and connections between space and history. Drawing from these links, the paper will go on to demonstrate how various incompatible elements of history and space are juxtaposed on one particular site creating a heterotopia. Sebald’s innovative fiction is exceptional in its narrative technique, employment of sources and incorporation of the multiple points of views of the narrators along with their interlocutors. The specific mode of narration Sebald employs, this paper contends, treats neither space nor history as foundational categories but instead tries to posit a historico-geographical framework within which many volatile moments of heterotopia develop. The paper begins with an analysis of how history and its constituent, memory, are related to space and spatial encounters. Having established the nexus between these two categories, it goes on to examine how Sebald’s narratives offer a critique of cartographic space and how identities are established through a politics of space. All these arguments culminate to demonstrate that these narratives are constituted by heterotopic moments due to the juxtapositions and multiplicities that arise from the historico-geographical scheme Sebald brings into play.

Abstract Abstract: Amyloidosis is a relatively rare condition with an array of complex pathophysiology. Localized amyloidosis is a rare and benign condition that practically never results in any clinical repercussions in the head and neck area. Multiple soft nodules of the tongue, lip, and cheek are the most commonly described defining characteristics of localized oral amyloidosis. These nodules originate due to the proliferation of abnormally folded protein aggregates in the body's extracellular tissue compartments, which destroy organ structure and function. Herein, we address the case of a female infant aged one with a smooth nodule in the labial mucosa who was diagnosed with primary localized amyloidosis. When a patient is diagnosed with amyloidosis of the oral mucosa, the possibility of systemic amyloidosis or an underlying plasma cell dyscrasia must be ruled out. Surgical treatment may be beneficial for eliminating any functional impairment if primary localized amyloidosis is established.

Abstract Objective: The present research deals with sequential optimization strategy based on Central Composite Design to optimize the process variables for efficient production of
Methods: Two substantial factors influencing the dependent variables viz UV-visible absorbance, particle size, zeta potential and polydispersity index (PDI) were identified as NaOH concentration, RH concentration, temperature as independent variables.
Results: The particles size (114 nm), PDI (0.45), and zeta potential (-29.5 mV) of optimized formulation were found, respectively.
Conclusions: The prepared CLT-AgNPs gel can be as a potential substitute in the management and treatment of acute and chronic wounds.

Abstract Introduction: Baseline expression of p16INK4a characterises cellular senescence. Similarly, the measurement of γ-GammaH2AX (γ-H2AX) foci levels in cells provides a reliable method for quantification of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) damage. Aim: To explore the role of p16INK4a and γ-H2AX as biomarkers of senescence in skin tissue. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Anatomy, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Punjab, India from June 2022 to January 2023. Skin tissue was obtained from 30 cadavers, aged 20-90 years, from the anterior abdominal wall. The time duration of sample collection after death varied from six hours to 12 hours. Samples were divided into two groups: Group-I <30 years and Group-II >70 years, with n=15 in each group. The relative change in the expression pattern of p16INK4a and γH2AX markers, as well as the microstructure of the skin (thickness of epidermis and dermis, distribution of collagen I/II/III fibres, architecture of sebaceous glands), were statistically analysed using an unpaired t-test. Results: Intense staining was observed with p16INK4a in Group-II, showing positivity in 60.75% of the cells, while Group-I depicted a weak staining pattern (15%). On immunostaining with γ-H2AX, only Group-II cells showed intense positivity (45%). Significant differences were observed in the epidermal and dermal thickness: Group-I (165.5267±37.73 μm; 2394.6±874.13 μm); Group-II (54.6±22.79 μm; 566.67±242.23 μm), and collagen Type-II/III fibres were found predominantly in aging skin tissue. Conclusion: The present study provides comprehensive data regarding age-associated changes between p16INK4a, γ-H2AX, and skin microstructure, which result in decreased repair and regenerative capacity of skin tissue and various age-related skin diseases.

Indian journal of community medicine : official publication of Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine

    2024  Volume 49, Issue 1, Page(s) 70–75

Abstract: ... to enhance protein rich diet. ...

Abstract Background: Food insecurity is a matter of public health concern as it is associated with adverse health outcomes particularly among vulnerable population. Accessibility and availability of nutritious and culturally appropriate food is paramount to achieve zero hunger. To assess the prevalence of household food insecurity, to estimate the household dietary diversity and its association with household food insecurity.
Material and methods: Using multistage sampling 381 rural households were surveyed. Household Food Insecurity Access Scale and House hold Dietary Diversity Scale were used as study instruments. Chi square test was used to compare the two groups and
Results: Prevalence of household insecurity was 33.3% (127) among the surveyed households and 8.1% (31) had severe food insecurity. The mean HFIS score was 6.85 ± 4.82. The household Dietary diversity score was 8.14 ± 1.54 for food secure and 6.51 ± 1.38 for severely food insecure households. There was a statistically significant difference in intake of milk and milk products, fruits, eggs and meat/poultry among food secure and insecure households (
Conclusion: Food insecurity was high in rural households and was associated with lower dietary intake of foods from protein group, necessitating a need to reinforce the food security programmes in rural India with focus to enhance protein rich diet.
