Abstract I. Moldovan (1923) demonstrated in the blood ultrafiltrate from anaphylactically prepared guinea pigs, which believed to anaphylactic shock, or which were previously injected with coloidal substances as India ink to stimulate the RES, an antianaphylactic principle named Reticulin-M(R). Authors extracted R from organs rich in RES with acetone, established their, peptidic nature and tested it on anaphylactic prepared guinea pig uterine horns in vitro. The peptides were fractioned by high voltage paper electrophoresis. The fractions were cut up in four groups, eluted and tested. The second basic group was identified as active and concentrated by acetone, recipitation. In conclusion several techniques were used to obtain, to test, to isolate and to concentrate R, a natural antianaphylactic peptidic factor, which may be a cytokine.

Abstract Background: Post infectious glomerulonephritis (PIGN) is the most common form of acute glomerulonephritis in children. The objective of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for kidney injury in children with PIGN referred to a tertiary care center.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. The primary outcome was acute kidney injury (AKI) at initial presentation; secondary outcome was composite kidney injury, defined as reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), proteinuria, or hypertension at last follow-up. Binary logistic regression defined risk factors associated with the primary and secondary outcomes.
Results: We identified 125 PIGN cases with a mean age of 8.3±3.5 years at presentation and 252 ± 501 days of follow-up. Sixty-six percent (79/119) presented with AKI and 57% (71/125) were admitted to hospital. Shorter time to seeing a nephrologist (OR 6.7, 95%CI 1.8-24.6), nadir C3 < 0.12 g/L (OR 10.2, 95%CI 1.9-53.7), starting an antihypertensive medication (OR 7.6, 95%CI 1.8-31.3), and nephrotic range proteinuria (OR 3.8, 95%CI 1.2-12.4) were independent risk factors for AKI when adjusted for each other. At last follow-up 35% (44/125) of the cohort had the composite outcome, with older age at presentation (OR 1.2, 95%CI 1.04-1.4) and nadir C3 < 0.17 g/L (OR 2.6, 95%CI 1.04-6.7) being independent risk factors when adjusted for AKI.
Conclusion: PIGN is an important cause of AKI in children and adolescents. The severity of initial illness is associated with the extent of kidney injury in both the short- and longer-term. Findings will help identify cases requiring lengthier surveillance. A higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available as Supplementary information.

Abstract The quantification of the single or combined variation of the process parameters specific to a thermochemical treatment is the key to a full factorial experiment and a first step in the development of computer-aided process engineering. Powdery solid media are frequently used in the practice of thermochemical treatments when the number of processed products is reduced, additional investments are not justified, or when there are no technological alternatives. The control of the process carried out in such powdery solid media involves both the control of the thermal and temporal parameters of the process on the layer growth kinetics and its phase composition, as well as the ratio of the powdery solid mixture mass percentage (active and neutral components, reaction activators, and components with the role of blocking the sintering tendency of the medium particles). In this paper, using the specific full factorial experiment (that is, a first-order complete factorial experiment (CFE)), the full model of the regression equation of the interactions between the specific process parameters of the silicide layer formation in a powdery solid media, applied to the low alloy P265GH steel grade and used in the petrochemical industry, were evaluated. Fe-ARMCO was chosen as the reference in the experimental research carried out.

Abstract MCrAlX powder compositions (M = Ni,Co and X = Y, Hf, Si or combination) are often thermally sprayed via vacuum plasma spray (VPS), low pressure plasma spray (LPPS) or high velocity oxy-fuel to produce high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion resistant bond coats for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). Cold spray technology is currently considered as a promising alternative to the traditional thermal spray solutions, having the advantage of delivering oxide-free and very dense metallic coatings at relatively lower costs compared to VPS and LPPS. NiCoCrAlY and NiCoCrAlYHfSi bond coats were deposited using a high pressure cold spray system and the influence of feedstock properties on the deposited bond coats were investigated. To improve NiCoCrAlYHfSi bond coat deposition, laser assisted cold spray (LACS) was employed. The results show that LACS can be successfully used to deposit this particular powder while eliminating nozzle erosion and low deposition efficiency disadvantages observed with conventional cold spray. To identify the optimal LACS setup for deposition of dense and uniform coatings, different laser/spray jet configurations were examined. TBCs with bond coats sprayed at the optimal configuration were assessed isothermally at 1150 °C in air for up to 500 h, and the results showed formation of a thermally grown oxide layer composed of predominantly Al

Abstract Introduction: Prognosis after electrical storm (ES) ablation remains severe, especially in patients with recurrent sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (SMVT) or progressive heart failure (HF). However, single-factor-based prediction is suboptimal and may be refined by more complex algorithms. We sought to evaluate if a novel score MSA-VT (M = moderate/severe mitral regurgitation, S = severe HF at admission, A = atrial fibrillation at admission, VT = inducible SMVT after ablation) may improve prediction of death and recurrences compared to single factors and previous scores (PAINESD, RIVA and I-VT).
Methods: A total of 101 consecutive ES ablation patients were retrospectively analyzed over a 32.8-month (IQR 10-68) interval. The MSA-VT score was calculated as the sum of the previously mentioned factors' coefficients based on hazard ratio values in Cox regression analysis. The AUC for death prediction by MSA-VT was 0.84 (
Conclusions: Prediction by single factors and previously published scores after ES ablation may be improved by the novel MSA-VT score; however, this requires further external validation in larger samples.

Abstract This paper addressed the issues of both direct and indirect synthesis of Ni aluminides by pack cementation (pure Ni and IN 718 superalloy). On the Al-Ni diffusion twosome under pressure, at temperatures below and above the Al melting temperature, the appearance and evolution of diffusion porosity because of the Kirkendall-Frenkel effect manifestation was highlighted. It has been confirmed that, as the temperature rises above the Al melting temperature, the porosity decreases. Nickel-based superalloys, and in particular IN 718, significantly increase their performance by increasing the aluminides proportion in the top diffusion coating. This is made possible by changing the value of the Al and Ni weight percentage ratio in this area (noted as Al/Ni). In the case of the diffusion twosome between IN 718 and pack aluminizing mixtures, having in their composition as active components Al powder, Ferroaluminum (FeAl40) or mixtures of Al and Fe powders, at processing temperatures above the Al melting temperature, by modifying the active component of the mixture, substantial changes in the Al/Ni values were observed, as well as in the maximum %Al in the diffusion coating and of its thickness. It was found that, when switching from Al to FeAl40 or powder mixture (Al + Fe), the Al/Ni value changes between 3.43 and 1.01, from initial subunit values. The experiments confirmed that the highest %Al in the top aluminized diffusion coating, for IN 718, was obtained if the powder mixture contained 66.34 wt.% Al.

Abstract A new Mg-Zn-Zr-Ca alloy in a powder state, intended to be used for custom shaped implants, was obtained via a mechanical alloying method from pure elemental powder. Further, the obtained powder alloy was processed by a PBF-LB/M (powder bed fusion with laser beam/of metal) procedure to obtain additive manufactured samples for small biodegradable implants. A series of microstructural, mechanical and corrosion analyses were performed. The SEM (scanning electron microscopy) analysis of the powder alloy revealed a good dimensional homogeneity, with a uniform colour, no agglutination and almost rounded particles, suitable for the powder bed fusion procedure. Further, the PBF-LB/M samples revealed a robust and unbreakable morphology, with a suitable porosity (that can reproduce that of cortical bone) and without an undesirable balling effect. The tested Young's modulus of the PBF-LB/M samples, which was 42 GPa, is close to that of cortical bone, 30 GPa. The corrosion tests that were performed in PBS (Phosphate-buffered saline) solution, with three different pH values, show that the corrosion parameters have a satisfactory evolution comparative to the commercial ZK 60 alloy.

Abstract During the COVID-19 pandemic there was substantial variation between countries in the severity of the travel restrictions implemented suggesting a need for better importation models. Data to evaluate the accuracy of importation models is available for the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL; September 2020 to June 2021) as arriving travelers were frequently tested for SARS-CoV-2 and travel-related cases were reported. Travel volume to NL was estimated from flight data, and travel declaration forms completed at entry to Canada, and at entry to NL during the pandemic. We found that during the pandemic travel to NL decreased by 82%, the percentage of travelers arriving from Qu&eacutebec decreased (from 14 to 4%), and from Alberta increased (from 7 to 17%). We derived and validated an epidemiological model predicting the number of travelers testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 after arrival in NL, but found that statistical models with less description of SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology, and with parameters fitted from the validation data more accurately predicted the daily number of travel-related cases reported in NL originating from Canada (R2 = 0.55, ΔAICc = 137). Our results highlight the importance of testing travelers and reporting travel-related cases as these data are needed for importation models to support public health decisions.

Abstract Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are designed to protect and transport sensitive payloads or active pharmaceutical ingredients as part of new therapeutic modalities. As a multi-component particle, a high degree of quality control is necessary to ensure raw materials are free of critical impurities that could adversely impact the drug product. In this study, we demonstrate a reversed phase liquid chromatography method hyphenated with a single quadrupole mass spectrometer (RPLC-MS) as an alternative platform to methods that incorporate evaporative light scattering or charged aerosol detectors in the detection and quantitation of critical impurities associated with LNPs. The proposed RPLC-MS method offers an increase of up to 2 orders of magnitude in dynamic range and 3 orders of magnitude in sensitivity in the analysis of impurities associated with LNPs compared to conventional detectors. Access to complementary mass data enabled the detection and identification of stability indicating impurities as part of stress studies carried out on an ionizable lipid. In addition to confirmation of peak identity, complementary mass data was also used to assess residual aldehydes in raw material and formulated LNPs in accordance with regulatory guidance. Following derivatization using 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, aldehyde content in the ionizable lipid raw material was determined to exceed the reporting threshold of 0.05% in 30% of the test cases. The experimental findings observed in this study demonstrate the utility of the proposed RPLC-MS method in the identification and monitoring of stability-indicating attributes associated with LNPs as part of current Good Manufacturing Practices for improved consumer safety in drug products.
