Abstract Gesture serves as a crucial means of communication between individuals and between humans and machines. In football matches, referees communicate judgment information through gestures. Due to the diversity and complexity of referees' gestures and interference factors, such as the players, spectators, and camera angles, automated football referee gesture recognition (FRGR) has become a challenging task. The existing methods based on visual sensors often cannot provide a satisfactory performance. To tackle FRGR problems, we develop a deep learning model based on YOLOv8s. Three improving and optimizing strategies are integrated to solve these problems. First, a Global Attention Mechanism (GAM) is employed to direct the model's attention to the hand gestures and minimize the background interference. Second, a P2 detection head structure is integrated into the YOLOv8s model to enhance the accuracy of detecting smaller objects at a distance. Third, a new loss function based on the Minimum Point Distance Intersection over Union (MPDIoU) is used to effectively utilize anchor boxes with the same shape, but different sizes. Finally, experiments are executed on a dataset of six hand gestures among 1,200 images. The proposed method was compared with seven different existing models and 10 different optimization models. The proposed method achieves a precision rate of 89.3%, a recall rate of 88.9%, a mAP@0.5 rate of 89.9%, and a mAP@0.5:0.95 rate of 77.3%. These rates are approximately 1.4%, 2.0%, 1.1%, and 5.4% better than those of the newest YOLOv8s, respectively. The proposed method has right prospect in automated gesture recognition for football matches.

Abstract Winter Rye (Secale cereale L.) is an important food stock that are found on most part of the world that are coastal areas, which are now open to threats as global warming causes multiple issues that includes soil salination and high-concentration nitrogen run-off. As of right now, it’s already clear that salt will place a growth stress on most plants in high concentrations and will prohibit critical organs for nutrient intake, yet a number of researches stated that high dose of nitrogen will restore the growth of most wild and commercial plants. We are interested to find out how the interaction between salt and nitrogen can interfere with the growth of winter rye. A standard comprehensive 2-variable greenhouse assay was set up, with different levels of salt and nitrogen. After a 3-week growth period, an ANOVA test was conducted. The plants performance was inhibited when they are exposed to the lowest salt concentration and medium to high levels of nitrogen. In high saline environments, however, the performance of the plant was improved as it’s exposed to medium and particularly, high nitrogen levels. The finding of this study would be useful in ways that few previous studies had focused on the effect of salt and nitrogen stress on the grown of food species in case of global warming and population growth, and the subject should be studied on more food species in future researches.

Abstract Dust pollution in open-pit coal mines severely restricts the green development of mines. Therefore, dust control has become an important requirement for the sustainable development of the mining industry. With the goal of dust pollution prevention and control in open-pit coal mines, this paper puts forward the concept of a non-disturbance area of an open-pit coal mine. It clarifies the characteristics of dust generation, the coverage area, and the dust particle size distribution characteristics of the non-disturbance area. Taking the dust control at the dump site as an example, the study comprehensively utilizes indoor tests and field tests to develop a dust suppressant for the dump site and determine its dust suppression efficiency and effective service cycle. The results show that the D10, D50, and D90 particle sizes of dust in the non-disturbance area are smaller than those in the disturbance area, and the difference in particle size of D90 is the most obvious. Gelatinized starch and non-ionic polyacrylamide, as the main components of the dust suppressant, can effectively reduce dust pollution in the dump; the optimal concentration is 1.0%, and the dust suppression service cycle is more than one month. The developed dust suppressant does not contain corrosive, toxic, or heavy metal elements. Although the application of a dust suppressant will cause plant growth to lag, it does not affect plant health. The research findings serve as a reference for the zoning treatment of dust in open-pit mines.

Abstract Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is an extremely rare type of soft tissue sarcoma. The primary sites of ASPS are mostly located in the extremities and trunk. Primary pulmonary ASPS is extremely rare. A search of the PubMed® database identified only five cases of primary pulmonary ASPS. This current case report describes the sixth case of ASPS in a 15-year-old male that presented with recurrent headaches. Head computed tomography showed space-occupying lesions in the left parietal lobe. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography confirmed the space-occupying lesions in the left parietal lobe and showed multiple nodules and masses in the two lungs and pleura, which were considered to be low-grade malignant mesenchymal tumours. The case report presents the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment process. Programmed cell death protein 1 monoclonal antibody (sintilimab) combined with a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (anlotinib hydrochloride) achieved a good therapeutic effect, indicating that this combination therapy is worth exploring further. Large-scale prospective studies are needed to explore and develop standardized treatments for ASPS.

Abstract To investigate the wettability of different oxygen-containing functional group (OFG) surfaces, graphite substrates were used as a model for coal adsorbents. The substrates were modified with COOH, OH, CO, and OCH3. The adsorption-diffusion behavior of H2O molecules/water droplets on different OFG surfaces was investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with frontier orbital energy difference as a metric for different surface wettability degrees in quantum chemical analysis. The results indicated that the frontier orbital energy difference of the H2O molecule was 3.480, 3.491, 3.631, and 3.680 eV for PhCOOH, PhOH, PhCO, and PhOCH3, respectively. In addition, the equilibrium contact angle, interaction energy, and number of hydrogen bonds after the adsorption equilibrium of water droplets for COOH, OH, CO, and OCH3 surfaces were 22.34°, −5.03 kcal/mol, and 652; –23.72°, −4.19 kcal/mol, and 450; 68.01°, −0.79 kcal/ mol, and 61; 90.51°, −0.50 kcal/mol, and 28, respectively. The smaller the energy difference between the frontier orbitals of the H2O molecule and the OFG, the smaller the equilibrium contact angle between the water droplet and the OFG surface, the more hydrogen bonds were formed, and the larger the absolute value of the interaction energy, the better the wettability of the surface of the OFG. The order of wettability of the different OFG surfaces was COOH > OH > CO > OCH3, which is consistent with the radial distribution function and the analysis results for the extended area, etc. The results of density functional theory (DFT) calculations and MD simulations exhibited identical patterns, indicating the reasonableness of the simulations. This study may serve as a reference for the suppression of hydrophilicity in low-order coal and the enhancement of the flotation effect.

Abstract Since the diffusion coefficient is a key parameter to characterize the diffusion rate of methane molecules, its measurement and solution have always been a research hotspot. The diffusion coefficient is normally solved through analytical solutions of theoretical models, which is complex and poorly applicable. In comparison, the numerical simulation optimization method can seek a solution easily and quickly, providing a clue for solving such problem. In this paper, first, gas desorption experiments were conducted on coal samples with different initial gas equilibrium pressures, coal particle sizes, and metamorphic degrees. Combined with existing theoretical models, the numerical simulation optimization method was adopted to solve the diffusion coefficient of the coal particle. Furthermore, the applicability and advantages of the numerical simulation optimization method were discussed. Finally, the variation law of the diffusion coefficients was analyzed. The results demonstrate that the numerical simulation optimization method can not only solve the diffusion coefficient easily and quickly but also reveal the law of diffusion concentration with time.
