Abstract Superoxide dismutase (SOD) protects plants from abiotic stress-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage. Here, the effects of cadmium (Cd) exposure on ROS accumulation and SOD isozymes, as well as the identification of significant SOD isozyme genes, were investigated under different Cd stress treatments to Zhe-Maidong (

Abstract Compositions and contents of sedimentary pigments were examined using high performance liquid chromatography in order to discuss the spatial distributions of phytoplankton primary production, phytoplankton functional type and the preservation efficiency of phytoplankton pigments and their influencing factors. The results showed that: chloropigments [Chlorins, including chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and pheopigments (Pheo-a), such as pheophytin-a (PHtin-a), pheophorbide-a (PHide-a), pPheophytin-a (pPHtin-a), sterol chlorin esters (SCEs) and carotenol chlorin esters (CCEs)] were the major type of sedimentary pigments. The nutrients inputs from Changjiang Diluted Water and upwelling in the Zhe-Min coastal mud area were the major cause for the patchy distribution with high sedimentary chloropigment contents. Carotenoid contents showed no trending changes and exhibited high values in the Changjiang Estuary and Zhe-Min Coasts. Based on the relative proportions of each diagnostic carotenoid to the total diagnostic carotenoids in the sediments, the relative contributions of diatoms, dinoflagellates, prymnesiophytes, prasinophytes, cryptophytes and cyanobacterias in the phytoplankton fuctional types were 48.8% +/- 17.4%, 10.7% +/- 11.5%, 8.1% +/- 7.2%, 18.6% +/- 8.2%, 9.4% +/- 6.4% and 4.3% +/- 3.2%, respectively. The preference for external environmental conditions (e.g., nutrient level and water salinity) was the main cause for the decreasing trends of diatoms and dinoflagellates proportions and the increasing trends of prasinophytes, cryptophytes and cyanobacterias seawards. Based on the spatial distribution of Chl-a/Pheo-a ratios, the higher preservation efficiencies of sedimentary pigments in the coastal regions (e.g., outer edge of maximum turbidity zone in the Changjiang Estuary, mouth of the Hangzhou Bay and upwelling region in the Zhe-Min Coast) were mainly due to the higher sedimentation rate and seasonal occurrences of hypoxia in bottom water, and these regions with higher sedimentary pigment preservation efficiencies were probably ideal areas for the marine eco-environmental evolutions. The bad sedimentary environment caused by the water exchange inside and outside of Hangzhou Bay was the dominant reason for the low sedimentary pigment contents and preservation efficiencies in this region.

Abstract Context: Da-Huang-Zhe-Chong pill (DHZCP), a classical traditional Chinese formula, consists of 12 crude drugs which have been widely used with significant therapeutic effects. Some drugs in this formula have toxicities that might result in some adverse effects of DHZCP.
Objective: The liver protection and toxicity of DHZCP were first evaluated against chronic carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced liver injury in rats.
Materials and methods: The rats were treated by intraperitoneal injection of 10% CCl(4) for 12 weeks. At the end of week 4, DHZCP at doses of 44 g/kg (high-dose group) and 22 g/kg (low-dose group) was intragastrically administered to CCl(4)-treated rats, once a day for four weeks. At the end of weeks 8 and 12, the general status of the rats, histopathology of liver, serum alanine aminotransaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransaminase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin (TBIL) levels were observed or determined and recorded. By correspondence analysis (CA) on biochemical markers and liver histopathological score (HS), the "dose-time-response" relationship of DHZCP on the hepatic injury rats was evaluated.
Results: The results showed that DHZCP exhibited a significant protective effect on liver injury by reversing the biochemical parameters and histopathological changes. However, this hepatoprotective effect may be weakened, or even be transferred to toxicity with the increase of the administration dose (44 g·kg(-1)·d(-1)) and time (more than 2 months) of this formula. These results were consistent with the histopathological observation and the serum levels.
Discussion and conclusion: Administration of proper dose and time of DHZCP could well play its hepatoprotective effect and even treat hepatitis, but the safety on liver should be considered when large-dose (44 g·kg(-1)·d(-1)) DHZCP is used for long time (more than 2 months). We suggest that the administration dose and time of DHZCP in clinical use should not be increased and prolonged, and simultaneously liver function should be regularly monitored.

Abstract Introduction: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of short video addiction on college students' sleep quality and to elucidate the mechanism underlying this relationship. Thus, we examined the correlation between short video addiction and sleep quality and analyzed the roles of physical activity and procrastination.
Methods: The Short Video Addiction Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Aitken Procrastination Inventory, and Physical Activity Rating Scale were administered to 337 college students. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0. Pearson's correlation analysis and mediation analysis using the bootstrapping test were performed for the standard method bias test.
Results: (1) Overall, 25.2% of college students had problems with sleep quality (indicated by a PSQI score ≥ 8). (2) Short video addiction score is positively correlated with college students' sleep quality score; procrastination score was positively associated with both short video addiction score and sleep quality score, and physical activity score was negatively associated with them. (3) Short video addiction significantly positive predicted sleep quality (β = 0.458,
