Title translation Associação do Nível de ST2 Solúvel com Mortalidade em 6 Meses e/ou Hospitalização Recorrente Relacionada a Doenças Cardiovasculares em Embolia Pulmonar.
Abstract Background: The association of soluble suppression of tumorigenesis-2 (sST2) levels with prognosis in pulmonary embolism (PE) is unknown.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sST2 levels in patients with acute PE and 6-month mortality and recurrent hospitalizations.
Methods: This prospective study included 100 patients with acute PE. Patients were classified into two groups according to 6-month mortality and the presence of recurrent Cardiovascular-Related hospitalizations. Two groups were compared. A p-value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Soluble ST2 levels were significantly higher in the group with mortality and recurrent hospitalizations. (138.6 ng/mL (56.7-236.8) vs. 38 ng/mL (26.3-75.4); p<0.001) The best cut-off threshold for sST2 levels in the prediction of a composite outcome of 6-month mortality and/or recurrent Cardiovascular-Related hospitalization was found to be >89.9 with a specificity of 90.6% and a sensitivity of 65.2%, according to the receiver operating characteristic curve (area under the curve = 0.798; 95% CI, 0.705-0.891; p <0.0001). After adjusting for confounding factors that were either statistically significant in the univariate analysis or for the variables correlated with the sST2 levels, sST2 level (OR = 1.019, 95% CI: 1.009-1.028, p 0.001) and C-reactive protein (CRP ) (OR = 1.010, 95% CI: 1.001-1.021, p = 0.046) continued to be significant predictors of 6-month mortality and/or recurrent Cardiovascular-Related hospitalization in the multiple logistic regression model via backward stepwise method.
Conclusion: Soluble ST2 level seems to be a biomarker to predict 6-month mortality and/or recurrent Cardiovascular-Related hospitalization in patients with acute PE.

Abstract Purpose: To investigate the effects of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) with different stimulation frequencies on static balance.
Materials and methods: Twenty patients (15 males and 5 females), aged between 43 and 81 (mean: 60.05±7.4) years, who had been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) and undergone STN-DBS surgery were included in the study. Static balance was assessed with TecnoBody Rehabilitation System at four different frequencies: 230, 130, 90 and 60Hz and off-stimulation. Static balance tests were 'stabilometric test, stabilometric compared bipedal closed/opened eye, stabilometric compared mono pedal (right/left foot)'. These tests reported the centre of pressure data 'ellipse area, perimeter, front/back and mediolateral standard deviations'.
Results: There were no statically differences between the static balance test results at any frequency (p>0.05), but results were found better at 90Hz. Stabilometric compared bipedal opened eye forward-backward standard deviation result was significant between off-stimulation and 130Hz (p=0.04). Different frequency stimulation affected the static balance categories percentage with no statistical significance between off-stimulation and others (all p>0.05).
Conclusion: This study showed that STN-DBS did not affect the static balance negatively. Low-frequency (LF) stimulation improved the static equilibrium. Posturography systems will give more precise and quantitative results in similar studies with wide frequency ranges.

Abstract Background/Aim: Gastric carcinoma (GC) is the fourth most common cancer worldwide and the second most common cause of cancer death. Primary prevention for GC includes healthy diet, eradication of Helicobacter pylori (HP), chemoprevention and early diagnosis. For this reason, finding out the HP incidence in patients with suspected antral gastritis in various age groups can lead to forming a treatment strategy to prevent development of GC. The aim of this study is to find out the HP incidence in patients with a proven antral gastritis diagnosis in various age groups and form different treatment strategies. Methods: This study included 1589 patients aged between 15-91 years who underwent diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy due to complaints of dyspepsia. The demographic characteristics, such as age and sex, and histopathological HP score (HPS) and IM score (IMS) were recorded. The patients were divided into three groups according to age: 15-29 years, 30-64 years, and 65 years and above. Results: In the 15–29-year age group, IM positivity was significantly lower and HP positivity was significantly higher compared to other age groups (P

Abstract Background/Aim: Helicobacter pylori (HP) is a gram-negative bacillus, with a prevalence of 50% throughout the world. HP infection is considered the strongest etiological factor for gastric cancer (GC). Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of HP can be considered as the primary prevention strategy for the development of GC. This study aimed to reveal the antimicrobial effect of commonly used local anesthetics (LAs) on HP. The literature review in English has revealed no study on this subject. Methods: This in vitro laboratory study was conducted in a University laboratory between 25 October 2019 and 1 November 2019. In the study, antimicrobial effect of 1 mL sterile saline, 20 mg/mL lidocaine, 1 mg/mL adrenaline, 10 mg/mL prilocaine, 50 mg/mL bupivacaine, and 20 mg+0.0125 mg/mL lidocaine plus adrenaline against H. pylori strain NCTC 11637 obtained from National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC) were tested in vitro. The groups were designated as follows: Group C (Control), Group B (Bupivacaine), Group L (Lidocaine), Group A (Adrenaline), Group P (Prilocaine), and Group LA (Lidocaine plus adrenaline). HP strain NCTC 11637 was cultured in Mueller Hinton agar (Oxoid, UK) supplemented with 5% sheep blood plates at 37°C under microaerophilic conditions (5% oxygen, 10% carbon dioxide, and 85% nitrogen gas combination) for 72 hours. Results: Antimicrobial activity was observed in Group L and Group LA. No antimicrobial action against HP was observed in other groups. The comparison of groups in terms of inhibition zone diameters showed that there was a statistically significant inhibiting effect in Group L and Group LA compared to Group C (P=0.002 and P

Abstract Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is introduced for the surgical treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tremor, dystonia, and tics. Electrostimulation of the ventral thalamus or subthalamic area has been found effective in different types of tremors that have different etiologies. Abernethy malformation is a rare congenital abnormality characterized by the presence of a congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt between the portal vein and systemic circulation. In this report, we present as a case of Abernethy malformation that caused hyperammonemia congenitally and presented as action and resting tremor in the hands and, treated with DBS.
