Abstract Objective: This study aims to conduct a survey of the oral health status of disabled individuals in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province. This study was also conducted to prepare caries prevention planning in the region.
Methods: On the basis of the Oral Health Surveys: Basic Methods of WHO and the Third National Oral Health Epidemiological Sample Survey Scheme, we investigated caries infecting disabled individuals who live in one big city (Xichang city), three counties (Bhutto county, Muli Tibetan autonomous county, and Huili county), and 46 towns and villages of Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province, by multi-stage stratified and cluster sampling.
Results: Among 3,439 disabled individuals, 2,085 were males and 1,354 were females; among these individuals, 815 live in the city and 2,624 live in rural areas. Furthermore, 2,177 were Han natives and 1,262 were Yi natives (ethnic). The caries prevalence rate and mean DMFT of disabled individuals in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province were 87.1% and 9.53, respectively. In Yi, the caries prevalence rate and mean DMFT of disabled individuals in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province were 85.8% and 9.93, respectively; in Han, the caries prevalence rate and mean DMFT of disabled individuals in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province were 87.9% and 9.29, respectively. No significant difference was found in the two groups of native (P > 0.05). A very low filling rate of 0.2% was also recorded.
Conclusion: Disabled individuals from Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province exhibited a high prevalence of caries in permanent teeth. The oral health status of this special group of disabled individuals should be provided intensive care.

Abstract The Yi Shen Juan Bi Pill (YSJB), a traditional Chinese compound herbal drug, has been used as an anti-rheumatic drug in clinical practice. Cartilage and bone destruction of inflamed joints is the hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Our previous study suggested that YSJB had a protective effect on joint damage in collagen-induced (CIA) rats. However, the role and the mechanism of YSJB in inflammation-induced bone loss are unavailable. The current study aimed to further evaluate the effect of YSJB on the joint destruction and the systemic bone loss, and to clarify the potential mechanism. CIA model was generated by using collagen II and incomplete Freund's adjuvant in Sprague-Dawley rats. After 4 weeks treatment, arthritic index, tissue pathology, micro-computed tomography scanning (μ-CT), and bone mineral density (BMD) analysis were performed. YSJB decreased arthritic scores and bone destruction; improved the BMD of lumbar vertebrae and bone volume fraction of inflamed joints. Moreover, YSJB significantly decreased the production of serum bone resorption markers, including Tartrate-Resistant Acid Phosphatase (TRACP), N-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen and C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen. Meanwhile, it increased the level of serum bone formation marker type I collagen N-terminal propeptide. These results revealed that YSJB ameliorated bone destruction and reduced bone loss induced by arthritis. We have previously showed that Tregs inhibited osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption

Abstract The type II pneumocytes of the lungs secrete a mixture of lipids and proteins that together acts as a surfactant. The material forms a thin film on the surface of the liquid layer that lines the alveolar air-sacks. When compressed by the decreasing alveolar surface area during exhalation, the films reduce surface tension to exceptionally low levels. Pulmonary surfactant is essential for preserving the integrity of the barrier between alveolar air and capillary blood during normal breathing. This manuscript focuses on the major biophysical processes by which endogenous pulmonary surfactant achieves its function, and the mechanisms involved in those processes. Vesicles of pulmonary surfactant adsorb rapidly from the alveolar liquid to form the interfacial film. Interfacial insertion, which requires the hydrophobic surfactant protein SP-B, proceeds by a process analogous to the fusion of two vesicles. When compressed, the adsorbed film desorbs slowly. Constituents remain at the surface at high interfacial concentrations that reduce surface tensions well below equilibrium levels. We review the models proposed to explain how pulmonary surfactant achieves both the rapid adsorption and slow desorption characteristic of a functional film.

Abstract Echocardiography is widely available in most cardiac centers, plays a key role in both the diagnosis and management of IE, is often the first-hand imaging modality, and should be performed immediately when mitral regurgitation is suspected. In addition, it is helpful during therapy and after surgery to assess valve morphology and function, complications, and heart function. In particular, transthoracic echocardiography is useful to detect new silent complications, monitor vegetation size, assess perivalvular abscess formation, pseudoaneurysm, intracardiac fistula and valvular perforation, as well as examine the embolic risk. In addition, echocardiographic outcomes differences among cardiovascular outcomes assessment of the MitraClip percutaneous therapy for heart failure patients with functional mitral regurgitation (COAPT) like and non COAPT-like patients have shown that non COAPT-like patients had higher left ventricular (LV) dimensions and overall contractility therefore, differences in clinical outcomes have been underestimated. Mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (MTEER) is an established therapeutic approach for mitral regurgitation (MR). Recurrence of MR after TEER with MitraClip is a concern due to increased patients' hospital readmission rate and increasing hospital costs. However, little is known about clinical, valvular, or ventricular parameters that may impact postinterventional course and recurrence of MR after TEER. While individual long-term echocardiographic outcomes of functional vs degenerative MR have been described, there is little data on follow-up echocardiographic outcomes comparing functional vs degenerative MR.
