Abstract Objectives: To analyze the effects of hope and self-efficacy on post-traumatic growth in survivors of childhood cancer in Korea and to identify factors affecting post-traumatic growth.
Sample & setting: Data of 117 survivors of childhood cancer aged 11 years or older either in treatment or follow-up recruited by convenience sampling at an advanced general hospital in Korea were analyzed.
Methods & variables: Using a self-reported structured questionnaire, data on hope, self-efficacy, and post-traumatic growth were analyzed using Pearson's correlation. Differences in post-traumatic growth according to general and disease-related characteristics (obtained from the survivors and their parents) were analyzed using t tests and analysis of variance. Factors affecting post-traumatic growth were investigated using multiple regression analysis.
Results: Post-traumatic growth showed significant positive correlations with hope and self-efficacy. Factors that significantly affected post-traumatic growth were presence of siblings, high economic status, and hope.
Implications for nursing: To improve post-traumatic growth in survivors of childhood cancer, interventions should be developed to enhance hope. In addition, more efforts are necessary in terms of interventions to improve post-traumatic growth in survivors of childhood cancer without siblings or with low economic status.

Abstract Aim: To examine the effects of spousal support and parent-nurse partnership on caregiver burden of parents of children with chronic disease.
Background: With the trend of increasing the global number of children with chronic diseases, the parental caregiver burden has become increasingly prevalent.
    Design: Cross-sectional study.
Methods: The study participants included 115 parents of children diagnosed with chronic disease at a general hospital in South Korea. The study duration was 4 June 2021-30 April 2022. Self-reported measures included the parent-nurse partnership scale, the Korean version of the Parenting Alliance Inventory and the family caregiver burden scale. T-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical linear multiple regression were conducted using IBM SPSS version 26.0. This study followed STROBE guideline.
Results: Parental caregiver burden was significantly negatively associated with spousal support and parent-nurse partnership. Factors significantly influencing caregiver burden were parental alcohol consumption; child's inherited metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, disease relating to haematological tumours or kidney disease diagnosis; child's health perceived as poor by parents; child's dependency perceived as high by parents; hospitalization recency; and low spousal support. These factors accounted for 65% of caregiver burden.
Conclusion: Parental caregiver burden was related to spousal support and parent-nurse partnership, but the primary factor affecting caregiver burden was spousal support.
Relevance to clinical practice: The results highlighted the role of healthcare professionals in educating parents of children with chronic diseases to facilitate spousal support and have implications for nursing and community-based interventions to reduce parental caregiver burden. Furthermore, they underlined that policymakers and other stakeholders should pay attention to the parental caregiver burden through government-based, family-centered strategies.
Patient or public contribution: Parents of children with chronic disease were recruited to perform the self-administered survey in the phase of data collection.

Abstract Purpose: The choice of temporary abdominal closure (TAC) method affects the prognosis of trauma patients. Previous studies on TAC are challenging to extrapolate due to data heterogeneity. We aimed to conduct a systematic review and comparison of various TAC techniques.
Methods: We accessed web-based databases for studies on the clinical outcomes of TAC techniques. Recognized techniques, including negative-pressure wound therapy with or without continuous fascial traction, skin tension, meshes, Bogota bags, and Wittman patches, were classified via a method of closure such as skin-only closure
Results: Among 1,065 identified studies, 37 papers comprising 2,582 trauma patients met the inclusion criteria. The vacuum closure group showed the lowest mortality (13%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 6%-19%) and a moderate DFC rate (74%; 95% CI, 67%-82%). The skin-only closure group showed the highest mortality (35%; 95% CI, 7%-63%) and the highest DFC rate (96%; 95% CI, 93%-99%). In the second group analysis, DT showed better outcomes than ST for all endpoints.
Conclusion: Vacuum closure was favorable in terms of in-hospital mortality, ventral hernia, and peritoneal abscess. Skin-only closure might be an alternative TAC method in carefully selected groups. DT may provide the best results; however, further studies are needed.

Abstract This pilot study aims to investigate the differences between varying lengths of bundles in structure and function by comparing the 100 most frequent three-, four-, and five-word bundles in a self-built corpus of dissertations which contains about 3.5 million words. The findings reveal considerable variances between bundles of different lengths in terms of both structure and function. In general, the variances between three-and four-word bundles are greater than those between four-and five-word bundles, and three-and five-word bundles. Structurally, three-and four-word bundles differ significantly in all six main categories. Four-and five-word bundles vary in five categories, while three-and five-word bundles are only different in four categories. Functionally, noticeable variances were observed in research-, text- and participant-oriented bundles between three-and four-word bundles, and three-and five-word bundles. However, four-and five-word bundles only differ significantly in text- and participant-oriented bundles. Interestingly, bundles of varying lengths also vary in patterns that are used to perform the same functions. The results of this study might inform researchers that they need to take bundle lengths into consideration when making generalizations of their findings or comparing bundles between various studies.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Oncofertility Barrier Scale (K-OBS).
Methods: This methodological study investigated the validity and reliability of the K-OBS for measuring barriers to oncofertility care among nurses. A total of 270 nurses who had experience in rendering nursing care to cancer survivors were recruited, and the instrument was translated, assessed for content validity, and tested using a preliminary survey. Construct validity was established through explanatory factor analysis. Convergent validity and discriminant validity were analyzed using a multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) matrix. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega.
Results: The K-OBS demonstrated satisfactory validity and reliability, with seven factors, including 27 items explaining 60.42% of the total variance, a Cronbach's alpha of 0.86, and a McDonald's omega of 0.83. The seven factors were labeled, "Lack of information and education" (8 items), "Rigid thinking toward oncofertility care" (5 items), "Cancer patient stereotypes" (4 items), "Insufficient support" (4 items), "Desire for fertility preservation" (2 items), "Interrupted oncofertility care" (2 items), and "Fertility risk" (2 items).
Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the K-OBS may be a suitable instrument with acceptable validity and reliability for evaluating barriers to oncofertility among Korean nurses. This instrument can be used to identify obstacles that make oncofertility care difficult, thereby contributing to new insights for improving the future quality of oncofertility care in Korea.

Abstract Purpose: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Middle-aged women, in particular, have been reported to have significantly increased cardiovascular disease rates after menopause; however, their adherence to health behaviors is lower than that of other populations. This study examined the factors associated with health behaviors for MetS prevention based on the Information-Motivation-Behavior skills model and described the relationships between the components of the model in middle-aged women.
Patients and methods: This investigative study used an online self-report questionnaire survey that included 241 middle-aged postmenopausal women aged 45-64 years. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS 28.0, independent
Results: After controlling for age, time since menopause, and comorbidities, knowledge of MetS, social support, self-efficacy, and attitudes explained 42% of the variance in health behaviors for MetS prevention (F=18.38, p<0.001). Among these variables, self-efficacy (β=0.33, p<0.001), attitudes toward health behaviors (β=0.26, p<0.001), and knowledge of MetS (β=0.13, p=0.005) had a significant impact on health behaviors for MetS prevention.
Conclusion: Significant associations were found between knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitudes toward health behaviors for MetS prevention among middle-aged women. The results of this study suggest that it is essential for healthcare provider to consider the components of the Information-Motivation-Behavior skills model when developing interventions aimed at improving health behaviors for MetS prevention among middle-aged postmenopausal women.

Abstract Background: Nursing education, including some elements of clinical practice, has largely been conducted online during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Numerous studies have examined the experiences of nursing students in academia during the pandemic. However, research on nursing students' clinical practice experiences is limited. This study aimed to analyze nursing students' clinical practice experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This study used a qualitative research design and performed thematic analysis. Participants comprised 13 nursing university students with clinical practice experience at a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interviews were conducted either online or face-to-face. Data were collected during June‒July 2021.
Results: Four themes and eight subthemes were generated through thematic analysis. Theme 1 was "Nursing students' anxiety and strict adherence to quarantine practices," with the subthemes of "Fear of infection" and "Protecting themselves." Theme 2 was "Nursing students' belief that their organization is protecting them," with the subthemes of "Strict quarantine rules at hospitals and universities" and "The nursing students regretted the limited scope of practice but felt safe." Theme 3 was "Learning through valuable practice," with the subthemes of "Recognizing the importance of practice" and "Realizing the benefits of practice." Theme 4 was "A sense of duty as a prospective nurse," with the subthemes of "Accepting a sense of duty as a nurse" and "Establishing the expanded role of a nurse."
Conclusions: The nursing students recognized the importance of nursing practice during the pandemic and worked harder. A better understanding of the experiences of nursing university students who completed their clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic can help nursing professors and managers more effectively train students during times of high stress.

Abstract This study evaluated the accuracy of newer formulas (Barrett Universal II, EVO 2.0, Kane, Hoffer QST, and PEARL-DGS) and the Haigis formula in Korean patients with the Alcon TFNT multifocal intraocular lens. In total, 3100 randomly selected eyes of 3100 patients were retrospectively reviewed. After constant optimization, the standard deviation (SD) of the prediction error was assessed for the entire group, and the root mean square error was compared for short and long axial length (AL) subgroup analysis. The Cooke-modified AL (CMAL) was experimentally applied to the Haigis formula. All the newer formulas performed well, but they did not significantly outperform the Haigis formula. In addition, all the newer formulas exhibited significant myopic outcomes (- 0.23 to - 0.29 diopters) in long eyes. Application of the CMAL to the Haigis formula with single constant optimization produced similar behavior and higher correlation with the newer formulas. The CMAL-applied triple-optimized Haigis formula yielded a substantially smaller SD, even superior to the Barrett and Hoffer QST formulas. The AL modification algorithms such as the CMAL used in newer formulas to cope with optical biometry's overestimation of the AL in long eyes seemed to overcompensate, particularly in the long eyes of the East Asian population.
