Abstract BackgroundReduced physical function and reduced social networks place older adults with hypertension at high risk for medication-related harm. Medication literacy is one of the preventable factors that affect the success of drug therapy for hypertension. However, little is known about the level of medication literacy and its influencing factors in older adults with hypertension.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of social support and medication literacy, and the association between them in older Chinese adult patients with hypertension.MethodsA total of 362 older adult patients with hypertension were investigated using a demographic characteristics questionnaire, the Chinese Medication Literacy Scale for Hypertensive Patients (C-MLSHP) and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Pearson correlation analysis, canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and hierarchical linear regression were used to analyse the relationship between social support and medication literacy.ResultsOur results showed that the mean scores for the C-MLSHP and the SSRS for older adult patients with hypertension were 23.89 (SD = 4.66) and 39.22 (SD = 5.53), respectively. The results of the Pearson correlation analysis suggested that the score for social support was positively correlated with the score for medication literacy (r = 0.431, P < 0.01). The results of CCA demonstrate that older adult patients with hypertension who had more subjective (rs = 0.682) and objective support (rs = 0.817) performed better in knowledge (rs = 0.633), skills (rs = 0.631) and behavior literacy (rs = 0.715). Hierarchical linear regression indicated that two dimensions of subjective support (B = 0.252, P < 0.001) and objective support (B = 0.690, P < 0.001) in social support were found to be independent predictors of medication literacy (R2 = 0.335, F = 19.745, P < 0.001).ConclusionSocial support is positively associated with medication literacy in older Chinese adult patients with hypertension. The study highlights the ...

Abstract Ion-sensing hydrogels exhibit electrical conductivity, softness, and mechanical and sensory properties akin to human tissue, rendering them an ideal material for mimicking human skin. In the realm of fabricating sensors for detecting human physiological activities, they present an ideal alternative to traditional rigid metal conductors. Nevertheless, achieving ionic hydrogels with outstanding tensile properties, toughness, ionic conductivity, and transport stability poses a significant challenge. This paper describes a simple method of forming a basic network by free radical polymerization of acrylamide, and then bacterial cellulose (BC) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([EMIM]Cl) were introduced into the basic network. The polyhydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions in the system gave the hydrogel notable tensile properties (3271 ± 37%), toughness (7.39 ± 0.13 MJ m

Abstract Depression is common in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), and is associated with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes. There is a paucity of data on this subject from the developing countries. The aim was to examine the prevalence and related factors of depressive symptoms among Chinese inpatients with CHF. A cross-sectional study was conducted. PHQ-9 questionnaire was used to assess depressive symptoms. The overall prevalence of depressive symptoms was 7.5%. Low BMI (OR = 4.837, CI = 1.278-18.301,

Abstract The self-management education for patients with hypertension has not been widely provided in rural areas of China. Our study aimed to examine the effect of health coaching intervention on controlling BP and improving self-management skills among rural resident of ≤6 month-history of hypertension. A total of 102 participants were enrolled in the RCT. The control group received usual health guidance and follow-up management; the experimental group received health coaching and follow up management. The primary outcomes were the difference in changes of BP and mean self-management scores. The secondary outcomes included waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), and medication literacy. Participants in the experimental group showed a significantly greater improvement with respect to systolic BP and diastolic BP respectively (133.85 ± 4.74 mmHg vs 127.96 ± 5.42 mmHg;80.94 ± 5.52 mmHg vs 77.37 ± 4.44 mmHg, P < 0.05) and BMI (24.66 ± 2.19 kg/m

Abstract Background: Conventional endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) has some inevitable flaws in the detection of pancreatic solid tumors, such as an incomplete histological structure of the obtained pancreatic biopsy tissues and blood coagulation. Heparin can prevent blood coagulation, thus improving the structural integrity of the specimen. However, whether the combination of EUS-FNA and wet heparin can improve the detection of pancreatic solid tumors needs to be further explored. Hence, this study aimed to compare the EUS-FNA combined with wet heparin and the conventional EUS-FNA, and analyze the detection value of EUS-FNA combined with wet heparin for pancreatic solid tumors.
Methods: The clinical data of 52 patients with pancreatic solid tumors who had received EUS-FNA at the Wuhan Fourth Hospital from August 2019 to April 2021 were selected. Patients were divided into a heparin group and a conventional wet-suction group using a randomized number table. The total length of biopsy tissue strips, total length of white tissue core in pancreatic biopsy lesions [according to macroscopic on-site evaluation (MOSE)], total length of white tissue core in each biopsy tissue, erythrocyte contamination in the paraffin sections, and postoperative complications were compared between the groups. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to reflect the detection value of EUS-FNA combined with wet heparin for pancreatic solid tumors.
Results: The heparin group had a longer total length of biopsy tissue strips (P<0.05) and total length of white tissue core (P<0.05) than the conventional group. There was a positive correlation between the total length of white tissue core and the total length of biopsy tissue strips in both groups (conventional wet-suction group: r=0.470, P<0.05; heparin group: r=0.433, P<0.05). The heparin group had milder erythrocyte contamination in the paraffin sections (P<0.05). The total length of white tissue core in the heparin group had the highest diagnostic performance, with a Youden index of 0.819 [area under the curve (AUC) =0.944].
Conclusions: Our research shows that wet-heparinized suction improves the quality of pancreatic solid tumor tissue biopsy obtained by 19G fine-needle aspiration and is a safe and efficient aspiration method in conjunction with MOSE for tissue biopsy.

Abstract As a human-computer interaction technology for the Internet of Things (IoT), non-contact humidity sensors have been widely explored. However, traditional humidity sensors have become a bottleneck in the development of flexible electronics owing to their complex processes and non-degradability. Here, bacterial cellulose (BC) and MWCNT were sequentially coated on paper to construct a durable and highly sensitive bacterial cellulose/MWCNT humidity sensor (BCNT). The BC endows the paper substrate with dense structure and significantly reduces the consumption of active materials (6.7 times reduction). Further, the well-dispersed CNT coating forms an interlocking structure with the BC nano-network, which results in a high mechanical strength (66.3 MPa). The maximum response of BCNT02 can be up to 94.5% (− ΔI/I₀) under 98% RH, and the response and recovery times were 150 and 297 s, respectively. Moreover, the high humidity sensitivity of the BCNT make it an excellent choice for research and development of humidity sensors for respiration detection, non-contact switching and humidity localization.
