Abstract AbstractAeschynanthus smaragdinus F.Wen & J.Q.Qin, a new species of Gesneriaceae from the monsoon rain forest in Mangbang township, Tengchong City, Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated here. It morphologically resembles A. chiritoides C.B.Clarke in size, shape and hairs on the leaf blades. But it can easily be distinguished from the latter by the green corolla limb with brownish-red to maroon lower lobes. At the same time, the hairs of the pedicel and calyx lobes, the length of the staminode and the size of the seed grain can also help distinguish both. It is provisionally assessed as Data Deficient (DD), according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, because field surveys for this new taxon have not been completed.

Abstract Qing-Wen-Jie-Re mixture (QWJR) has been used in the treatment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China. However, the protective mechanisms of QWJR on viral pneumonia remain unclear. In the present study, we first investigated the therapeutic effects of QWJR on a rat viral pneumonia model established by using polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly (I:C)). The results indicated that QWJR could relieve the destruction of alveolar-capillary barrier in viral pneumonia rats, as represented by the decreased wet/dry weight (W/D) ratio in lung, total cell count and total protein concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Besides, QWJR could also down-regulate the expression of inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6. More M1-type macrophage polarization was detected by calculating CD86

Abstract Polygoni Multiflori Radix (PMR) is a medicinal herb commonly used in China and Eastern Asia. Recently, the discovery of hepatotoxicity in PMR has received considerable attention from scientists. Processing is a traditional Chinese medicine technique used for the effective reduction of toxicity. One uncommon technique is the braising method-also known as 'Wen-Fa' in Chinese-which is used to prepare tonics or poisonous medications. Braised PMR (BPMR)-also known as 'Wen-He-Shou-Wu'-is one of the processed products of the braising method. However, the non-volatile components of BPMR have not been identified and examined in detail, and therefore, the hepatotoxic advantage of BPMR remains unknown. In this study, we compared the microscopic characteristics of different samples in powder form using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), investigated the non-volatile components, assessed the effects of different processed PMR products on the liver, and compared the differences between BPMR and PMR Praeparata recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020 edition). We found that the hepatotoxicity of BPMR was dramatically decreased, which may be related to an increase in polysaccharide content and a decrease in toxic substances. The present study provides an important foundation for future investigations of the processing mechanisms of BPMR.

Abstract Context: Wen-Shen-Tong-Luo-Zhi-Tong (WSTLZT) Decoction is a Chinese prescription with antiosteoporosis effects, especially in patients with abnormal lipid metabolism.
Objective: To explore the effect and mechanism of WSTLZT on osteoporosis (OP) through adipocyte-derived exosomes.
Materials and methods: Adipocyte-derived exosomes with or without WSTLZT treated were identified by transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and western blotting (WB). Co-culture experiments for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and exosomes were performed to examine the uptake and effect of exosome in osteogenesis and adipogenic differentiation of BMSC. MicroRNA profiles, luciferase and IP were used for exploring specific mechanisms of exosome on BMSC.
Results: ALP, Alizarin red and Oil red staining showed that WSTLZT-induced exosomes from adipocyte can regulate osteoblastic and adipogenic differentiation of BMSC. MicroRNA profiles observed that WSTLZT treatment resulted in 87 differentially expressed miRNAs (
Conclusions: WSTLZT can exert anti-OP effect through SPRY2 via the MAKP signalling by miR-122-5p carried by adipocyte-derived exosomes.

Abstract Background: Chinese herbal medicine is considered relatively safe, inexpensive, and easily accessible. Wen Dan Tang (WDT), a Jing Fang ancient classical Chinese herbal formula with a broad indication profile has been used for several centuries in China to treat various illnesses.
Question: Are there evidence-based clinical trials that show that WDT has a significant impact on the treatment of various diseases, especially in patients with migraine and tension-type headaches (TTH)?
Methods: This study is based on an online database search using PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library, AcuTrials, Embase, Semantic Scholar, Jstor, internet research, and review of ancient and modern Chinese medical textbooks regarding WDT and its compounds.
Results: There were no studies on WDT in migraine and TTH; therefore, this work gathers and describes data for every single compound in the formula.
Conclusion: This study suggests that the bioactive compounds found in WDT composition show potential in treating patients with neurological, psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, and digestive disorders. Some coherence between WDT in headache reduction and improvements in the quality of life in patients with migraines and TTH could be evaluated, showing positive results of WDT in these patients.

Abstract Introduction: Unstable angina pectoris (UAP) is the common type of coronary heart disease with the risk of developing into acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Currently, there are still numerous patients suffering from recurrent angina after revascularization or conventional medication due to the microvascular lesions, endothelial dysfunction, chronic inflammation, in-stent restenosis, and other factors. As an important part of China's medical and health care system, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has rich clinical experience in the treatment of UAP. According to the theory of TCM, Yang deficiency and blood stasis syndrome is a common type of UAP. Wen Xin decoction, as a type of Chinese herbal medicine, has been used in the clinic for years and shown great efficacy in the treatment of UAP with Yang deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Wen Xin granular in patients with UAP.
Methods and analysis: This is a double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. A total of 502 participants will be randomly allocated to the intervention group and the placebo group. Based on conventional medication, the intervention group will be treated with Wen Xin granular and the placebo group will be treated with Wen Xin granular placebo. The primary outcomes are major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Assessments will be performed 1 year after the treatment. The secondary outcomes include TCM symptom scale score, Seattle angina questionnaire, and thromboelastography. Assessments will be performed at baseline (before randomization) and 4 and 8 weeks after randomization.
Discussion: This trial will provide high-quality data on the benefits and risks of Wen Xin granular in patients with UAP.
    Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04661709 . Registered on 30 November 2020.

Abstract This paper focuses on the study of the dynamic hysteresis compensation and control of piezoelectric actuators so as to improve the swing accuracy of the piezoelectric fast steering mirror mechanism in the photoelectric compound-axis control system. Moreover, in view of the rate dependence and asymmetry of piezoelectric hysteresis, and the complex inversion process of the generalized Bouc-Wen hysteresis model, the Hammerstein dynamic inverse hysteresis model of the piezoelectric actuator is established. To be specific, the static nonlinearity and rate dependence of the piezoelectric inverse hysteresis are represented by the generalized Bouc-Wen inverse model and the auto-regressive exogenous model, respectively, and the parameters of the model are identified by the adaptive beetle swarm optimization algorithm. In the process of the open-loop feedforward compensation, the dynamic positioning accuracy of the piezoelectric actuator is greatly affected by various disturbances and the uncertainty of the hysteresis compensation model. In this context, a compound control strategy that combines the feedforward compensation with the single-neuron adaptive proportion-integration-differentiation control is proposed based on the Hammerstein dynamic inverse hysteresis model of the piezoelectric actuator. The experimental results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control strategy.

Abstract: ... diseases. Wen-Luo-Tong (WLT) is a TCM ointment for topical application. It has been applied for prevention ...

Abstract Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a serious dose-limiting toxicity of many anti-neoplastic agents, especially paclitaxel, and oxaliplatin. Up to 62% of patients receiving paclitaxel regimens turn out to develop CIPN. Unfortunately, there are so few agents proved effective for prevention or management of CIPN. The reason for the current situation is that the mechanisms of CIPN are still not explicit. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has unique advantages for dealing with complex diseases. Wen-Luo-Tong (WLT) is a TCM ointment for topical application. It has been applied for prevention and management of CIPN clinically for more than 10 years. Previous animal experiments and clinical studies had manifested the availability of WLT. However, due to the unclear mechanisms of WLT, further transformation has been restricted. To investigate the therapeutic mechanisms of WLT, a metabolomic method on the basis of UPLC- MS was developed in this study. Multivariate analysis techniques, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminate analysis (PLS-DA), were applied to observe the disturbance in the metabolic state of the paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN) rat model, as well as the recovering tendency of WLT treatment. A total of 19 significant variations associated with PIPN were identified as biomarkers. Results of pathway analysis indicated that the metabolic disturbance of pathways of linoleic acid (LA) metabolism and glycerophospholipid metabolism. WLT attenuated mechanical allodynia and rebalanced the metabolic disturbances of PIPN by primarily regulating LA and glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway. Further molecular docking analysis showed some ingredients of WLT, such as hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), icariin, epimedin B and 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA), had high affinity to plenty of proteins within these two pathways.
