Abstract As advances are made toward the industrial feasibility of mass-producing biofuels and commodity chemicals with sugar-fermenting microbes, high feedstock costs continue to inhibit commercial application. Hydrolyzed lignocellulosic biomass represents an ideal feedstock for these purposes as it is cheap and prevalent. However, many microbes, including

Abstract We investigated genetic counseling and testing rates for patients with gynecologic malignancy at a tertiary care center with a large minority population. Our retrospective cohort included newly diagnosed epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, peritoneal, or endometrial cancer patients between January 2014 and June 2022. For endometrial cancer, 373 patients were identified. A total of 207 (55%) patients were screened using mismatch repair immunohistochemistry (MMR IHC). A total of 82 (40%) had MMR deficiencies on IHC. Of these, 63 (77%) received genetic counseling. A total of 62 (98%) underwent genetic testing, and ultimately, 7 (11%) were diagnosed with Lynch syndrome (LS). The overall rate of LS was 1.9%. MMR IHC testing increased steadily, reaching 100% in 2022. For ovarian cancer, 144 patients were identified. A total of 104 (72%) patients received genetic counseling, and 99 (95%) underwent genetic testing. Rates were not influenced by race, ethnicity, insurance type, or family history of cancer. They were significantly different by cancer stage (

Title translation Loss of sight in the postpartum period.
Abstract Background: Vision problems in case of pre-eclampsia or Hemolysis, Elevated Liver, Low Platelets syndrome (HELLP) occur in 25-40% of the cases. Ablatio retinae as a complication occurs in only 0,1-2%.
Case description: This article describes the case of a healthy 31-year-old woman who gave birth to her first child. A few hours after delivery she experienced vision loss. HELLP was diagnosed. Because of persistent vision loss combined with headache, the ophthalmologist and neurologist were consulted. A bilateral ablatio retinae as a complication of HELLP was diagnosed. Headache was most likely due to the side effect of nifedipine tablets, tension headache or a symptom of HELLP. Vision loss recovered spontaneously within a few weeks.
Conclusion: Ablatio retinae due to preeclampsia or HELLP is very rare. For all concerned health care providers it is essential to pay attention to vision loss being the first symptom of possible acute underlying diagnosis postpartum.

Abstract Background: In September 2021, a military camp in the United States was identified for an initial relocation of over 6,600 Afghanistan refugees. This case report describes a novel use of existing health information exchange to expedite and provide health care for a large refugee population throughout the state during the duration of their entry into the United States.
Methods: Medical teams of the health systems and military camp partnered to provide a scalable, reliable mechanism for clinical data exchange leveraging an existing regional health information exchange. Exchanges were evaluated for clinical type, originating source, and closed loop communication with the refugee camp and personnel military camp.
Results: Approximately 50% of the camp residents were under the age of 18 years. Over 20 weeks, approximately 4.51% of the refugee camp residents were cared for in participating health systems. A total of 2,699 clinical data messages were exchanged, 62% of which were clinical documents.
Conclusion: All health systems participating in care were offered support to utilize the tool and process set up using the regional health information exchange. The process and guiding principles may be applied to other refugee health care efforts to provide efficient, scalable, and reliable means of clinical data exchange to health care providers in similar situations.
