Abstract This study investigates the bidirectional associations between gender egalitarianism and prosocial behavior in adolescents, and the moderating effect of gender in the associations, as well as gender differences and longitudinal changes in both. We recruited 543 Chinese adolescents (284 girls, 259 boys; mean age at Time 1 = 11.27 years) and collected three waves of data measuring gender egalitarianism and prosocial behavior at one-year intervals. According to the results, girls expressed greater gender egalitarianism than boys did; girls reported more prosocial behavior than boys in the sixth grade, but there were no significant gender differences in the seventh and eighth grades. Adolescents' gender egalitarianism stayed stable from the sixth to the seventh grade then increased from the seventh to the eighth grade, and there was a decrease in prosocial behavior from the sixth to the seventh grade. More importantly, the results of the multi-group cross-lagged panel model revealed that adolescents' gender egalitarianism in the previous year positively predicted prosocial behavior in the next year, and vice versa; such bidirectional associations equally applied to boys and girls. These findings add to the knowledge of adolescent gender egalitarianism and prosocial behavior, and the dynamic interplay between the two.

Abstract Problem lottery gambling among lottery consumers has increased globally over the years, rendering it necessary to explore their financial literacy characteristics and to answer whether financial literacy inhibits problem lottery gambling. In the present research, a total of 316 Chinese lottery consumers, who constitute the culturally underrepresented samples in the extant literature, completed a survey about financial literacy and problem lottery gambling. Using the propensity score matching method, we compared financial literacy between Chinese lottery consumers and Chinese general population (N = 10,058). The results showed that the five facets of financial literacy (i.e., financial knowledge, financial capacity, financial management values, financial ethics, and wealth values) among Chinese lottery consumers were significantly lower than Chinese general population. Among Chinese lottery consumers, their Homo sociologicus index (including financial ethics and wealth values) negatively predicted problem lottery gambling, but the Homo economicus index (including financial knowledge, financial capacity, and financial management values) was not significantly associated with problem lottery gambling. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings were discussed.

Abstract Previous literature has shown that adults with higher belief in a just world (BJW) experience greater meaning in life than those with less pronounced BJW. However, the role of BJW in adolescent meaning in life and the associated psychological mechanisms remain unclear. Thus, two studies were conducted to explore the roles of personal belief in a just world (PBJW) and general belief in a just world (GBJW) in meaning in life as well as the explanatory role of basic psychological need satisfaction among Chinese adolescents. Study 1 offered cross-sectional evidence that individuals higher in PBJW and GBJW displayed greater meaning in life, and basic psychological need satisfaction accounted for these associations. Study 2 provided longitudinal evidence that individuals higher in PBJW and GBJW at Time 1 exhibited greater meaning in life six months later (Time 2), wherein basic psychological need satisfaction at Time 1 served as a mediator. These findings contribute to understanding the adaptive benefits of PBJW and GBJW in meaning in life during adolescence and point to a crucial channel connecting BJW and meaning in life.

Abstract Background: The crucial role of mitophagy in tumor progression has been recognized. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between pituitary adenoma invasiveness and the mitophagy processes.
Methods: In this study, we used transcriptomics of postoperative tissue from 32 patients and quantitative proteomics of 19 patients to screen for mitophagy-related invasion genes in pituitary adenomas. The invasive predictive value of target genes was analyzed by Lasso regression model, CytoHubba plugin and expression validation. Co-expression correlation analysis was used to identify paired proteins for target genes, and a predictive model for pituitary adenoma invasiveness was constructed by target genes and paired proteins and assessed using ROC analysis, calibration curves and DCA. GO function, pathway (GSEA or GSVA) and immune cell analysis (ssGSEA or CIBERSORT) were further utilized to explore the action mechanism of target gene. Finally, immunohistochemistry and cell function experiments were used to detect the differential expression and key roles of the target genes in pituitary adenomas.
Results: Finally, Heat shock protein family D member 1 (HSPD1) was identified as a target gene. The quality of a predictive model for pituitary adenoma invasiveness consisting of HSPD1 and its paired protein expression profiles was satisfactory. Moreover, the expression of HSPD1 was significantly lower in invasive pituitary adenomas than in non-invasive pituitary adenomas. Downregulation of HSPD1 may be significantly related to invasion process, mitochondria-related pathway and immune cell regulation in pituitary adenomas.
Conclusion: The downregulation of HSPD1 may serve as a predictive indicator for identifying invasive pituitary adenomas.

Abstract Background: Thalassemia is an inherited hemolytic disease, the complications and sequelae of which have posed a huge impact on both patients and society. But limited studies have investigated the molecular characterization of α- and β-thalassemia in children from Guizhou, China.
Methods: Between January 2019 and December 2022, a total of 3301 children, aged 6 months to 18 years, suspected of having thalassemia underwent molecular analysis.
Results: Out of the total sample, 824 (25%) children were found to carry thalassemia mutations. The carrier rates of α-thalassemia, β-thalassemia, and α + β-thalassemia were determined as 8.1%, 15.6%, and 1.3%, respectively. Approximately 96.5% of the α-thalassemia gene mutations were --SEA (51%), αα
Conclusions: Our study findings provide important insights into the heterogeneity of thalassemia carrier rates and molecular profiles among children in the Guizhou region. The findings support the development of prevention strategies to reduce the incidence of severe thalassemia in the future.

Abstract Prior measures on rationality overlook the individual differences in the weight people place on social rationality versus individual rationality. The current research develops and validates an individual-collective dilemma task (ICDT) to distinguish different rationality types. It was translated from a reality that, at the beginning of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, a global shortage of face masks occurred because of the jumping demand for masks as a precautionary measure. The ICDT asked participants to decide how many masks to buy in front of a shortfall of masks, which facilitated coping with a hypothetical epidemic outbreak. Based on the number of masks they selected, three rationality groups emerged.

Abstract Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion causes exacerbated neuronal damage involving excessive neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. ROS is considered a signal molecule to activate NLRP3; thus, the ROS/NLRP3/pyroptosis axis plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI). Therefore, targeting the inhibition of the ROS/NLRP3/pyroptosis axis may be a promising therapeutic tactic for CIRI.

Abstract: TET2 is a member of the TET protein family which is responsible for active DNA demethylation through catalyzing the successive oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5fC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC), ... ...

Abstract TET2 is a member of the TET protein family which is responsible for active DNA demethylation through catalyzing the successive oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5fC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC), and mutations of Tet2 frequently lead to hematological malignancies. However, the relationship between Tet2-mediated demethylation and hematological malignancies is unclear. The human leukemia K562 cell line is an immortalized leukemia line that serves as an in vitro model of erythroleukemia. In this study, we investigated the effect of Tet2-mediated demethylation on the apoptosis and proliferation of human leukemia K562 cells and found that knockdown of Tet2 promoted and inhibited K562 cell proliferation and apoptosis, respectively, while upregulation of TET2 enzymatic activity via alpha-ketoglutaric acid (α-KG) had the opposite effects. Therefore, the Tet2 gene acts as a potential target for the treatment of leukemia, and small molecules that target the Tet2 gene may be used to screen antitumor drugs for hematological malignancies.

Abstract Filtering facepiece respirators have been widely used in the fields of occupational health and public hygiene, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, disposable respirators have been in high demand, and the waste generated from these disposable products poses a problem for the environment. Here, we aimed to test a practical decontamination method to allow for the reuse of KN95 respirators. In this study, three types of KN95 respirators were heated at 80 °C and 90 °C for different durations (15 min, 30 min, 45 min, 1 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 6 h, 8 h, 10 h, and 24 h). The filtration efficiencies of the tested KN95 respirators before and after heating were measured, and the changes in microstructure were imaged with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, a neural network model based on the nonlinear autoregressive with external input (NARX) to predict the filtration efficiency of the KN95 respirator was established. The results show that the temperature and time of dry heating affected particle prevention. The higher the temperature and the longer the heating time, the more obvious the decline in the filtration efficiency of the respirators. When the heating temperature reached 100 °C, the respirator may be no longer suitable for reuse. These results show that a dry heat temperature between 70 °C and 90 °C, and a heating time between 30 min and 2 h is assumed to be a suitable and effective decontamination method for respirators.
