Abstract Bronchopleural fistula is a potentially fatal disease most often caused after pneumonectomy. Concomitant problems such as pulmonary infection and respiratory failure are typically the main contributors to patient mortality because of the improper contact between the bronchial and pleural cavity. Therefore, bronchopleural fistulas need immediate treatment, which requires the accurate location and timely closure of the fistula. Currently, bronchoscopic interventions, because of their flexibility and versatility, are reliable alternative therapies in patients for whom surgical intervention is unsuitable. Possible interventions include bronchoscopic placement of blocking agents, atrial septal defect (ASD)/ventricular septal defect (VSD) occluders, airway stents, endobronchial valves (EBVs) and endobronchial Watanabe spigots (EWSs). Recent developments in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation technology and three-dimensional (3D) printed stents have also contributed to the treatment of bronchopleural fistula, but more research is needed to investigate the long-term benefits. This review focuses on the effectiveness of various bronchoscopic measures for the treatment of bronchopleural fistula and the directions for future development.

Abstract The changes of soil moisture, salinity, and nutrients by halophyte colonization in high-salinity environment profoundly affect the assembly and structure of microbial communities. However, salt marshes in arid region have received little attention. This study was conducted in Lianhuachi Lake, a typical inland salt marsh wetland in China, to determine the physicochemical characteristics of salt crusts in [Kalidium cuspidatum (Ung.-Sternb.) Grub.] colonization areas and bulk soil, respectively, and to analyze the microbial community structure of salt crusts by high-throughput sequencing. Kalidium cuspidatum colonization significantly decreased total salinity, soil water content, and water-soluble ions of salt crusts and increased total carbon, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus content. At the same time, changes in physicochemical properties caused by Kalidium cuspidatum colonization affect the ecological processes of bacterial, fungal, and archaeal community assemblies in salt crusts. In addition, cross-kingdom network analysis showed that Kalidium cuspidatum colonization increased the complexity and stability of microbial networks in salt crust soils. Functional projections further showed that bacterial diversity had a potential driving effect on the nitrogen cycle function of salt crust. Our study further demonstrated the different ecological strategies of microorganisms for halophyte colonization in extreme environments and contributed to the understanding of restoration and management of salt marsh wetlands in arid region.

Abstract As carriers of direct contact between plants and the atmospheric environment, the microbiomes of phyllosphere microorganisms are increasingly recognized as an important area of study. Salt secretion triggered by salt-secreting halophytes elicits changes in the community structure and functions of phyllosphere microorganisms, and often provides positive feedback to the individual plant/community environment. In this study, the contents of Na

Abstract Spatiotemporal correlation function is the basic characteristic of dynamic laser speckle and the basis of various applications. The correlation function of the speckle intensity from a 3D target in turbulent atmosphere is derived based on the model of random phase screen and Fresnel Kirchhoff Diffraction Formula, and a fast algorithm based on FFT is developed. The particularity of dynamic speckle in turbulence is numerically analyzed and discussed. The results show that the speckle intensity fluctuates at two independent scales both in space and time domain, which are affected by target size and atmospheric turbulence respectively. In particular, the time scale caused by turbulence is also affected by the target translating velocity and the wind direction. The theory and algorithm developed in this paper can play important roles in applications of laser speckle such as remote detection in atmospheric environment.

Abstract Background: Observational studies have indicated the association of alteration of adipokines with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, it remains unclear whether the associations are causal.
Objective: To determine the causal associations between adipokines and AD.
Methods: A Mendelian randomization (MR) method was applied to investigate the causal relationships of adipokines, including adiponectin and resistin, with risk of AD. Genetic proxies from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of adiponectin and resistin were selected as instrumental variables. GWAS summary statistics for AD were extracted as outcome.
Results: In this study, we found evidence of the causal effects of adiponectin on AD (OR: 0.850, 95% CI: 0.731-0.990,
Conclusions: This study provides evidence of causality between adiponectin and risk of AD. However, no genetic susceptibility of resistin was discovered for AD.

Abstract Immunomagnetic beads provide novel tools for high-throughput immunoassay techniques. In this study, protein G (PG) was immobilized onto bacterial magentic particles (BMPs) using an additional cysteine residue at the C-terminus. A broad-spectrum monoclonal antibody against glucocorticoids (GCs) was attached to BMPs through PG-Fc interaction, generating BMP-PG-mIgG immunomagentic beads. A sensitive one-step immunoassay was developed for GCs based on combination of BMP-PG-mIgG and dexamethasone-horseradish peroxidase tracer (DMS-HRP). The developed assay exhibited half inhibitory concentrations (IC
